"All right," Darius remarked a bit nervously. If he had his way, he would not have gotten involved in this mess, but at the way Rosalina was looking at him, he would have done anything for her. "Let me go out and try and find a couple of herbs that I think may work, but I cannot make any promises," he added softly.

As the moments passed Calista's gasping only grew worse and she began to grow light-headed as she found it harder and harder to breathe.

Gasping for breath, Calista's lips and fingertips started to turn blue as she struggled to breathe. "Ro..." she gasped but could speak no more as her harsh rasping echoed around the room.

Quickly leaving the home once again, Darius went on the search for the herbs.

Giving Rosalina a weak smile, although some might think it a grimace, Calista opened her mouth to speak, but found that no words would come as the muscles in her throat and neck tightened. A few seconds later Calista's blue eyes began to roll and her lashes flickered rapidly, indicating that she was about to faint from lack of air.

Calista was dimly aware of Rosalina crying out her name but the sound of her voice seemed to come from a distance. A strange gurgling suddenly emitted from her throat as her blue eyes rolled back and her lashes fluttered close as she fainted away; her body becoming limp on the bed.

Calista did not stir as Rosalina desperately tried to wake her and harsh gasps continued to come from her throat as she struggled to breathe.

Finally finding several herbs, Darius gathered a few before making his way back to his house, hoping that he grabbed the right herb and would not poison her further.

Rushing back into the guest room, Darius felt his heart sink as he saw Rosalina panicking over the limp form of her sister. As he neared the women, Darius could see the blue tint darkening on Calista’s lips and fingertips and knew in his heart that the woman was slowly being strangled to death by an invisible killer. Not sure which was berry was the proper one to alleviate her asthma, Darius stared at the herbs for a minute as he decided which herb to try.

Calista did not respond as Rosalina screamed out her name. It was as if the darkness was taking over her, ready to snuff out her life in a minute.

Picking up one of the herbs, Darius walked over to Calista and tilting her head back, he squeezed some of the juice down her throat. The woman coughed for a moment in response to the liquid sliding down her throat but immediately started to convulse a few minutes later as she fell into the throes of a seizure.

Wincing at what just happened, Darius was almost afraid of trying any more herbs on her---afraid that this seizure was a reaction to the herb and that he would only end up killing her in this trial and error method.

Meanwhile, Calista continued to shake and twist violently on the bed, the harsh grating sounds coming from her throat never ceasing.
