Kris forced as big of a smile as she could (which wasn't much) for Emmy...."Better," she lied, "My side doesn't hurt as much," she said, trying to hide her pain. She didn't want them to know how much it hurt....she had to be brave, for the sake of her siblings....

Kris could feel Laura slowly stroking her hair. She slowly started to drift off into a half-sleep....she wasnt really awake, yet she wasnt really asleep, either. She let her thoughts wander. Her body ached, but her head was fine...How are we going to get out of this? she thought. She was usually the positive one, but....this just seemed impossible...

Dom, worn out and still a little dizzy, curled up on a rug in a corner of the room. He closed his eyes, listening to his siblings as they talked and moved around quietly, and soon fell asleep.

Emmy kept thinking, her mind wandering to the worst possible outcomes. And with her head buried into her hands, she silently sobbed.
