"Sure." Lily smiled and moved over to sit with Nick and Isabelle.
"So, how do you like the school so far?" Lily asked settling into a chair next to Isabelle.

Isabelle thought about Nick's question. "Probably.... Dragon Magic," she told him finally. She loved the idea of magic, both using it and seeing it used. She looked down at her schedule list and saw that she had that very class the next period.

"Hi, Lilly," Isabelle said when she came to sit down beside her, "Yeah, school's been great for me so far. I can't believe we just got free time first period! How do you like it?"

"Ok," Professor exclaimed. "I apologize for my lack of punctuality. It was never a talent that I was great in. Anyways, you're in this class because the school made you take it. Well actually it is quite fascinating. I'm a dragon biologist myself, which is why I teach this class. Here you will learn the different species of dragons and their characteristics. Anyways, here's a simple introduction and then I'll show a demonstration."
He paused to allow the students take out paper and writing instruments before starting again.
"Dragons have largely been believed to evolve from the same ancestors of dinosaurs. I'm not so sure if anyone has heard of them, but has anyone heard of flying snakes and lizards?" He pointed at their respective pictures on the board. "No? Well these creatures can not truly fly. They can, though, glide from one height to a platform below them. It was from these creatures, where dragons developed their wings, and thus their ability to fly. But of course, an ordinary reptile the size of a dragon can not fly simply because it's too heavy. Why is that dragons can fly?"

"Yes?", Professor inquired, when he saw Jani raise her hand. "Why is it that dragons can fly?"

"Because their bones are made out of a lighter matirial than humans... like birds. And have really strong wing muscles," it was almost a question, and Jani hoped she got that one right so as to make a good impression...

"Well, that's part of it, Jani," Professor said kindly. But because dragons are rather heavy, light bones would easily break under such pressure. Instead they have a peculiar symbiotic bacteria in their intestines that produces hydrogen gas. Which we all know is 14 times less dense than air. This hydrogen is then channeled to special sacs in the dragon which reduces the overall density of the dragon to point where it can fly. However, the hydrogen can only be made after feeding. There's another curious benefit from the hydrogen gas that has appeared in several species. Does anyone know what that is?"

Arielle took a deep breath, hoping she wouldn't be wrong.
"Does it cause them to breathe fire?" she guessed.

"Yes, exactly," Professor said enthusiastically. "Several dragons do possess the ability to breathe fire because of the hydrogen. They accomplish that from transferring the hydrogen to their lungs through a series of special channels. When they wish to exhale their fire, they grind their teeth together to produce a spark that will ignite the hydrogen as it comes out from the dragon's mouth. The inside of the mouth is protected from this fire. The longest range of a dragon's fire is something close to 500 yards. There are those, however, that are more unique. There are those that can spray lethal acid across distances. Some can freeze with their breath. It really varies in the environment they are found. My dragon, Hari, can exhale poison gas. Which I will demonstrate shortly."
