((Ok, the I guess I'll start right now. I have an idea of how I can use not having the third guy.))


A figure stood alone in the darkness of the night. Only the moon shown light on her cold complexion. With arms crossed she stood staring into the water a lake. A cold an emotionless expression lay on her face. She stirred from this position only to angrily brush stray tears from her cheeks.

If only I hadn't sent him out alone. I should have anticipated something like this! The thought had been replaying her head for the past hours ever since the small funeral had ended. He hadn't had to die. But he had insisted that it was a tiny hunting trip. He could do it alone. You know accidents happen. You should have sent someone with him. After he had not returned, she'd gone out looking for him. It hadn't taken her long to find his torn body. She wasn't sure what animal had got him. There was too much damage for that. Now this was just one more "if" to add to the demons that followed her. One more "if" to haunt her steps.

"I'm so sorry Simon," Semmy Mal Doranna whispered into the night.

Aaron stood in the same forest, leaning against a great old oak. His arms were crossed, eyes closed, and head bowed as if trying to remember some long forgotten memory. It had been twenty short years since the fall of the Merta, twenty years of living in solitude and loneliness. Even though he had only been two at the time, Aaron could still remember his mother screaming in the distance, and the smell of smoke.

A chill northern breeze touched Aaron's pale cheeks and rustled his golden hair. His blue eyes looked up at the clear night sky full of stars. They seemed to twinkle brighter in solute for the death of one of the last Merta, and the moon frowned down in saddness across the landscape.

"I guess no one can escape destiny, even when fate means to cut a life short," Aaron murmered to himself, still gazing up at the sky through the willow's branches...

Amlis was walking in the forest, under the pale light of the start that made all silver-coloured. She never felt like that in her whole life. She didn't remember much of the fall of the Merta, but now it was different. Now she really felt like losing someone.

Her sadness couldn't find relief in tears or screaming, so Amlis kept walking in silence. She saw the shape of Aaron leaning against an oak, but she didn't want to talk to him, so she just kept walking in silence.

Analise sat upon a patch of green earth in the same forest as the rest of the group and leaned back against the strong bark of an oak with a heavy sigh. The pale moonlight caught her golden hair as she tilted her face toward its soft light, its gentle hue perfectly illuminating her tear-streaked face. Twenty summers and twenty winters had passed since the fall of Merta-and yet the passage of time could not dim the screams of her kin-of her family as they were mercilessly slaughtered from her memory. She was but a child then, yet she knew that their cries would live with her for a lifetime, forever haunting her soul and her dreams. She had tried to banish the horror from her mind, but they were are part of her, just as this was going to be. "So it begins again," she whispered in sorrow as she brushed away a silver tear, feeling as if her heart would break over the lost of a friend.

Dregde sat at the bace of a large tree, close to the one Aaron was at, stareing off into the the reflection of the moon on the dark lake. The breeze blew this dark hair into his bright blue eyes and he reached up to brush in away with his hand, but stopped as he saw movement out the the corner of his eyes. It was Amlis, walking passed in silents. He sighted, sorrow eating away in side him. Dregde could feel it in the night air, the sorrow. And there was something else there too, but maybe it was just a feeling. A feeling like something would happen soon, or something would change.

The monotone silence of the night was abruptly broke by the screeching of an owl. The noise was as loud as a blaring trumpet as it cut through the night stirring Semmy unbidden from her thoughts. She looked up at the sky trying to decide how long she had been out here now. Considering it had been sunning when she had come to stand at this spot and the moon was now showing, she knew she'd been out here awhile. With one last sigh Semmy turned and and headed back to camp.

When she got there, she set herself to making a fire. Whether anyone felt lie it or not, they had to eat something. They had some fresh meat, but since no meat had been caught today someone would have to go out hunting tomorrow. Two, no three people would go. Semmy sat back on her heels and watched the fire. She couldn't go on like this. Something had to change.

Aaron heart footsteps and looked int their direction to see Amlis walking as if in a trance. She walked by him without a word. Without even a hello. Sadness seemed to have taken over everyone's mind, eating away at their conciousness.

Aaron pushed himself off of the tree with a sharp sigh.
"We can't dwell in the past in the present. But we can't forget either. 'A forgotten past brings a futur of demise', they say," he said to who ever was listening...

Analise looked at Aaron as he spoke. She was near enough to hear his words and knew his words rang true, though right now little could shake her grief-the grief she knew that they must all be feeling. For the past twenty years they had all become close-they had to if they wanted to survive-that it hurt all the more when they lost one. "Something needs to be done," she said finally. "We can't go on like this much longer..." she added her voice drifting off as the pain of the loss stabbed her as a dagger to the heart once more.

Amlis turned as she hears Aaron's voice through the night. She stopped, as she hears Analise's voice as well. She only heard her last words "We can't go on like this much longer...".

Amlis heavily sighed and walked towards the young woman that she learnt to know so well in twenty years "what can we do?" she asked with a trembling voice.
