I think we shall go ahead and start. If no one takes the last few spots, I'll see if a few people could take a second character.
So, here we go!
~~~~~~
The young firey haired girl sat next to a small fire, carefully putting more ticks on the dieing embers to make it bigger to keep the small group warm. She hummed softly to herself while she worked, the tune soprical, and sad. Yet there was no trace of tears of her face. Not this time. Again some of the chosen died. This time those that lived wanted to give up, but the other persisted to go on. Like Rena. This wasn't all she had left, but she didn't like leaving things undone.
Rena's blue eyes looked at each of the Chosen around her. First on Ayvien. Not one of the original, and the girl didn't know the woman well, but she trusted her. Then Sorcha, someone who had conforted her a few times in the past and helped look out for her. Kith was next, the quiet shapeshifter that Rena almost saw as the leader of the group since the death of most of the original chosen. And last Emmeline, a nice woman who was also brave. Rena looked up to all of them.
With the fire now blazing again, she stood and pulled her jean jacket closer around her, and looked around. They were just outside the city of Dublin, and just on the horizon one could see the cliffs that led to the ocean, and if one listened hard enough they could hear the waves. Everything else was extensive grassland that stretched far in everydirection with not much brush for shelter. The sun was sinking in the West, and the stars coming out. The moon was only wanning in the sky.
Rena, someones coming. Look to the South, the distinct voice of Granit spoke in her head. Warily she looked in the direction stated, and saw something in the sky, but couldn't make out what it was.
"The first of them that we called?" she inquired to the others, pointing...
Vasalisa Beronthe and her phoenix Ryka looked on to their Destination. There they are... Lissa thought.
The Chosen... Ryka sang in her head and screeched a hello to the Chosen already gathered there.
Katyln pitifully picked through the fire with a twig as she reminisced what had happened since she possessed the girl in that city. Nearly three centuries. She witnessed the rise and falls of empires, revolutionaries and tyrants, wars and disease. All the kings and all of their soldiers couldn't kill her, although that was never put to practice. She wasn't exactly idle during that time. She had caused some of the wars (After all, how was she supposed to know the English and the Spanish were going to fight a war after she goaded the Spanish to cut off Captain Jenkins' ear.) and the disease (It wasn't like she was deliberately brought cholera to London. She didn't know she had it.). She had also tried to bring creatures from the other dimension into this world, finally succeeding in a place in Russia called Tunguska, which resulted in Eugenia. Oddly enough, this creature, for reasons that Katyln thought was best kept to itself, allowed itself to be tamed by the demon. And there it served her loyal companion and steed.
The beast in question was somewhere nearby. Hunting down sheep and other animals that these daft little humans kept to feed themselves. Of course, she could look for herself where Eugenia is but didn't feel particularly motivated to do that. It wasn't like it couldn't take care of itself. Not after that rather nasty incident. The sounds of flapping wings ran in the still air, drawing her away from the fire. And sure enough, Eugenia with its horse-like head screeching hideously landed near her makeshift camp, her teeth and claws glistening with blood from its hunt.
"Evening, Eugenia," she said calmly. "Had a nice hunt?"
It merely growled as she quickly gathered her bags together and stamped out the fire. Before long, she tied her belongings on the saddle over Eugenia's neck, before jumping on top of it. Katyln held on the horn of the saddle tightly as Eugenia began to fly upward.
There were times when Perry quite disliked the British Isles. Now, it seemed, was one of those times. It wasn't raining, but Ireland apparently had that perpetual dampness to it that England and Wales had. There was some saying about that. If you can't see the horizon, it's raining, and if you can, it's going to rain. Something along those lines anyway.
Perry fastened another button on his jacket and tightened his grip on Afanen's lead. They'd been hearing plenty of odd noises throughout the evening, and frankly, it was rather unnerving. Fortunately, he thought he could make out a fire burning in the distance. Which didn't necessarily mean anything, but fire usually meant people.
"C'mon, Fan," he said quietly to his horse, and hastened his pace, hoping whatever conversation he'd (hopefully) be having soon wouldn't be too awkward.
Quebedeaux flew high into the sky, causing the small creature on his back to throw her arms about his neck to stay on.
"Your trying to kill me, Queb," she whined her brown eyes narrowing in what she hoped was a frightening glare. Beneath her she could feel the dragon's rumbling laughter - he found the earth child's fear of falling funny, but he straightened his flight pattern to assuage her nervousness.
"You will get used to it in time, Meegan. I was hardly doing anything spectacular," the deep voice said - Meegan was fairly sure that he was smirking.
The nymph crossed her small green arms and looked over the red wings that spanned on either side of the large creature. She was still having trouble accepting that she was riding a dragon. All the stories she had heard were being shot down one by one. Quebedeaux was certainly fierce, but only when the two were in trouble the rest of the time she spent with him the dragon was perfectly easy going - very nearly bordering on lazy.
"Are we almost there?" Meegan asked, trying to squint against the cool wind that whipped her face.
"Very nearly," Quebedeaux responded.
Ayvein sat, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees, her black hair falling freely down her back. She sat near her three surviving companions, her closest friends beside Dyvain, although her back was set towards them. She could feel Rena's eyes looking towards her, but she ignored them - she could not allow them to see the tears.
It was the second time this had happened to this group, although she was not a part of it when it happened the first time - she never imagined it would happen again, and she never imagined she would feel as much pain as she did now. A long, dark red scar was forming down her left cheek, a constant reminder of that fateful day. Another tear slipped down her cheek as she tried not to show emotion, trying not to be weak, especially when she needed to be strong.
Ayvein's thoughts were interrupted when she heard Rena announce the new people to join their group were arriving. She glanced up, looking out in the distance, sighing.
She was ready to start the new chapter of this journey.
They're coming Nennia mindspoke for Kith alone. Her sharp gryphon eyes were sharp, keener then Kith could ever hope to see, even in shifted form.
Again? Kith muttered angrily in return. How many of the original twelve had died, only to be replaced buy those that yet again proved to be only mortal? Kith felt that the oncoming cycle would not end. This group was doomed, this mission doomed. They would not just "get lucky" and make it through the rest of the journey unscathed, not with the tear that was still ripping through.
Stop it. Nennia growled, slivers of anger penetrating thier mental bond. Your cynicism, your pessimism...its poison. She turned to stare him full in the eyes.
Kith returned the glare, though not with anger. Sadness maybe, longing, worry, or fear, but not anger. But can you not feel it? he asked. that we carry Fate as our companion and are subjected to his passing whims? We can't out run fate, not for long.
Nennia rested her head on her front talons, in a cat-like position. You and I both have outrun Fatemany times, and circled back to just outrun him again. she replied, looking at him with bright gold flecked eyes.
I just hate running. How much easier it would be to just quit? To quit racing death? he admitted.
Would that not still be running from Fate Nennia asked. Nen was right. He had a way of avoiding death. Yet that it seemed others did not share this. Those killed were the closest beings could claim as friends, save Nennia. To quit now would to be a coward and dishonor his companions. No, he would let Fate chase him until He was gasping for breath.
Sorcha stared at the ground, idly twisting the ends of a cloth bandage around in her fingers. She sat with her knees pulled close to her body, arms wrapped around them. Etan walked up behind her and nudged her shoulder with his nose. You should get up – you’ve been sitting there for the last hour.
Sorcha ignored the pegasus’s words in her mind, wrapping the ends of the bandage tightly around her fingers. She was tired, but it was a tiredness that sleep wouldn’t take away. Besides, every time she slept, she saw the Chosens’ faces in her mind. So many of them were gone, dead from defending the eggs and the quest.
Etan pricked his ears at Rena’s words and the echoing screech coming from the sky above. They’re arriving, he said to Sorcha. Why not fly up to meet them?
They’ll be here soon enough. Sorcha answered shortly, rousing herself enough to look up into the cloudy sky, searching for them.
Lissa and Ryka landed on the ground as light as they possibly could. Ryka transformed into his smaller form and leaped onto her shoulder as she approached the Remaining Chosen nervously.
Perry flinched as a Very Large Bird landed a few yards in front of him and Afanen. Perhaps they should've flown, he thought, before remembering that they had flown from across the Irish Sea, and it had been bloody freezing. He'd found that rather ironic, and had wished for not the first time that he had some sort of magic heat-giving power. That would be nice.
Stop worrying, Afanen's voice rang throug his mind. Perry sighed, straightened his shoulders, and walked closer to the group of people.
"Erm, hello," he greeted, hoping that this really was the ... Chosen (or something like that, wasn't it?). That would be typical of him; go out to find a group and completely miss them.
No, he told himself. He'd get it right. He couldn't possibly fail at everything he did.
Haha wow, it seems to weird to see this back up and running again. If things get really desperate, I'll bring Firis and Meridian back, if no one else takes the magma egg, or whatever else is left.... Just PM me if needed. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to fit one RP in...
(This is totally a blast from the past, seeing all of this stuff back up and running. Actually makes me miss it.)
Kith glanced at the two newcomers with a critical eye. The first to arrive was a man riding a winged mare. He looked ordinary enough, though as he dismounted Kith could see he was rather short. Still, he seemed a lot less nervous than the second to arrive. She had swooped down on a brilliant blue pheonix, startling the man as they landed. Oddly, the large fiery bird shrank in size until she was small enough to perch on the woman's shoulder. Kith could feel Nennia's curiosity at this wierd ability. Her approval may have been wond over by this trick, but Kith still inspected the newcomers. The woman was pretty, Kith had to admit, but beauty wouldn't help in a fight. Again Kith was drawn to the man's short, somewhat scrawny stature, wondering how the man would fare when faced with the perils of being a Chosen. The man suddenly spoke, seemingly uncertain. "Erm, hello." He called. Kith noted a hint of hesitation in his voice. Kith raised his brow in reply, but said nothing, prefering to continue his inspection.
Obtuse rat/ Nennia prodded Kith. You won't even greet them.
Kith took his eyes off the newcomers to glance at Nennia. I stutter he replied sarcastically.
Nennia returned Kith's glance with surprise. And I thougt all attempts at humour were below you. She made a noise that sounded too much like a "hmph" and stood up. If you will not greet them, then I will .
Do as you please Kith muttered in return.
Nennia approached the newcomers. Hello She mindspoke with them. My name is Nennia. Welcome to the Chosen.
Lissa blinked slowly before smiling nervously. "Hi. Thank you. My name is Vasilisa. Lissa for short. This is Ryka." She replied to the mindspeak, introducing both herself and her pheonix.
