Jax enjoyed the company and when free time was over both younglings went back to their rooms for a good night's sleep.

The next morning Jax was at the training room doors early as the first.

Ayla was there early also. This time she visited with Jax while they waited on the instructors and the other younglings.

When the instructor arrived they went in to train.

As the days went on Jax and Ayla continued to chat in the mornings and visit while they practiced after lessons.

They progressed well through the ranks of younglings. So well, in fact that the subject had been brought before the council! The younglings would reach the level of apprentice long before the typical age. It was observed that they both had much talent but also that they dedicated nearly all their time to training. This was unusual for younglings of their age.

Three months into the typical six month training period the two were called to appear before the Jedi council.

Ayla was very nervouse... she didn't know what to expect when they showed up before the council.

She gathered her things and headed towards the council building. Along the way she met Jax who was going the same place.

"What do you think they want?" she asked.

Jax shrugged. "I'm not sure... they didn't say why. I know we have been doing very good in the classes... maybe it is for something good."

He continued walking with a hopeful step.

Once they arrived they waited at the door since they were, as usual, a little early.

Ayla nodded. Surely that is what it was about.

As they waited she started talking to Jax about a new gymnastics move she had been thinking of. It was a very hard move and she wanted to try it next time they practiced.

As they talked the doors to the council room suddenly opened. There before them was the Jedi council seated in the circular room.

Jax walked in slowly and bowed respectfully before the council. He said nothing.

Ayla walked in beside Jax and bowed along with him. Then she spoke. "Hello! What is it the council wanted?"

She never was good at waiting or not talking.

Jax stood, waiting for the question to be answered.

"It has been brought to our attention that the two of you have been excelling far beyond your piers in the training," Mace Windu started. He glanced at the rest of the council members. "We are concerned, however..."

Jax furrowed his brow. They were concerned because they were doing good?

"Training together you have been," Yoda explained, seeing the looks on the youngling's faces. "Creating a bond you are."

"Once you are assigned to masters your friendship will not be allowed to flourish... you will rarely see echother unless you are back here at the temple." Ki-Adi-Mundi chimmed in.

"The two of you do understand this, correct?" Master Windu asked.

Jax nodded. "Of course," he said slowly. "We both know the path of a Jedi and our friendship encourages eachother towards that path not draws us away."

Ayla also wondered what the council was getting at.

"Of course we understand that!" she said slightly excitedly. "Like Jax said, we encourage eachother towards our eventual Jedi path. It strengthens us and helps us grow stronger... we thought the Jedi would appreciate that..."

The council raised an eyebrow at the younglings and Windu responded.

"You are a passionate one," he said to ayla. "Remember... there is no passion, there is serenity. We have not called you here to reprimand you. We simply want to be sure you are truly ready for the task ahead."


"The task ahead?" Jax asked.

Ayla rolled her eyes. She tried to remain respectful to the master. She wondered what their task might be. She waited for the answer to Jax's question.

"We realize it is early," Mace started. "But we think the two of you are ready to be given masters. You have progressed much faster than the rest of your class and your instructor tells us you have completed all his training and master the techniques."

Jax stood silent for a moment. He knew they were doing good in class but their Jedi Trainer had never mentioned that they were doing THAT good!

"We also believe it would be beneficial to prevent your bond from growing any further," Master Mundi explained. "Another few months and the two of you might have trouble separating your emotions from your training."

Again Jax was not sure what to say.

"Masters? Already?" Ayla said.

She glared as they mentioned them not being able to separate their emotions from their training. She didn't say anything.

"Complete your training is," Yoda replied. "Select you masters we will."

"Thank you!" jax finally spoke. "I am greatly honored that you think we are ready. We will not let you down!"

"You may speak for yourself," Mace Windu told him. "Let Ayla speak for herself."

Jax frowned but, again, said nothing.
