As four years passed Aver saw the Duchy`s rise very promising as Arigof was the head figure, but the true orders and decisions always came from gim and no one suspected really anything. Yet Arigof had proven far more harder to control, also the escape of the two prisoners had bothered him slightly and yet he was now smiling widely as saw Pataos finally rebuilt. Not to mention the cities were expanding, army had a strong basis of well armoured troops and oddly enough spears became the former fishermens best weapon to use. Yet his two greatest things tp be proud about was his mage guild that he had built and because of that his tower was now actually expanded. It had a square building surrounding it and the tower was in the middle with sheltered walkways creating a cross in a box when looked from above. Below lived his young students, currently around 50 starters and full fledged mages that had came from the main continent were 4 plus himself.

Finally there was the navy of Pataos, the jewel of the Duchy made to protect it. The navy consisted of big ships with heavy weaponry and extra fortifications, light and manouverable ships and finally the most common fast, but well equiped ships that had two sails. Aver couldn`t just help smiling everyday as he looked out of his window smelling the fish and fresh sea air, his empire was beginning to form and soon he would have enough power to strike at Qattara alltough diplomatic ways would be first used.

----

The Duegars and the gnolls had their greatest battle yet as the Duegars attacked few gnoll hill villages killing their younglings, the gnolls were enraged and followed Duegars into the depths of the mountains where the dwarves had multiple ambushed for them. Then their entrances were blocked as the Duegars collapsed them, then the Duegars themselves fled getting the gnolls where they were wanted then the Duegars used the key factor of their plan collapsing the whole caves crushing the gnolls. Then the dark dwarves didn`t yet start celebrating as they marched and easily took the foothills where Morethal slew their current leader sending them disarray.

The Duegars then dugged in and piece by piece began taking the valley after few defeats the gnolls gathered properly making their final desperate attack against the duegars on the plains. With heavy casualties on both sides neither truly gained victory, but the gnolls finally retreated and travelled south joining the orcish clans as the duegars organized their new kingdom. New Border forts were built and banners were raised to the borders signifying their rule, yet the war took it`s heavy tall on them. The King was slain during the battle of the plains and many veterans fell leaving only a younger generation to look after the kingdom. So that meant that Morethal was entitled to his fathers throne, now as king he closes the borders from orcs yet keeps open the possibilities of trade with humans or other races.

Atul came to visit the residence of Aver. He had a report in his hands knocked on the door. Can I come in? he asked. Atul entered. He started to speak:

"There is the report you wanted from me and I investigated the land of Qattara as well. As you may foresee there is no union in the region just the tribes. There are some little armoured units but I believe we can get pass them in one stroke. Sir Atul said. Aver was smelling the fish and fresh sea air at that time."

Aver hmped.

"Do you think that such barbaric methods should be taken before negotiations? Seriosly, many people at Qattara joined as or from the coast at least so they will join us. They will not raise their swords against their partly brothers that are now young men in our army... besides lord arigof doesn`t want a bloodbath nor do I so will send diplomats first, if they say no we might... threaten them and finally occupy... these are the instructions of our lord..."

I know that you like peace and do anything for the future of Pataos however, I thought you just wanted to know. My apologies sir Aver. I do not mean to act against the will of Lord Arigof of course. Whatever he says i obey for the future of Pataos. This attitude of mine will not be repeated sir.

Vengeance.

The word rang with even more power than before, hinting at the old obsession. Reyas Shademr stared intently at the duergar gathered below him in their mines. He balanced lightly on the narrow ledge, watching the flickering forge fires one mile below him.

Obsidian walls closed in around him.

Weary from his journey, Reyas propped his shortsword on his lap. How long had he wandered aimlessly?

The High Priestess's gray eyes pierced him in tacit condemnation.

"Failure!" she shrieked, cracking her whip.

Irony. Irony, fine and sweet. For a year he had worked to wreak vengeance upon those who slighted his race. Now, just as the dark elven army was mustering, he had turned his loyalties.

"You come beseeching our favor now? Now, when we needed you most? You come crawling to our borders with news of defeat? Failure!"

Pain lanced across his vision as the whip cut open his back. He uttered a wordless scream of agony.

A bit of rock slid loose and skidded down. Reyas froze and held his breath.

"Exile! Disgrace! You are no longer one of us!"

A pair of duergar, catching the movement, scowled and looked up. Reyas slipped silently back into the shadows, but not before they cried out. With a feral grin, the dark elf unsheathed both shortswords.

"Someone is up there!"

Morethal liutenant screamed and Morethal grinned as he looked up as, he saw an elf like figure disappearing from the ledge above. Guards came to the sight and many were already manouvering to the place where the intruder was. The Duegar king drew both of his axes watching up ready to make good use of his axes.

Kael looked at Istisk, one of his newly-raised cities, with great pride. Only four years ago, this city was nothing more than ruins. Now it was the capital of his little domain. He watched his army from the stone walls of his capital with satsification. Warrriors with their halbreds glistening in the sun and gold and red banners flying the hot air stood outside Istisk. There were about about twenty elephants with their towers attached to them, swarming with more men. There were many mounted warriors mounted on horses and camels. There was now trade between the cities, with camel caravans racing across the land. Nauskal's fleets was one of the best, Kael thought. Five gigantic Sailing Citadels among more smaller warships and transport ships represented the navy, while in the shipyards, more ships were built. Kael smiled as everything was prepared for him to invade Bethakra.

[Edited for number issues]

(no offence, but what did I say about the elephants? No oliphants thanks(well the archer thingy is realistic as it was used in real warfare, but nothing giantic) and please do not give very exact numbers, nor have I... besides those forces just seem freaking massive to me to be built in four years. Do you realise how many ships you can build in a year with medieval equipment? not that much is sure or how many workers would you have needed? no offence, but trying to keep it balanced for everyone...

PS. I know I am a prick who spoils all the fun)

[sorry but I'm a spelling paranoid and it's "duergar" :teehee:]

Reyas swore under his breath as he darted along the ledge. He leapt lightly onto an adjacent boulder just as the dark dwarves ascended. Crouched in the shadows on higher ground, he fingered his shurikens and waited until they were within range.

Three shurikens hissed through the air. Three duergar dropped unconscious, saved from death by their thick hide. Three more duergar rose to take their place.

The intruder was seemed more than deadly by judging of that act and the duergar king hmped as he went after the dark elf, he arrived as the three guards closed onto at the stranger with their shields covering them. Morethal smirked and waited to see what would happen.

The kingdom had begun to prosper, and the aggresive neighbors had been annexed, the king had just sent a diplomatic mission to Pataos.

^Edited it. Pity, I have always loved huge armies.

Kael looked out at his city when a messager came up to him. He bowed and said, "My lord, a message for you." He extened his hand which had a small note in it. "What?" Kael said as he took it. He read the runes of his nation with displeasure. Finally he threw the note at the bewildered messager and descended the stairs of the wall and walked towards one of the government buildings he had erected. He walked into the planning room and said to the people present, "What do you mean we don't have enough wood?" Silence reigned in the room when it was broken by one of the men present.
"You see, my lord," he said. "The tribe in Bethakra whom we have traded wood with has refused to give us any. We have started growing our own trees in our lands but it will take some time for them grow."
"What have you offered to the tribe in exchanged for wood?" Kael demanded.
"I think about twenty pounds of our metal for forty of their wood."
"And we are sitting, thinking it was a good deal. Prepare three small ships and a transport barge and set the course for Bethakra. We're getting our own wood."
Kael walked away and left the men in the room

"Well not all of them..."

Aver said hinting towards his mages, then suddenly mage came in giving a scroll to Aver. Aver read it quietly and smiled.

"The king of Yithare sent this... he seems to be willing to meet... well... Lord Arigof has certain duties here and you too so that means I must go for I can travel faster than any ship... or well actually there might be a ma from here, but tell him and lord arigof I am going to meet this king personally..."

Aver said and turned away to his own travelling preparations.
