"Is that so?" The Questioner growled, eyes narrowing. "That would count as impeding me, and lest you want to cause harm to both yourself and her, you don't want to do that."

"Then pry into my mind, I offer the chance freely." Raina said, coldly, speaking up for the first time. "It's not as if I have anything to hide, since you've already seen my brother's memories."

"If that's the case, it's not necessary to go into your mind..but tell me this..do you have the same markings?"

In response, Raina lowered her head for a moment, and when she raised it, tears glistened on her cheeks..and black could be seen in the places were the tear tracks had been. That meant the face paint came off easily enough, and via her sleeve, Raina removed it, and showed that she indeed had the facial tattooes, as well as the serpentine symbol on her arm, revealed after she rolled up her left sleeve.

"Judge us by this, or give us a chance to explain. The choice is yours." she said clearly, voice not even quavering one whit.

Aranel once again glared at the questioner. "Let them explain," she growled, "Every one deserves a second chance. You cannot harm them based on this. They have done nothing here." Her hand tightened on the hilt of her dagger.

"If you did, it could probably keep me from a death sentence." Raina said, in an uncharacteristic soft tone, meeting Landen's gaze for the first time. It was then she realizing there was some sort of connection between them..what, she didn't understand.

"Our lives are in your hands." Rylin then said, speaking up again, giving the Princess an even look.

Landen met her gaze, puzzled by the newfound connnection between the two of them... Brought back from his thoughts by Raina's even-toned voice, he looked at the princess intently.

For the first time Silvryn looked unsure - but only for a moment. Having listened in silence so far, she pushed her thick black hair back from her face and met Rylin's eyes. "As I explained to Raina, earlier," she began, eyes flicking towards her as she spoke, "even now traitors penetrate our borders. Spies still frequent the city. But you are both Gifted - nay, Exalted, if I am not mistaken - and we cannot afford to pass up the chance to acquire your assistance. We do not kill in cold blood, nor do we abandon anyone to the possibility of such. Make good your explanation." And she waited, expression expectant, whirling thoughts held at bay with the iron fist she'd worked so long to perfect. Nobody, sometimes not even Silvryn herself, knew those thoughts, or had for years on end.
