Wolfe nodded and climbed into the humvee, still studying the GPS system. "Everyone present?" he asked into his radio.

"Sparrow here - roger," replied Erin, from her own Humvee. "Follow the GPS signal?"

Adam gave a quick apology to the natives, who weren't looking overly happy with the turn of events. He hurried to the humvees and climbed into the passenger side of Erin's jeep.

Shade knew she had to give her friends cover. She couldn't give them away to only keep her figner..though she would really like to keep it. Ugh, my job is going to be so much harder after losing a finger...Lord help me... She thought, and then looked at the evil man before her. "My answer, sir..." She said, her eyes glaring, "...is still no."

"Affirmative, Sparrow." Wolfe revved up the engine. The humvee's strong headlights scanned the jungle as the jeep crashed over dense underbrush and obstructing tree roots.

So well were the landmines buried that their humvee caravan almost drove right over them without even realizing. In fact, the only thing that saved them was the metal detectors on the humvees going nuts.

Wolfe jammed on the brakes and gingerly stepped out. Now that he was closer, he discerned almost invisible wires strung around the trees. "Landmines, " he informed the others with a grimace. He extracted a metal detector and scanned the ground ahead. Once again, he grimaced. They had brought along a few ULSV robots, in case the Soviets saw fit to plant them a few surprises.

The door of one of the jeeps slammed and Erin appeared from the glare cast by the headlights of the vehicles. "Difficult," she observed, scanning the trees and taking in the web-like wires. "Shall we attempt to go around?"

Andy didn't say a word and cruised a safe distance behind the humvees. Good decision, that. Wolfe apparently saw fit to jar and try to chuck his passengers out of the humvee by slamming on hydraulics, and Andy was glad he was not on it.

andy silently headed back towards the natives. he turned his radio off. they'll think he's either kidnapped by the mysterious person or persons or the natives.

Lazlo could hear the cars nearby and turned his gaze upwards in slight disbelief, he tookout a rag and gagged Shade before taking his Ak-47 at hand. He also pulled out a box from underneath the table, filled with grenades and took a number of them with him. He sneaked up to his secrte hatch, he waited quietly with his AK at hand, if they would begin to clear the mines he could surprise them.

Shade watched him in distress. She had to warn her friends...she couldn't let them be killed. She struggled, swaying back and forth until she fell upon the floor. She must escape and warn them...she must! She tried to army crawl out of the base, going away from Lazlo.

Wolfe shook his head. The Soviets had to be guarding one heck of a treasure for them to rig the place up like this, in which case they should investigate. But if it wasn't the Soviets, if it was Shade's captor, then they had no choice but to investigate.

He loaded his M16 and motioned for the others to fan out and be ready. A ULSV robot hummed to life and mechanically went to work detecting the landmines.

Shade, when she got close enough to smell the earth, but she knew she couldn't escape, knew she had only one choice.

She screamed.

She screamed as loud as her lungs would allow her, to warn her friends. She knew Wolfe was smarter than almost anyone she knew, but she had to warn them somehow.

Even though her screams came in mumbled moans, she hoped it would at least get Lazlo away to give them cover...if it didn't warn them.

Erin, gun out and safety catch off, stopped with a frown. "Does anyone hear something...?" she asked, head up like a deer scenting the air. "It's very faint..."

Shade heard someone footsteps and she kept screaming for as long as possible, until the gag caused her not to breathe and she had to stop.

Wolfe froze and listened. The nape of his neck prickled as he sensed the faintest sound. A scream...

Shade.

He whipped out his M16 and ducked behind a tree. "This is Hunter," he whispered into his radio. "Enemies may come bursting out of that hatch any minute. Split up. Hawk and Sparrow, you're Charlie team. Wolf [and anyone else who's still with this ] and I are Delta. Delta might have to go in. Charlie, keep yourselves alive. We've still got a report to make."

Meanwhile, he was jotting down a quick map of the robot's progress in case they would have to make a quick incursion.
