Giving Gareth another gentle smile, Calista wanted to talk with him more, but the little that she had spoken already wore her out. I will never forget how you have helped me, Calista thought to herself as she glanced briefly at her sister and then back at Darius and Gareth.

Sighing sadly at Gareth's words, Darius had hoped that Gareth would have a place, but it seemed they had to fall to the safe house. "I have a safe house we can all go to---some distance from here. Unfortnately, I have not lived in the house for awhile so it has fallen to disrepair and unsuitable for ladies," he announced to the group a bit sadly, hating to have to take his love such a place to live.
"It's all right," Calista whispered weakly. "I'm sorry..." she croaked out as her eyelids began to droop. "For bringing...all of this....on you..." she added her weak voice trailing off. Maybe I should just give surrender myself to Julius. Rosalina and Darius deserve to live happily together. And Gareth was dragged into this mess because of me, she thought morosely. I have done nothing but cause problems for everyone, she thought as she looked away from the group.

Calista smiled at Rosalina as her younger sister took her hand. Dimly listening to the conversations around her, Calista frowned slightly. "I wish to help as well," she croaked out weakly.

Darius nodded to Rosalina and Gareth. "Very well," he remarked as he climbed up into the driver's seat. "We all set then?" he asked Rosalina and Gareth before frowning at Calista's wishes to help them clean up.
"Absolutely not," Darius told her sternly, but said nothing more on the matter, figuring Rosalina or Gareth could stop her if they wanted too.

Calista sighed when Rosalina just told her to rest. "I hate being so useless," she murmured softly before drawing in a sharp breath.

Seeing that Rosalina, Gareth and Calista were all set, Darius immediately urged the team of mules to forward knowing that they had a long road ahead of them.

Keeping his eyes on the road, Darius continued to drive the wagon on. So far they were making decent time and he could only hope they would arrive to the safe house without any trouble.

As the wagon travelled on, the steady beating of the wheels slowly lulled Calista to sleep.

Keeping his eyes sharply on the road ahead of him, Darius made sure to keep his senses attuned to their surroundings, knowing that bandits could strike without warning. Moreover, since his love and her frail sister were in the wagon, he did not want to risk anything happening to them.

"Some distance more," Darius replied back. "I would say at least ten more miles," he remarked. "Is your sister doing all right with the travel?" he called back, hoping that Calsita was doing okay so they would not have to stop. The longer that they remained on the road, the more uneasy he was growing.

Darius merely nodded when Rosalina remarked that Calista was asleep, which was what she probably needed. Sighing at Gareth's question, Darius could only shake his head as he glanced out at the position of the sun. "No, I'm afraid not," he remarked. "I think even if I were to run these mules to their graves we would still not make it in time," he remarked.

As the sun set, the small company pulled into the deserted campground. "Hopefully this place will be secure..." he remarked softly as he glanced back at the three occupants in the wagon.
