Varianna Pierce shut the door behind her and surveyed the packed backroom of the Iron Gate Tavern. In front of her was a long, wooden table, at which were seated a group of pirates. Some stood in the dark corners of the room where the candlelight could not reach, causing their faces to become unrecognizable. Vari strode over and removed the dagger at her side from its sheathe, slamming the blade into the wood of the table to get everyone’s attention. “Right then - if any of ye bilge rats wants to get down to business, ye’d best listen to what I have to say. Most of ye know why we’re gathered here, but for those of ye who are undeniably ignorant,” here she paused and glanced over at Joseph Kerringston - the epitome of ignorance, “then I’ll tell ye once more. We’re going after a treasure, savvy?” She presented a weatherworn map from her vest and laid it down for the others to see. “Took quite a while for me to get that precious scrap of paper, but ‘ere it is.” She pointed to a small island in the middle of the ocean. “This be where we’re goin’ -- Isla de Piedra. Have yerselves a gander.” She smiled in satisfaction and folded her arms across her chest.

[[So the ones whose faces are shrouded are the EITC spies sent by Beckett… hope this was a good opening post. ]]

(( As usual, I'll be a rebel here... :P ))

"Heya! Do you lo-o-ve me?"

More like a song than a cry, the syllables stretched beyond endurance, echoing across the port docks from the prow of the Greywing where the captain herself leaned over, calling to the world. Storm was stunning in appearance. Her skin was a tawny tan, golden from the sun's rays, and her hair was such a flaxen white that it almost looked white. Her smile was white and eager, and her eyes were the color that any pirate craved - as golden as two dubloons, glimmering with the sparkle of the ginger wine she'd been putting away. Silver bangles graced her bare arms, her simple white tunic having had the sleeves torn off just above the elbow.

"Do you lo-o-ve me?"

No answer came. No answer required. All the world loved Storm, for her golden eyes and pale, wild hair; for her youth, just 20 years of age, and her beauty; and for common-sense self-preservation. Storm had been known to kill those that did not delight her, and it did not delight her to be unloved.

She stood at the prow, golden-skinned, silver-bangled arms reached out on either side, her face turned to the red, setting sun, eyes closed. "Dance with me," she told the sun, her voice soft as a lover's, feeling her body warm to the evening sun's burn. "Dance in my loving arms."

Storm danced alone on the prow in the sun, feet spinning lightly under her frame. The rest of the crew just shook their heads from a distance and smiled to eachother as they furled up the sails. The captain was crazy as a catfish, no one knew quite what to make of her, but hey, who was comlaining? Storm made them rich, and every day was showtime. That was the truth of it. Run with the crazy golden girl, and the lights were bright and the days were long and sweet and easy.

Bastian, the first mate, rolled his eyes dramatically at his captain. Had anyone not known better, they might have mistaken the burly bull of a man for the captain. After all, it was he who always kept Storm in check. If it weren't for him, she probably would have met the end of her rope a long time ago. "The ship's been secured, Captain," he called to her, dismissing her from her revelry. "We're ready to head into town." He wiped the back of his hand across his brow.

"Good, good! Very well!" Captain Storm all but pranced past him, her pale, wild mane flickering behind her in the breeze. She vaulted herself over the side of the ship, landing on the decks with only the slightest wobble.

Her crew followed, with Bastian bringing up the rear with another eye roll in her direction. The first mate noted the way she had a vice grip around the arm of one of the men, Trystan, who was following after her like a lost puppy. Young, well-built, and devastatingly handsome, it was no secret that Trystan was the new "favorite" and served little but one purpose. His name suited him. Another eye roll.

The crew made their way into the raucous disarray that was Tortuga's nearest tavern, The Iron Gate. Stormy let her crew to disperse, even detaching Trystan from her arm as she made her way through the madhouse to the room in the back, Bastian lumbering behind at her heals. The door slammed as she walked in, oblivious to the fact that the meeting had already started without her.

"Well," Bastian muttered behind her as she stood awkwardly to the side, looking for a seat, ignoring the fact that some of their fellow pirates were murmuring about them. "You got your entrance. Late as usual. Happy now?"

"Quite."

(That was an excellent starter post, Ara! :teehee: loved the whole Vari/Joe stuff. ;) ;) also, Sojo, I can’t wait to learn more about your charries. :teehee: they sound great! Lol)

Joseph Kerringston hardly lifted an eye as Vari entered the place. He was lost, once again, in his mug of rum. Besides, whatever she had to say was no doubt pointless for him to listen to. It was probably just more jabber about getting some gold on some island that never existed and never would, making the gold useless to him. He raised his blue, almost gray, eyes to hers when he heard her mention ignorance, he could feel her eyes on him. He laughed mockingly to himself who’s really the ignorant one here? he thought. She was, of course. He casually turned his glance to the piece of paper she had thrown on the table. He looked at it for a moment before getting up and walking over to her. “So ye finally got yer treasure map, eh? Or is that somethin’ you drew yerself to pass off as the real thing?” He took a swig of rum before looking back at her and grinning widely. Suddenly, some new people entered, disturbing their conference. He turned and watch them for a minute, “we’ve got visitors,” he looked back at Vari, giving her another mysterious and lopsided grin just to get on her nerves.

Her thoughts were heavy, her head felt like it would fall to the ground like a rock if she didn't keep it propped up with her hands, cradling her forehead. Fingers methodically pressing against her temples to relive some of the stress she had been having over the past couple of weeks. It didn't help that the man who had induced such stress was sitting in the corner.

Aurora's chocolate brown eyes moved towards that corner, brows furrowing as she saw Gabriel leaning against the wall, his face peaceful. She scowled at him before returning her gaze towards Captain Vari. Now was not a time to be thinking about her old friend.

Gabriel saw Aurora glance towards her and couldn't help but smirk, he knew he was getting under her skin and that was all he wanted. Leaning back in his chair he shrouded himself in the darkness, that kept himself from being recognized.

Thankfully, Captain Vari's words seemed to divert all of Aurora's attention onto the task at hand. So a treasure map had been found, how convenient. It had been a while since Aurora had been on an adventure, and it was about time she went on another. Lifting her head from her hands, she pushed her thick golden brown curls over her shoulder and kicked up her feet, resting her boots on the table in front of her, one foot crossing over another.

"Isla de Piedra, Stone Island. Hopefully those stones involve some sort of jewels" Aurora pondered as she turned at the sound of some more people coming in. She eyes them suspiciously for a moment, one could never be too careful, especially when ye was a Pirate.

Grimacing into his all too empty mug of ale, Belial grunted and wiped his nose. The drink had nothing on his native ouzo. He had seen men drink less of that to fall over than these people drank to stagger a little. These children. They thought themselves so great, didn't they? Never gave a thought to them that had the sea before them, did they? Not so much as a "Thank you kindly" for keeping it free of those twerts on their EITC ships, was there?

Not that Belial had done any of these things. Nor had he ever set blade to the throat of an East India captain. He was neither a savior of the free ocean nor a looter of that freedom's spoils. The Bogsmiths had kept to themselves quite peacefully, thank you very much. They weren't ones to get into trouble, no sir. Belial rubbed a grimy hand over his forehead. All this thinking and getting angry always gave him headaches. The best thing for this --

His eyes brightened as he looked back at the mug. Perhaps it had filled while he was hard a'thought? Much to his dismay, the bottom was still painfully visible. Before he had a chance to pout again, the pretty girl started talking. Belial tried to concentrate, he really did. Then the girl threw something on the table. Leaning in for a closer look, Belial stared in awe at the squiggles and dots running around the parchment. To think, that was going to lead them somewhere!

A banging at the front of the tavern brought Belial round. His already large eyes seemed to jump out of his face at the party that walked in the door. His face took on a surly cast as the child walked in like she owned the place. Pretty or no, disrespect was disrespect. She should have come on time. The Greek blood in him took an instant dislike to such an insult.

[[Why thank you, PD! Glad you liked the opening post. :pirate: I hoped that we could add some Jari in here. :teehee: ]]

The smile plastered on Vari's face quickly disappeared as she glanced at Joe. She waltzed innocently over to him, leaning down to meet his eyes. "Joseph...," she purred, "I think ye've forgotten that I am not you, an' even I wouldn't stoop to that level so as to draw up a fake map an' gather everyone 'ere just to lie. Sincere, I am, an' I'm sure that Aurora would gladly vouch for me, aye A-Rose?" Vari looked over at Aurora expectantly, before turning back to Joe. "Each promise I make, I keep..." She ran her thumb over his bottom lip seductively and cupped his chin in her hand. "Savvy?"

[[:teehee: Just trying to wait for Will, so thus we have Jari flirting. :D]]

Aurora had just waved down one of the barmaids, ordering a pint of Rum when she heard Vari speaking to her. Eyes lifted towards her friend who was awfully close to Joseph, she wasn't sure what the two were talking about, but she was more of a friend to Vari than Joseph and knew to choose her sides wisely, besides Varianna was also the Captain. "Aye, her words be true, this here map is as genuine as they come, ye can't forge something like that..." She motioned to the tattered paper laid out in front of them all just as her pint came.

"Thank ye kindly, miss." Aurora took the large pint in hand and took a long chug of the Rum, sighing as it satisfied her most basic of needs.

Storm plopped herself down at the table, a tight spot between two of her fellow pirates, glancing eagerly over the map. Bastian stood behind her, staring over her shoulder, unmoving as a statue.

"We in on this, Cap'n?" he murmured quietly to her from over her shoulder.

"Of course we're in," she shot back under her breath. "We'd have to be crazy to skip out on this!" Bastian held back a sarcastic comment at the word 'crazy', grinning to himself.

Storm glanced over at the woman in charge and the man - Joe, had she called him? - and raised a brow. "Huh, that's cute," she muttered sarcastically under her breath.

Nathaniel passed through the streets of Tortuga like a shadow. His dark coat and trousers made him almost invisible in the dark. But if it had been light the inhabitants of Tortuga might have noticed him if they wouldn't have been drunk most of the time for Nathaniel was looking as un-piratey as possibly could. His clothing was not torn and not as colorful and as his weapons were not visible for others one would suspect him to be an ordinairy civilian.
Nathan halted in front of a tavern, Iron Gate Tavern; it didn't strike him as a brothel nor did there seem to be a barfight. He longed for a drink and some place quiet, though he did not expect to find that any place here.
Although his entrance was by no means abundant, it was almost impossible not to notice Nathaniel, the contrast with him and everyone dwelling in Tortuga was striking. A cold gush of wind ripped through the pub and Nathan quickly closed the door behind him. He cast a look around him through the tavern where it seemed that a meeting was going on.
Ignoring some stares he went over to the bar to order an ale. After he'd taken a seat, he observed the scene with some interest. Some of the pirates were studying some sort of map. A treasure map. Nathan grinned. He would never understand this folk. They took interest in money, treasure and rum, nothing more.
His dark eyes glanced for a moment on the woman who spoke to them, wondering whether she was in charge but then he decided that he didn't care and paid them no attention anymore.
