Lucy squeeled and giggled franticly as her father picked her up. Her small feet kicked as she was lowered to the ground with a large smile on her face.
She listened to her father as he spoke about Edward and then said, "But he never sleeps on the couch, daddy. He sleeps in his bed, silly!" She giggled to herself once again and then playfully hung on her dad's leg.

"No, but not tonight Lu..." Her father said looking down at his leg which was being squeezed with a child's might. "You know, tonight me and your mom need to check on him a bit."
He smiled at his daughter and petted her silky hair, "Okay?" he whispered.

Lucy's smiled slightly wavered and then re-appeared, "Ok, daddy. But can I have another cookie before I go to bed?" She jumped off his leg and ran toward the warm cookies that were sitting on the kitchen countertop. "Mommy? Can I have one please?"

Katherine smiled lovingly to Lucy and nodded. "Of course, you can... but, you have to brush your teeth good." She said softly. She then looked back over to Timothy and smiled a little more.

Lucy smiled and grabbed another sugar cookie and stuffed it in her mouth. "Mmmmm!" she said to herself.
After she finished the cookie and swallowed it, she brushed the crumbs off her mouth and then ran to her mother and gave her a hug. "Good night mommy!" The hugs then proceeded to her father and Edward. "Night daddy! Good night Edward!"
She then disappeared around the corner of the hallway and skipped to her room.

Timothy looked to his wife and gave her a tender smile, "Why don't you put Edward to bed?"
Edward in the meantime looked down the hall, towards where the little child had disappeared to. It was then that Edward, in the first time in his life, coughed. Yes, coughed. Not just simple cough, but the sound of a cough one gets when pneumonia sets in.

Katherine slowly nodded in agreement with Timothy and stood up from the couch. She then heard Edward's cough, which made her snap her head in his direction. "Edward... are you... cold?" She asked, softly. She then walked toward him.

Lucy ran into her room and quickly undressed herself. She then put on her bright red pajama pants and a white sweatshirt that was decorated with candy canes. She took her hairbrush off her dresser and brushed out her hair softly. "Now, I need to brush my teeth," she said quietly to herself as she made her way to the bathroom across her room.

Edward slowly inched around to look at Katherine, only to reveal a sulky, skinny face that was covered by a clump of drooping hair.
"No..." he replied.
Timothy looked at Katherine uneasily and rose his thick eyebrows, "Just put him to bed...I'm going to go tuck Lucy in..."
He examined Edward's frame once more, before he strode down the hall towards Lucy's room.

Lucy was now in the bathroom standing on a step-up stool and was brushing her teeth, while looking at herself in the mirror. Her mouth was covered with white foam, as she spit out the tootpaste into the sink. She gargled and rinsed her mouth three times before examing her clean set of teeth in the mirror.

Katherine nodded to Timothy and then gently placed her hand on Edward's shoulder. "Come on... let's get the couch ready for you. We'll let you sleep in here tonight." She told him softly and smiled a little to him.

Katherine smiled nicely to Edward and then moved some stuff off the couch, so that it wouldn't be in his way. She sighed happily and then adjusted pillows in certain ways, so that he would be comfortable. "There... I'll go and get you a blanket from Lucy's room." She said softly and then walked in the direction of her daughter's bedroom.

Switching off the bathroom light with a quick flick of her finger, Lucy dashed into her room and jumped in bed. Her hair bounced around her face for a split second before she dug herself under her warm cotton covers. She rested her head on the white soft pillow and looked at her doorway....thinking of Christmas morning...which was tomorrow when she woke up.

Timothy's tall father figure appeared into the doorframe. "Goodnight Lucy.."
He said calmly nearing his daughters childish quaint bed. "Have a good sleep." He bent down and kissed her forehead.

Edward watched Katherine disappear down the hall.
He sighed sadly and slowly moved to the couch. There, he layed down, resting his hands ontop of chest to prevent any slices to his body during the night.
He awaited Katherine to return.
