Leaning up against the side of the shack, Edward drew his sword and cleaned the dried blood from the metal with an old cloth. It had been forever since he last used it, or at least it felt like forever. Then again, in this place, time passed slowly. The day seemed like an eternity, especially after everything that had happened. Marveling at how the blade shined, Edward was slightly shocked to find himself wondering what it would look like buried deep in Beckett’s body as he laid dying in the sand. Too bad it wouldn’t do any good; they were undead and the sentence of eternity for their sins was enough to drive even the most sane person mad in this place. With a heavy sigh, Ed watched as James made his way over, leaving Beckett standing behind. It was a great relief to have a friend in the Locker, even if they had been on opposite sides in the living world. He sheathed the sword, knowing fighting wouldn’t help the situation. It was odd; in the past couple of hours, Edward could feel himself changing… no longer a bloodthirsty pirate on the outside, even though some terrible thoughts still ran though his head. It was here that his mind began to drift back to his parents… were they alright? Hannah was probably worried sick, when her only son had simply picked up and left and she never heard from him again. He could only hope that his father, Harrison, was bringing enough pay home to support himself and his wife. He hoped they weren’t angry with him… they were probably in their sixties by now, if not dead. Dead like him, but he had gained a punishment eternal; one he would have to deal with forever.

-----------

Jérôme took a step backwards as Joe came closer. He could tell right away that this man was trouble, and the other woman’s mental state was not the best at the moment. He certainly wasn’t about to get a sword to his throat like the other man had. So he squeezed Carmon’s hand tighter, feeling she was his only bit of protection from these other two.

Vari’s eyes remained on Joe, hating the man before her more than ever. He knew how she could get, and he always used that to his advantage; bringing her so close to the edge until she was ready to snap. But she had never crossed the line, at least not yet. Her logical side had a way of telling her it just wasn’t worth it, no matter how strong the impulse to toss him overboard. “Look Joe,” she said, a taste of bitterness in her mouth, “isn’t there somethin’ else ye could be doin’ above deck?” She knew he wasn’t going to leave, oh no, he wanted to hear every word of this conversation about what to do with the boy.

-----------

“Aye, thunder…” His voice trailed off, still with thoughts of the living world. Richard propped himself up on his elbows as Cole spoke. He nodded, understanding every word. “I - I know there ain’t much to offer here, but I figure a friend makes up for all that.” He glanced over at Cole briefly, with a smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Beautiful night… mornin’ rather… suspect it’s nearin’ five o’clock.”

-----------

[[Ha ha, you know, I’m not sure if I asked before bringing her in… sorry. ]]

Deanne placed the dress in Lotty’s arms as another rumble of thunder was heard somewhere over the horizon. “Well, your stay may be longer, lass, if this storm keeps up the way it is,” she commented, locking the chest again. “’sides, I’m sure you’ll find this place to be just like home.” Offering a warm smile, she returned to her chair and opened the book, skimming over the words and trying to find where she had left off.

-----------

“Hm.” Keyara studied him for a moment - yes, this was Will Turner, the same bloody pirate she had encountered many years ago. “Take me to him,” she breathed softly, turning away to inspect the ship. At least it was much cleaner than when it belonged to Davy Jones, and kept in better condition… Turning on her heel, she said, “Mr. Turner, I am Keyara Pierce. You knew my sister, Varianna.” She looked at him with desperation in her eyes; perhaps Cutler was here - she needed to know… needed to find him…

(Awesome, Nienna, happy to hear that! :D)

Norrington eyed Edward as he entered, noticing the pirate’s sword was still draw. He didn't like the looks of it even though, as he had to remind himself, no one could die here. He still couldn't help but feel relieved when Blackhaven put it back into it's scabbard. The man was still a pirate, right? Still unpredictable. James sighed and sat down at a roughly made table. It definitely wasn’t quite what he had grown used to, but he supposed in this life it would have to do. At least he had a safe place to go unlike Beckett. It was funny how the roles were reversed now, or at least the playing ground was more even than it had been. Beckett didn’t hold all the chips anymore. He didn’t control anyone’s destiny anymore. He was just a normal man like the rest of them. James rested his elbow on the table and put his chin in the palm of his hand as he thought that over. ‘That would also count for that pirate then, right?’ he glanced back at Edward.

____________

Cutler watched as the make-shift door on the small shack closed on him, leaving him… alone. He bit his lower lip and remained where he was. He was unsure of where to go from here so he decided, since his clothes were already soaked, to sit on the beach and watch the ocean-like-water churn and swirl with the storm.

___________

(muahahaha, couldn't resist, mate...)

Joe turned on his heel and faced Vari again. A twinkle in his eye and a smile on his lips. He knew, yet again, that he was playing with Vari. And he was enjoying every minute of it. “No, and why do ye want to get rid of me?” he walked closer to Vari and looked down into her eyes. He mentally marked it down as the closest he had ever gotten to the other woman. He smiled sweetly at her. “Varianna,” he emphasized her full name and leaned even closer to her, “do you… not like me?” before she could reply to him Joe made his move and brushed his lips against hers, however, even as he kissed her he left one hand on his pistol, just in case.

Carmon’s jaw almost dropped open at the sight of what Joe was doing. How brash did this pirate have to get before he got his point across? This was… insanity. Vari was going to explode and kill him! She wished he and Vari weren’t practically blocking the stairs up to the main deck. She needed to get Daviel down here. Right now. Somehow this needed to be stopped. She looked down at the boy and thought about what she should do. Finally, she decided to go for it while the two were still… occupied. She ran with Jérôme, looking down at the two just to make sure that Vari hadn't killed Joe yet before dashing onto the deck and calling, “Daviel!”

_______________

Cole looked over at Richard quizzically before nodding, “aye,” he studied Rich again before saying almost in a whisper, “a friend can never make up for a lover though.” he looked down at the sand and ran his fingers through it. All of his thoughts were now focused on Lotty. He hated bringing the conversation back to something so serious, but he couldn’t help it.

________________

(that’s ok. ;))

Lotty looked down at the dress then back to Deanne. “nay, I don’t think so,” another clap of thunder, Lotty paused before she spoke again, “the storm will be gone by the morning. It’s how they always work.” She nodded, hearing the rain pound down. Lotty stood still and watched Deanne. She tried to return Deanne’s smile, but was thankful that she didn’t have to as the girl went back to her book. Lotty looked back down at the white dress, distorting her face with a strange expression of dread and anxiety. She didn’t want to be kept for too long and she hoped that the girl was wrong and the seas would be calm enough by tomorrow for her and her crew to continue their voyage.

Will took a step back and eyed the woman. He had never seen someone like this come aboard. Most of the souls he took care of were peaceful here and overall pleased with where they were and that they had finally reached the promised beyond. She, however, seemed depressed and upset and slightly desperate. But for what? Wasn't this the attitude that people had in the Locker? Not here. “Vari’s sister? She never…,” he paused and studied Keyara again. “Take you to who?” he asked warily, cocking his head to the side. There were many “hes” here, but which one did she want to go to? Keyara Pierce, huh? The name did seem familiar now that he saw her. She… hadn’t she been the one with… him? He had heard rumors about this girl but at the time nothing but the safety of Elizabeth and the rest of the pirates and their cause for justice had mattered. Suddenly, Will realized who this was and he eyed her, wondering why it was him who had to deal with such a woman. He waited for her reply.

Edward brushed the hair out of his face and kept his eyes on Beckett as he sat down a few feet from the house in the rain. He couldn’t help but feel pity for the man; he had no friends here, no one to lessen the pain of an eternal punishment. However, he had sealed his own fate; the unspeakable things he had done in life… the betrayals and lies were the reason he was here, no doubt. And rightly so. Edward took one last glance before entering the house behind Norrington and joining him at the rickety table. “Of all people,” he breathed in disgust, dropping onto the wooden chair. “…Real fine punishment spendin’ forever with him…”

-----------

Richard knew exactly what Cole was saying and could sympathize with the younger man on a deep level. They had both lost the women closest to them, and both had probably moved on by now. Rich couldn’t help but think of Vari… ten years was a long time - not to mention now she had this Edward Blackhaven to take care of her. His gaze drifted to his right, where a light, far off in the distance could be seen. With a gentle tug on Cole’s sleeve, he spoke, “d’ye see that? Looks like a… house, aye? Never noticed it before… ’course I’ve spent most of my time inside…” Intrigued, the older man stood and began walking towards the shack, unaware that the very man who had murdered him ten years before was sitting only meters away.

[[Thought I’d bring Cutler, Cole & Rich together so that eventually Rich can meet up with Edward and chaos can ensue… not to mention Cutler was the one who sent him to his death anyway, so there could be tension there. :P Hope that’s alright with you Pieds.]]

-----------

Joanna placed a hand on Lotty’s shoulder. “Why don’t ye change and settle down fer now… no tellin’ how long the storm’ll last. A change of surroundings might do ye some good.” She walked out of Deanne’s tent, motioning for Lotty to follow, and made her way back to her own tent. At least Charlotte would offer some company for Joanna until she could search for Keyara the next morning. In all truth, Isla Tratrante was closed off from the rest of the Caribbean, it seemed, even the world. Seldom was it that traders bearing news arrived there, and it could be lonely at times. Perhaps in the morning Lotty would consider the idea of allowing Joanna to tag along, wherever her destination was. Adventure was something the blonde had not seen in years. Maybe it was time to leave this life behind her and bring to life her pirate days once more.

-----------

Keyara took two steps forward as Will stepped back, looking imploringly into his eyes. She knew by now he had recognized her and the expression on his face was not what she had expected. “Where is Lord Beckett?” Keyara felt the desperation building - he had died, and this was where men who died at sea came, correct? He had to be here… somewhere… “Mr. Turner - I ask not of you to befriend or even trust me, only to take me to wherever he may be. For if anyone, you understand most what it is like to be parted from the one you love…” she stroked his face seductively; “…namely, a certain Elizabeth Turner…”

-----------

[[Saved the best for last. :bones: ]]

Daviel, who had been conversing with Mr. Gibbs, turned away abruptly at Carmon’s worried voice. “What’s wrong?” He inquired, running to meet her halfway across the deck. He hardly noticed the boy standing at her side, concerned if Carmon was all right.

----

Vari hardly had time to react before she felt Joe’s lips connect with hers. For moments, she couldn’t breathe… she couldn’t think straight either. All logic was forgotten as Vari slammed him against the wall in the same position he had been only moments before and feverishly returned the kiss, hands buried deeply in his thick brown hair. It had been forever ago since she had released all of this tension building inside; forever ago since she had any… pleasurable company. Edward had faded from her memory, at least temporarily, as she deepened the kiss and pressed tighter against Joe, the body heat created between them sending shivers down her spine. She could only begin to imagine what he could offer… the dark promises what laid beneath… Breaking the kiss suddenly, she breathed into his ear; “My cabin - now, savvy?”

[[Yay for Jari! It was either that or Voe… take your pic. :P And I think this is some of the most PG-13ish stuff I have ever written… :erm: Hope you aren’t too uncomfortable with this part… Even if they do go that far we don’t have to write it...]]

Kayala sighed as she entered after Edward and shut the door after him. "Anything we can do to get rid of him?" She asked, her voice filled with Disgust for Beckett.

(NOOO! This isn't dead! Never!)

James chuckled bitterly to himself at Edward’s words. It did seem rather ironic. Actually it had the air of something out of a storybook or something. An old fable maybe. Or maybe a nightmare. Aye, a nightmare might be the best way to describe it. Or what about reversed Justice even? As these ideas ran through his head like the rain pounding down outside, James remained where he was. How was he going to spend the rest of his life, or rather death? How did he even get here, how did James Norrington end up with a fate like this? He had been a respectable, good citizen his whole life. He had been fair… except for that one time. He sighed. You could do good your whole life, but do one bad thing and it marks you. All of a sudden no one cares about the good. James looked up at Kayala and shook his head saying, “there’s no point. He’ll leave soon enough.”

_________

Cole’s attention was caught and he looked to where Rich was looking. “Aye, I do notice it.” He wondered if perhaps it was a mirage. The Locker was a strange place, for sure. Maybe this was all just an illusion anyway. Who knew. He cautiously followed Richard, he wasn’t quite as sure of that place as the older man seemed to be. While walking, Cole had an uneasy feeling, of course, lately in this place that didn’t seem uncommon. But still, he couldn’t help but feel wary of whatever was ahead. He quickly caught up to Rich, “do you think this is the smartest thing to do? If you don’t know what that is… and it’s dark, we’ve got no weapons.” he stopped, raised his eyebrows and waited for Richards reply.

(lol, great idea! I love chaos! :P And so many different plotlines and agendas going on at once too… sorta like PotC. :D)

____

Cutler Beckett, who was just a few feet away from the two men, never heard them in the downpour. Although he was increasingly aware of Edward’s eyes on him for a few minutes. Let the pirate stare, he thought, you’ve got nothing to hide from. This is simply a… mistake. You were never meant to come here. Surly Turner or whoever is captain of the Dutchman now would come and have to let you out. Just keep watching that horizon. Cutler was completely absorbed in his own thoughts of freedom within a few moments.

_____________

Lotty forced a smile for the woman, but inside she was still uneasy. She didn’t want to be here now, what about Cole? What was he doing? What if he was out on the sea in this storm? “Aye,” she finally consented while trying to shush her nerves. She quickly followed Joanna into her tent, trying to get as little wet as was possible. Once she got there she went and changed into the dress offered her. Maybe it will calm your thoughts and nerves, she told herself as she slipped the white, clean dress over her drenched head, it might do you some good just like Joanna said. In the morning she could leave this place behind and maybe come out better acquainted with the people so she could go there to trade for goods occasionally. And Cole would probably like to meet them as well, she thought with a smile.

_______________

Will quickly pulled away from Keyara’s touch and glared at her. What was she thinking? Was she playing him like so many other people Beckett had played in the past? No, that would not happen now. “It is not for me to answer that question.” he stated coolly. Deep inside he knew what she must be going through. The pain of losing a loved one was something he had felt more than once with Elizabeth. He continued to watch her warily. Finally he said, “no doubt you two will find each other again.” before walking away. They were made for each other, that was for sure, he thought. They were too similar. He shook his head then realized that he felt what Davy Jones must have felt. Upset, anger, grief, everything. Keyara would see Beckett again, probably soon even if perhaps it wouldn’t be where they wanted to meet each other. He, on the other hand, would have to wait ten long years for Elizabeth. Destiny was a cruel thing, but he was determined never to become the monster Jones succumbed to in the end.

_____________

“Joe and Vari,” Carmon pointed below. She was surprised that she hadn’t heard a gun fire yet, which would be undoubtedly the signal of Vari killing Joe. “They’re below and… I think they’re going to kill each other. Joe kissed her, Daviel.”

__

Joe was in complete and utter shock by Vari‘s reaction. In her sudden intensity, his hand slipped from the pistol he had been holding and plunked to the floor. He continued to return her kiss, of course, but not with quite so much passion as Vari showed. He thought with time perhaps the shock would wear away and he would be able to enjoy his sweet victory like he aught. But it didn’t and he couldn’t help but feel that this must be a trap, in a moment, he realized, the hunter had quite possibly become the huntee. But he had still won, right? If this wasn’t a trap he had even seduced Varianna Pierce to his will. It was almost the ultimate win, right? If he hadn’t been so concerned for her sanity and if he hadn't been otherwise occupied with her, he would’ve taken several long minutes to pat himself on the back. That all was… if this wasn’t a trap. The nagging voice kept coming to his head and he wished he could shut it up somehow. He leaned away from Vari when she finally broke off so he could look her in the eyes to see if this was a game or if this was real. The small space between them didn't last long, however, but it was long enough for Joe to be able to tell. And when he heard her voice in his ear he grinned.

(I like Jari. yeah, I know… no not too much… and it gives me time to write down Joe’s thoughts. Lol nah… Daviel to the rescue!!! :P)

[[Alrighty, just making sure. :P ]]

Edward leaned back in the rickety chair and chewed on his lower lip thoughtfully. He wondered if perhaps this was all some terrible dream gone awry. Death was supposedly said to be eternal happiness, but this was surely the opposite now that Beckett had arrived. And although he didn’t like seeing anyone left out in the cold, rainy night, that so-called “Lord” definitely deserved it - perhaps he’d even be struck by lightning and… oh wait, we’re already dead…so much for that idea. But why did he have to pick them to bother with? Why not someone else? Surely there were other people in the Locker, right? It was probably just a weird twist of fate. With an awkward silence setting in, it was only when his stomach growled that Edward remembered how ravenously hungry he was. “Aye then… what say we eat now, Kayala?”

-----------

Richard turned back to Cole with a toothy grin, “Probably ain’t the smartest thing, but we’re already dead, so what does it matter? You need to loosen up boy; take some risks for once in your life… or rather, afterlife.” He mussed Cole’s hair, and with a chuckle continued over the small dunes at a turtle’s pace. It seemed like forever until they were finally standing only a few feet in front of the lit shack. To Rich’s far left was the outline of a man, sitting in the wet sand not ten feet from the abode. He couldn’t help but wonder who the man was, or for what reason he wasn’t inside, out of the rain. “Hey, you,” he called out to the figure, listening carefully for some sort of reply.

[[ :teehee: I know! It’s so great… and now they’re all pretty much beginning to merge, just like the movies and how they start out with different things, just to come together and form a larger picture. ;-) ]]

-----------

“There now,” Joanna said, pulling back the covers of her own cot. “You can sleep there tonight… It’s not the most comfortable, but you get used to it over time, I suppose.” She stacked a pile of books neatly on a wooden crate next to Keyara’s old cot. “Tomorrow we’ll get you some supplies so you can be on your way, so long as the storm’s cleared up,” she mused aloud, picking up a cracked hand mirror. She pulled the tie from her hair, letting the curly blonde tresses fall amongst her shoulders. It was odd not seeing Keyara at this time of night and Joanna could only hope that nothing bad had happened to her. Sure, Lotty wouldn’t have anything to do with her, but Joanna refused to choose sides.

-----------

Keyara followed Will, like a puppy who wanted attention. Did he honestly think he would get rid of her by walking away and pretending as though she never existed? Of course not - she couldn’t be wished away that easily, although many people in her life had wanted it so. That was why no one really cared that she had gone missing or minded her being stuck on a tiny island with Joanna and those other brainless traders. It was a sad thought, to be sure, but Keyara could care less what anyone thought of her right now. She needed to see him again, at least once more. “The matter of Cutler’s location is still in question, Mr. Turner. Certainly, you realize that by taking me to him, you’ll not only have me off of your ship, but you would not see me for the rest of… eternity? It is but a simple favor I ask of you… my dying wish, if you will. I would expect you to honor that.” She looked imploringly at Will, inwardly vowing to never stop bothering him if he didn’t take her to Cutler.

-----------

[[Lol, I loved that last Carmon post… Especially about the gun firing… lol And I have to remember to bring Jérôme back in at some point… :erm: ]]

For a moment, Daviel wasn’t sure he had heard Carmon correctly. It took him a few moments to register her words, and even then he wasn’t sure of what she had said. “He what?! Are you sure, Carmon?” He searched her eyes to see if this was some sick joke. Joe kissed Vari? What sort of madness was going on? “This isn’t some… - sort of prank… did Jack set you up?” This couldn’t have been true - he was sure of it.

-----------

Vari caught the grin Joe responded with, deciding to take it as a yes. She pulled him close to her and began to undo the strings of his white chemise, feeling more sinful than ever before. Her lips collided with his once again, this time her movements were slower; her touch, more feather-like and soft. Sure, she had seduced her fair share of men into spending the night with her in the same way Joe had probably done with other women, but this… this was like no other feeling she had ever experienced. Their hate for each other seemed to fuel the passion between them, and Vari found that she simply couldn’t get enough. Bracing her hands on his shoulders, she moved her lips to his neck, kissing and nipping at his skin gently. Never in a million years did she think something like this would happen between the two alleged ‘enemies’, but it was happening and it was wrong, even if to Vari, it felt so right.

[[Not too much further… although this is sorta fun. Mwahawhaw! :bones: ]]

Fifteen men on a dead man's chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
Drink and the devil had done for the rest
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike
The bosun brained with a marlinspike
And cookey's throat was marked belike
It had been gripped by fingers ten;
And there they lay, all good dead men
Like break o'day in a boozing ken
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

(^I've never heard the full version of that song. :P)

James sighed and mentally wrinkled his nose at the thought of food right now. Being in this place for a whole day wasn’t something he necessarily wanted to celebrate, which is exactly what eating and drinking felt like. He got up saying, “I’m sorry I must excuse myself. I don’t have much of an appetite tonight.” he forced a polite smile which quickly faded as he realized there was no point in smiling. He walked to the window and watched the rain come down. What is the point of eating in this place anyway? You can't die if you didn’t eat and it probably wouldn’t help much if you did eat. He didn’t know if he would have an appetite for food again. It was almost as if he could still feel the pain of the spike which was driven into his stomach, making is stomach turn at the very idea of food. He shuddered.

Cole stopped and thought over Rich’s words, pulling away as Richard mussed his hair. He ran his fingers through it, letting the older man move on without him for a minute as he looked down at the wet sand. He furrowed his brow, letting Richard’s words settle in his mind. He was true, of course, they couldn’t die anyway, but it wasn’t his nature to be free and to not worry about at least something. Cole looked back up and squinted through the rain at Rich’s form which was quickly disappearing. He looked back almost longingly at the little cabin they had left. This is foolish, he thought to himself, foolish and… he stopped. Rich was right, he was dead now. What was the harm, right? Cole pushed himself back into motion, however he was cautious. He wouldn’t stumble into something stupid just because he was already dead. In a minute or two, he came jogging up to Richard just as the other man yelled out to an object on the beach. Cole jumped at Rich’s voice piercing the dark, dreary night. He looked warily towards the object a few feet away.

Cutler jumped out of his thoughts and quickly stood up, whirling around as he did so. His hand was on the pistol he kept in his coat pocket. He scanned the darkness through the downpour. He noticed two figures through the rain, he didn’t make a sound. His pulse quickened, he hadn’t even stopped to think that he was in the Locker… that he was already dead. So many people in the Real World wanted him dead, what if these were two of them?

(:teehee: yep. It ish exciting!)

Lotty smiled at Joanna‘s kindness. “I’m sure I’ve slept in worse,” she said, trying to sound light and un-worried. It was the least she could do for her kind hostess. she didn't want to burden a half stranger with her troubled thoughts, “thank you.” Lotty nodded quietly at Joanna’s words, inside she was hoping and praying with all that was in her that this storm would pass. She didn’t want to be away from Cole any longer than was possible. Lotty gently sat down on the cot and watched Joanna, while losing herself in her own musings.

Will stopped and sighed, not even turning around for a minute or two. He knew Keyara had been following him before she had even talked. After a moment of contemplating what to do with her, Will turned around and said, “you are my job. I need to take you to where you belong. I can’t take souls to wherever they wish. I do my job. I am sorry, Ms. Pierce, but I can’t help you there. I can‘t take you to where Beckett is.” He gave her an unwavering, serious look, making sure she understood him clearly. Inwardly, he wondered if perhaps he should ask his father to take Ms. Pierce to a cabin and maybe even lock her in it. That was, if she didn't get the message. He hoped she would be happy enough that now she could rest and lose her worries like the other people he picked up, and unlike him.

____________

(yep! And I’m glad you liked it, Ara… :teehee: )

“Yes,” Carmon nodded her head, seriously but urgently, “yes, Daviel!” She made a face at the mention of Jack and quickly replied with, “no, he didn’t. Daviel…” here eyes were wide and urgent. She stepped away from him and looked at the hole leading to the lower deck, waiting for him to take action.

(Ahem, and on the other point… I shall make no response. ;))
