Hannah looked back again. She closed her eyes and continued running, although she knew it was probably too late. The yellow smog continued coming quickly up to them. "No..." she said with her last strenght, pulling herself together to run. I...don't want...to die...not...today...not here...no...no...no..."

Roy, too, was past fighting the gas. The last thing had been his hand, frantically searching for the gun... and now he was paralyzed. His eyes glared hatred at this unearthly being, as he made one last vain attempt to struggle, wrench himself loose from this terrible hold it had.

Even though his speech was slurred and incomprehensible, he cursed this being loudly, the first time he had ever done so.

It was the first time for many things- and for a vague, and uncertain moment, Ariel began to see what she had done in taking the gun. And she knew, she had to keep running, she had to get the rest of them out, she knew she had to think clearly for a moment.

It was then she saw the entrance, the vent from the sewer to the outside world.

"Come on!" she said hoarsely, her throat tingling from the spray, "We need to get out there!" Although it was a struggle for her to do so, she put an arm around Rachel and guided her towards the light, half running, half stumbling.

Once she looked back- directly behind them where Kai and Hannah, but Roy and Jimmy where no where to be seen.

A delicate ray of light, so clean and innocent, so beautiful and undefiled; was shining out of that vent. It was what Ariel fixed her gaze on.

Hannah looked up. Light from outside fell into the dark sewers. She smiled softly and sadly. It seemed like the light at the end of the tunnel leading her into a better place. Hannah felt that her arms and legs began feeling numb, but she didn't care. She knew that she soon would be out of the sewers, safe for a little time. She stumbled the way long with Kai, only a few meters, she had to hold on only a few meters, then she could see sunlight again.

Kai felt the gas begining to lick his legs. "NO DAM.MIT" he snarled, pulling Hannah up thought he gap and out into the blessed sunlight, then dropped her and pulled a peice of coragated metal over the hole...maybe the Jimmy and Roy were trapped now, but he, Hannah, Areil, Rachel and Mark were safe at least for the moment.

He stumbled back to Hannah, who lay where he had left her, and collapsed with his head on her chest.

Hannah opened her eyes and saw into bright sunlight. She closed them again and began to cry. She felt Kai near hear. "Thank you..."she sobbed, running her fingers through his hair. "I...I would have never gone so far without you...you...you helped me so much...so...much..." Then her head fell to the side, and she slowly drifted into a dreamless sleep.

Kai felt her fingers brush lightly though his hair, and his eyes closed as if in pain. As she drifted into sleep he pulled her hand down and kissed each perfect finger, caked with grime, then ;et it fall acroose his own chest. "I love you" he sighed, before slipping into sleep himself.

Rachel lay on the ground, gulping in the cool air. Her limbs were still numb, but once she had gotten outside the tunnel, feeling had started coming back to her body. In the frantic rush to get out of the tunnel, she had lost her grip on Mark's hand.
Rachel sat up slowly, cautiously. "Mark?" she said. "Are you here?"

Zrglst pulled out a special metal net and bagged his catch. He then whispered, "Now for the rest...." and began charging for the exit where everyone had gone out, screaming insanely.

Rachel suddenly sat up, wide awake. She heard the sound of the alien rushing down the tunnels, letting out a wierd shrieking noise. "It's coming." she said.

Ariel was sweating, and kept glancing warily at the gun she had taken. It was over- she had done her duty, done what Roy asked her. Now she could take her life and be done... leave this horror.

But she didn't. What kept her from it, perhaps no one will ever know.

"Don't run," she said hoarsely to Rachel. "Wake the others kid," she added to Mark, "...but don't run till I give the cue, or you're dead."

Under the net, Roy tried to keep his mind off what would happen to the others. There wasn't much to distract him though- just waiting for the alien to come back and kill him. Heck, he couldn't even talk... much less escape.

Pocket knife, he thought wearily. No good to me now, cn't move a finger.

Kai awoke with a start and sat up alert at once. he calmed when he saw it was only Mark. He smiled "My sister died to save you didn't she. I swear she will not have died in vain." he shook Marks hand. "I would be please if you could tell me of her some time." He let go and turned bac to Hannah, shakeing her awake. "I'm sorry...we have to move again." he stood up and came over to Areil "Why do you have Roy's gun." he asked calmely
