Brendon stepped out of the kitchen. He looked over the railing at the first floor. He saw movement, then heard the shout of an upcomming mob. He bolted for the stairs aiming for the door. He fired a warning shot, then turned to face a girl as the mob's shouts faded into the distance. "Who are you?" He asked

Bret followed Shonnalen, glancing back at the girl. He had been happy to stand back and let the older woman deal with the incident. "How far is the hospital?" he asked, catching up with Shonnalen.

Ace stared at the guy with the gun. What IS it with these people?! She thought to herself. She took a small step back, eyeing the gun. "I'm a person. What do I look like?" She stated sarcastically. "Who are you?"

"Couple blocks." Shonnalen said as she turned another corner.

Suprised by her mistrust Brendon let out a bark of laughter. "I'm Brendon, and I live here along with my sister and several others." He glaned back up at the second floor. "You hungery? I just made some oatmeal for Trudy... my girlfriend.... it's pretty much the only thing we can find plenty of." He smiled and tucked his gun back into it's hiding place. "There now you can quit looking like I'm gonna shoot you, cuz I'm not."

Ace turned slightly red in the face, finally adding color to her previous just-saw-a-ghost white. Her stomach rumbled, but what was new with that? It was always rumbeling, and she was probably the only one that could hear it. "I'm not hungry." She didn't quiet trust a stranger's food. Besides, she had a few power bars in her sack that she'd found. Still keeping her faced masked from any sign of emotion, she looked around her sourroundings.

Brendon cocked an eyebrow hearing her stomach growl. "Suit yourself... I know I am. Oh and if you want to stay ... rooms are on the third floor, you'll have to use the stairs, elevator brokecouple months ago. pic one of the rooms that's not already occupied." He turned and headed back up the stairs where he fixed two more bowls and sat down to eat one of them.

Realizing the people here were not of the mean type, she decided to stick with them for a while. "Hey, wait up.. where are you goin..?" She jogged after him and caught up, and sat down near him to watch him eat, and fianlly convinced herself that it was not poisoned. "Aren't you going to bring one to Terry... or whatever her name was?" She eyed the third bowl, wondering who it was for, and trying not to look like she was looking at it.

Bret nodded and shifted his duffel bag again. After a couple more minutes, he could see the hospital come into view.

Alan, hearing an unfamiliar voice, came into the kitchen. He saw a woman sitting at the table, staring at a bowl of oatmeal. <i>She's pretty cute.</i> he thought. Pulling out a chair near her, he sat down and pushed the bowl towards her. "You can go ahead and eat if you want." he smiled at her.

((just to let y'all know, Alan might be a jerk, but he won't rape Ace or anything. lol))

Brendon looked up and saw her glance at the bowl. "Trudy's already got her's, I'm eating mine, that bowl over there's yours if you want it." He straightened, "I'm Brendon, I think I mentioned that earlier, that's my girlfriend Trudy." He pointed to the other girl seated at the table. " And my sister should be back shortly, her name's Shonnalen... So ... what's your name or should I just pull one out of the air?" He asked playfully trying to get the new girl to relax a little more.

"And I'm Alan." he said, hoping to get the girl to notice him. He continued to smile- an action that didn't come naturally to him.

"Uhh... thanks." She figited for a minute and took a small bite. She nodded at Brendon, then at Trudy, and just stared at Alen for a moment, the swallowed the food. "You can call me... uh... Ace... is what I go by..." She trailed off, and feeling slightly awkward, ate another bite of oatmeal, silently thanking Brendon for the food. She knew he made more bowls then was needed on purpose, and wasn't about to give it away, but was very tankful to him for that.
She felt uncomfortable with everyone seemingly watching her, and was about ready to swipe that obveously fake smile off Alan's face. She took a deep breath. Calm yourself Rachel... she said to herself... you're nervous. Don't bite anyone's head off for stupid things...

"Ace," Alan repeated, "that's a cool name. Is it short for anything?"

Ace stared at her food. "No." Was the short reply. It had been a nickname given to her by her father... before he was murdered. She never used her real name now, but the alias. It was safer. Her eyes reflected her deep thoughts as her mind wantered back to her parents.

"O-kay." Alan said, raising his eyebrows. The new girl might be cute, but she was pretty quiet.

Ace emptied her bowl rather quickly. All she'd had that past few days were those darn energy bars. She'd found a full stash of them, and her bag was stuffed. Her keen eyes picked up everything around her as she took an inventory of the room she was in. "How long have you been here?" She asked quietly, beginning to relax enough to be curious.
