Airithnu stopped quickly, turning and baring her teeth at the sight of three huge Carberus, and she was suddenly glad to see Kith come up beside her, but she dare not show fear as she hunched her shoulders high and growled low, to show she wasn't afraid and she meant business.

Kith growled. Contrary to what people liked to think, animals did not communicate with any form of speech. Their communications consisted of actions, body postures, and Kith was full blown alpha male. His ears were forward, his teeth bared, the fur on his back bristled. Everything about him said "This is my territory. Leave me alone or I'll hurt you." The cerberuses responded with the same motion. They were not willing to give up the kill and leave. With a growl the biggest of the three stepped forward. He was slightly smaller than Kith, but the Shapeshifter knew his extra heads made him three times as deadly. Kith growled, once more, hoping to intimidate the cerberuses, but to no avail. A small pale grey cerberus howled, the sound of three voices coming from one body sending chills down Kith's spine. They advanced slowly, prefering to scare off thier competetors instead of fighting. Snaps and rustles echoed softly through the trees. More cerberuses, at least 12, filtered through the woods to join thier packmates. Kith growled once more, then shifted shapes to his favorite, a large black panther. In this shape he had several advantages over the three headed wolves: he could see in the dark, he was far larger and stronger, more agile, and three times as fast. The cerberuses, on the other hand, had sheer numbers. There would be no way he could attack and kill all these wolves without help.

Firis leapt off of the tree, landing hard on the ground, her ankle making a weird snapping noise.

Meridian. Here. Now. Her mind voice was strained. Meridian slid to his feet and ran fluidly to her side.

The eggs. We have to watch the eggs. Firis nodded and scrabbled ungracefully onto his back, he moved to the eggs side, wrapping himself around the small hollow where they were placed. Firis retrieved her bow and arrow, and fitted a small arrow to the bow.

Airithnu's ears perked up as she knew the cerberus' had reinforcements. She cursed and it came out to be a low growl as Kith shifted into a panther. She knew she had to protect the eggs...they were her main priority...but she knew she couldn't kill them all, even with Kith's help. The eggs kept drifting back into her mind and she glanced at Kith and she tried to speak to him in her head. She thought that since they might have both carryied an egg, that maybe they had bond that would allow them to talk.

Kith. She said, hoping he could hear her. We have to protect the eggs! We cannot let any harm come to them...we have to lead the cerberuses away... She told him. She had an idea...a plan. One that just might work.

Adillya remained leaning against the side of the tree. Defensive fighting was nearly always what she perferred. There were rare occasions in which she would jump straight into offensive, but, as I mentioned, those were rare.

Bry, on the other hand, differed to her in this, while understanding she viewpoint. Turning his head to Adillya, he hinted at asking her if they can fight.

You can if you want to, she responded with arms crossed and a continual stare at the wolves to make sure they didn't conduct any surprise attacks.

Not wanting to disturb Adillya from her gaze, Bry took it literally as a "yes" and flew up into the air circling around the wolves.

Airithnu couldn't wait for Kith's answer. She prayed that he heard her, and that he would follow her lead. She almost didn't follow her own plan, but as she felt the presense of another egg crarrier in the air and it gave her confidence. She prayed the others would understand what she was doing, for she knew it was foolish, but nessasary.

With one deep breath, Airithnu let out a loud challedging bark and she leaped into the air, teeth bared and she jump on purposly over two of the beasts, but snapping in there ears a challedge for battle and she landed behind them on all fours and she broke out into a fast run into the forest. Her only possible flaw is that the cerberuses didn't follow her in pursuit, or that they killed her in the process.

A presence grated up against Kith’s thoughts. He immediately through up walls to protect his mind, but the presence was not cruel or conniving. He lowered his barriers in time to hear Arithnu say “We have to lead them away from the eggs!” She leapt away from him, challenging the Cerberuses to give chase. About a third of them did, but the rest stayed to guard Kith and their kill. Kith clenched his jaw and made a quick decision. Shifting into a wolf, he put all his concentration into making himself as long and fast as possible. Barking a challenge, he charged into the forest. Another third of the pack gave chase, but still 4 stayed to keep watch over the kill.
He easily over took Arithnu’s pursuers. He grinned a wolfishly at Aritnu as he pulled even.. Leaping over a fallen log, he looked back. They had slowed to allow the Cerberuses to keep up (the three headed wolves may be fierce, but they weren’t quick). He howled triumphantly.
Howls in front of him answered back, the howl of three headed wolves. He pulled short as a dozen and a half Cerberuses lopped to surround Arithnu and Kith. Kith cursed. These were rich hunting grounds, but to have this many members in a pack?

Airithnu stopped quickly and noticed Kith beside her and she heard the howls the beast and they surrounded them. She cursed and used foul words that no woman should use, if they were considered a lady, but right now Airithnu was an wolf and didn't care. She was really glad to have Kith standing beside her and she hoped to live to tell him so. She looked at the Cerberusus in front of her and Kith and guessed it was the leader of the pack. She growled low and put one paw forward and lowered her back, going into defense but putting forth an challedge. She had to protect the eggs.

Kith growled, low and softly, then shifted. His wolf body grew, his muzzle shortened and broadened, and his thick grey hair turned dense, short, and black. Fierce yellow eyes gleamed from beneath his black panther brow. The scenery around him became clearer, less concealed by the night. As a cerberous advanced, Kith pounced, his weight bearing the wolf to the forest floor. In typical jaguar form he grabbed the back of the neck with his teeth, crushing bone and spinal collumn. The central head went dead, but the heads on either side were alove, and angry. One nipped Kith, drawing blood. He immediatly with drew and lept into a tree, out ot the reach of the cerberouses. These thisngs would be hard to kill: three brains (however small they were) three necks, three windpipes...his panther form may have been helpful for one cerberous, but for this many, pure, brue force was needed. He lept to the ground, shifting as quickly as he could to a shape he vaguely remembered from his boyhood. They were great beast that he somtimes saw when his tribe neared the savvanah. Kith grew: it was a strain to put on that much bulk. Ears enlarged, his nose lengthened. Black hair seeped into his body to be replaced by thick leathery skin. His insiscors, short and sharp as a jaguar, became monstrous tusks that jutted from his mouth. He was an elephant, large and angry. Kith swatted at a cerberus with his tusk: it collapsed under his force. Kith trumpeted a warning.

Airithnu grinned an vicious grin as she saw Kith shift forms of an Elephant. She was most violent in the form of an wolf, so she stayed that way and growled in triumph as Kith took down of the beasts. Then, she felt a sharp pain come back from her left side and down her leg and she turned her head. One of the beasts had come up behind her and bite her on her side, blood trickling down her dark black fur. She growled and twisted her body, bringing along more pain, and bit the Cerberous neck, deep and hard with her fangs. The Cerberous let go and howled in pain, but Airithnu held on strong, trying to use her front two paws to keep the other two heads away. She snapped the Cerberous head and broke his neck and the right half of the Cerberous went limp and feel toward the ground, distracting the other two. Airithnu took this bleesed chance and attacked the other two heads.

A familiar mind slid into Kith's thoughts: it was Rin. What's wrong? She asked anxiously. I could feel you through our link
Kith crushed a cerberus beneath his heavy feet. A cereberus latched on, but Kith's hide was tough, and the worlf barely drew blood.

Cerberi Kith responded. Stay with the egg, I will be able to take care of myself He said it with all the conviction he could muster, even though he knew he woudn't succeed in keeping Rin away.

No Rin replied, sounding vexed. The egg is safe with the others. I will come and help

Kith could feel her leap into the air and take flight. He trumpeted as a cerberus nipped his delicate underbelly. Charging at a group of cerberi, he grasped on with his trunk and sent it flying. A figure, as large as he was, crashed down through a gap in the canopy and grasped the cerberus with long, cruel talons. A sharp bite to the neck ended the three headed wolf's cries. Rinivel landed with a crunch, screaming in her eagle voice. A cerberus leapt, only to be beaten to the ground by her wing. With this new enemy, the cerberus were wary. They circled, thier numbers decreased by a fourth. Rin and Kith eyed them cautiously as Kith shifted to his black panther shape, moch more comfortable than the cumbersome elephant.

Airithnu stood back up, glad she had finally taken down a full Cerberous, but she felt her back leg begin to grow weaker. She cursed at herself for being so careless and letting herself getting into this weakened state, but she figured she deserved it, for she had let her gaurd down. She just hoped she could live to learn from this grave mistake.

Kith growled, pacing the circle of cerberi. Rin stood still as stone, glaring at the three headed wolves. Suddenly she feined the to right, scattering cerberi. Kith leapt at a particularly audacious wolf bit deep into flesh. He leapt back from the mortally wounded beast just as another wolf grasped on to his side. With a fierce swipe he dilatched the wolf, his wound sluggishly oozing blood. Rin screamed again, throwing her wings into the air. The wolves balked at the spectacle, considering weather they should attack or leave. They chose that latter, scurrying into the brush. Kith straigtened, shifting to human. He glanced at Arithnu, and was surprised to see her sway with weakness. We need to get back to camp Rin said gravely. Kith nodded. "Rin says we need to get you back to camp." He grabbed her around the waist and hoisted her, or at least tried to. Blinding pain stabbed his side. He staggered,pressing his hands to his side, and suppressing a yelp. Whhe removed his hands, they were covered in blood. Oh, little one.... Rin sighed. She grasped Kith in one talon, and Arithnu in the other. Hold on, shifters, we will be back soon enough She leapt into the air, her strong wings bringing them closer and closer to camp.

Airithnu was surprised to see all the three-headed beast finally back down but she was greatful, as Airithnu cursed as she automatically shifted back to her human form, as did Kith. She stood, swaggering, looking down at her left thigh, were her waist, hip, and thigh were all covered with blood. She cursed silently again and tried to tell Kith she was fine when he tried to help her but when she felt his strong hands around her waist, she gave no more protests as her heart leaped. Then, as her vision began to grow blurry, she heard a voice in her head, and felt talcons around her body...

Rena paced back and forth in front of the eggs nervously, listening to the sound in the forest. Howls, trumpets, rawrs, and screams. That was enough to put the thirtteen year old's nerves on end. She wasn't sure if it was fear or anger that had her pacing. Suddenly she heard something in the bushes, and then again on the other side of the camp. Then a growl from behind a tree. She went closer to the edge.

At that moment a small cerberous jumped out and knocked Rena over. It stood in the middle of the clearing, examining all the Chosen there, and then ran back into the forest. Quickly Rena recovered and got up. Barks and a howl could be heard in the direction the small cerberous had ran. Growling soon surrounded the clearing...

(So that Airtithnu and Kith aren't the only ones to get all the fun...)
