As Icefire lied on the taxi seat, occassionly having seizures, something happened his mind and, directly, his heart. His cynical selfish inner voice gained a mind and personality of its own. This new personality began battling the current one for the throne of Icefire's mind. As Icefire began slipping to blankness, the two personalities fought until the new one won. It took control of his mind and heart, hardening the heart in an attempt to relieve the mind from its sickness. Using whatever remaining energy left, Icefire located the toxin and froze it before it could seriously disable him. He managed to do this without Margaret, now just a stranger to him. In a strange voice, he demanded to the taxi driver to stop. Both Margaret and the taxi driver began to protest but Icefire was not someone to tolerate that. With his abilities now functional, he drew the thermal energy from the air and converted it into chemical energy that was require to fuel his powers. He froze the gasoline in the taxi's tank and got out. He then fused the door with the car, trapping the two people inside, and walked away from them. John Merrick officaly died that day; his body was only replaced by another mind, now known as Icefire.

Icefire walked along a street in a small town in New York, not too far from the manison. He saw very little reason why he should stay there. There, everyone wanted to use his powers for their own good. Actually now he thought about it: what powers? They all thought he was too powerful and wanted to bridle down his powers so he could be more easily controlled. In his rage of discovering this, he froze a fly from midair. Now, he had one goal: find Magneto and join his side.
