Elly finished up her last classes and hurried to her dorm to get changed before the assembly. She changed into a pair of jeans and a long black tank top. She slipped on her ballet flats and headed to the assembly. It was much more comfortable than her uniform, and the girls were allowed to change after their classes were over.
Elly's heart beat fast as she found a seat empty that was close to the back of the room. She sat down and waited.

Hailey ran back to her dorm to put her back away after her classes. She ran to the assembly and plopped down in an empty seat next to Elly.
"How yeah doin?" she asked...

Sunny walked Karma stoicly out of the stables to arena were the skills-test would be. Karma walked tall and proud with all the grace and more of the true Arabian she was. Sunny kept her face smooth of anxiety. "Leadership is the ability to hide your panic from others," she softly quoted to Karma. "We are leaders. We can do this." Karma snorted softly. Sunny smiled, "at least you can." Karma walked arrogantly on. "Show off..."

Sunny and Karma walked into the arena; receiving a nod from Miss. White Sunny mounted. Scanning the course she hurtles of varies sizes, a few barrels and a stretch of track at the end.

"Alrighty then," Sunny said grinning. "Let's show 'em how we boogy!" She lightly kicked Karma and they hurdled forward, bounding over jumps low and high with agility and grace. Karma sped around the barels. As the stretch came up Karma went all out: a dead run. Sunny didn't have to guide Karma much, mostly using her knees, but Karma knew what she was doing, in a way, she wasn't stupid.

As they came barrelling down the track toward Miss. White, the trainer showed nervousness on her face. Sunny pulled Karma up short which brought on a few unhelpful bucks. Sunny leaned down toward Karma's ear, "We need to talk about that." Karma snorted. Sunny nudged Karma and she pranced over to the gate.

"Well done," Miss. White praised. "I see a future in you and your... Middle-Eastern friend."

Karma snorted and stamped her feet; Miss. White didn't seem to notice. Sunny raised an eyebrow and said, "Why, you're monsterous kind, Miss. White!" in her best Southern-US accent.

Karma walked awat as Sunny started to dismount, which she anticipated would happen. She was used getting on and off of Karma while she was moving after she fell the first few times. She sighed as she started walking next to Karma. "Well," she said, "At least one of us knows what we're doin'!" She smiled at Karma and Karma nuzzled her shoulder. "But that buckin' was to perddee!" Sunny scoulded. "I think we will do alright, though."

Sunny took off Karma's sadle and tack and washed her down. With Karma washed down and everything put away, Sunny hugged Karma good-bye. "Now I gotta do the thunkin'!" With that she grabbed her messenger bag and headed for her dorm to change.

Elly smiled at Hailey.
"I'm very nervous," Elly grinned sheepishly. She adjusted her sitting position and watched as Miss White came onto the stage.

"Good evening, ladies." Miss White. After a rumble of 'Good Evening, Miss White' coming from the audience, Miss White began again. "Tonight I will be announcing who made it into the beginner, intermediate, and advanced equestrian unit. Please remeber that this was based on your skill as a rider, and how you deal with a new horse. If you are put into a unit that you think is incorrect, please, I do not want to hear about it. This was a very fair evaluation, and I'm sure my decisions are for the best. Please sit tight for a few more minutes until the announcement." Miss White smiled and got off the stage.

(I'm going to announce who made it....I threw in some names of non-rpg characters that are just there to fill up space.)

Miss White came back onto the stage with a list in her hands.
"Riders who made it into the beginner unit are either novice riders, or riders with not enough experience to be in a higher unit. These riders are: Ashley Parker, Liz Whittenberg, Jane Thomas, Kelsey Feller, Leyla Sanders, Korie Thrower, Lani Simmons, Jennifer Barnecky, Rebecca Starbin, and Priscilla Rite. Congratulations." Miss White smiled and flipped to another list.
"Riders who made it into the intermediate unit are very good riders, but still need to stick to lower courses until they are ready to jump high. These riders are: Katie Stromberg, Olivia Harte, Shelby Marzel, Christina Tucker, Danielle Yoshida, Felicity Huffman, and Jenna Hammond. Congratulations." Miss White wiped her forehead on the back of her hand and flipped to another list again.

Elly shivered. Her name hadn't been called. She either made it into advanced or nothing. But she didn't think that a student could be turned away...She scooted to the front of her chair, wringing her hands.

"At last, our advanced riders. You have shown me a lot of skill and talent. These riders are: Karen Millers, Vicki Armsten, Elizabeth Tanner, Maria Turner, Hailey Pattersin, Amy Weiss, Hannah Walsh, Samantha Burton, Elly Thompson, and Tessa Clark. Congratulations!" Miss White laughed and smiled at the girls.

Elly breathed in and sighed. She had made it into advanced! She smiled and told Hailey that she had done a great job. She turned back to Miss White. She still had something to say.

"Now, as all of you may know, there is a Junior Jumping Team here at Oak Ridge Stables. I have a list of girls who I think would do a fine job trying out. Anyone above the beginner unit can try out. Here is the list. Elly Thompson, Hailey Patterson, Vicki Armsten, and Hannah Walsh. I hope to see you in the tryouts. Good night!" Miss White walked off the stage and out of sight. Elly stood up and hurried to the cafeteria.

Rachel hurryed off. She walked over to Miss White. "Do you mind if I try out for the Junior Jumping Team. You know I was on the intermediate unit last year?Soccer got into the way becsue the coach what me to try out for JV, but can I still try out, please." She said trying to sound covning.

The Quiet A-U Gentlewomen

Hannah breathed a sigh of relief as they all left the gym the girls were talking about their ranks and such. Hannah hurried back to the dorm and pulled out her journal and wrote an entry. She then put on some old jeans and her boots.

She hurried down to the stables and found a horse running free on the road. She stopped grabed a head collar and walked to the stranded horse. She was a gorgeous dapple grey color and her coat was horribly dirty and her hoofes looked horrible.

Hannah walked over to her slowly and giving her words of encouragment. The mare seemed friendly but kind of back away. Hannah expected this and the mare eventually let her pet her head. Hannah walked away fomr the mare and she followed her into the schools paddocks. Hannah closed the gate and she was relieved that the horse was in good hands now. She looked slightly thin and she had a few scars on her body.

Hannah ran to find Ms. White. Once she found her she led her back to the stables and showed her the mare.

Ms. White was shocked. She told Hannah that she was good to bring her in to the stables and told her to put a head collar on her and lead her to one of the empty stalls. Hannah tried putting a head collar on the mare but she wanted nothing to do with it. Instead she followe Hannah into her stall.
Hannah gave the mare some fresh water and food.
The next day she would bathe her and groom her. Her and the mare seemed to have a bond somehow.

Hannah went to see Shadow and give him a groom and spend some time with him. She said goodnight to her horse and the mare and went back to her dorm.

Elly spooned the hot pasta onto her plate and grabbed a bottled juice drink from the redfriderator next to the food buffet. She sat down by herself and began to think about the JJT. Tryouts were in a week. She shrugged and ate her food. Her mind then wandered to Starlight. They would make a great team, once she was ready. Elly smiled to herself and went to get an apple from the buffet. She stuffed it in her jacket pocket, pushed her tray away, and stood up to go see the mare.

Starlight nickered at Elly as she came near. Her beautiful head hung over the stall, very different from her usual poition in the back of the stall.
"Come out of the dark, have you, Starlight?" Elly laughed and stroked Starlight's star. Her long forelock fell down in between her intelligent eyes as she lipped at the red juicy apple Elly held out for her.

Kayden finished up her dinner in the cafeteria and headed back out to the stables. She wanted to check on Diesel because he had tweaked his leg coming off a 3'9" oxer. Her footsteps echoed through the stable as she walked through the barn to her horse's stall. "Hey there boy. You feeling alright?" Kayden let herself in to Diesel's stall and ran her hand down his right front leg. She felt no swelling or bumps. "You're ok!" Kayden planted a light kiss on his muzzle and left his stall. She was heading back up to her dorm when she heard a noise coming from Starlight's stall. She poked her head in and saw Elly grooming the horse. "Hi Elly. How are you?"

Elly patted the mare and went to get a grooming box. She slipped inside Starlight's stall and began to groom the mare. The cuts and rain rot on her loins looked a little cleaner than before, but still, they weren't healed. Elly frowned and combed out Starlight's long mane. Elly looked up and saw Kayden smiling.
"Hey Kayden. I'm fine, just taking care of Starlight." Elly said. She smiled and bent down to pick Starlight's feet. Her legs were a little swollen, but they didn't seem to hurt her too badly. Starlight picked up her feet willingly and turned around to nuzzle Elly's back.
"Starlight," Elly sighed breathlessly. She looked back up at Kayden.
"Kayden, I heard Miss White can't teach tomorrow. Does that mean that you will teach?" Elly asked and patted Starlight's shoulder.

"Yeah. She came to me after the lesson. She's going to check out some potential schooling horses. So I"m going to teach. I'm gonna get the riders who are trying out for the team ready. It will be a good lesson." Kayden smiled.

"Maybe we'll get some new jumping prospects...That's always fun," Elly said smiling. She currycombed Starlight's back, careful to go around her cuts. She groomed her with a soft brush and talked to Kayden some more. "How's Diesel?"

"Yeah. There was another warmblood she was going to check out for me. She wants me to help train some of the new schooling horses and maybe look at getting me another jumper. Diesel's doing great. How's Starlight? Is her leg ok?" Kayden said with concern.

"I started taking care of her today. I usually jump Gracie, but I noticed Starlight's condition and Miss White wants me to get her back to her usual state, and then I'll train her to jump." Elly smiled and rubbed Starlight's neck.

Hailey jumped up when the assembly was over. She ran to the dorm to celebrate. She drank some root beer, and ate a chocolate bar. Then she went to the stable, and went to Pirate's stall.
"We did it, Pirate! We're in the advanced and have a great chance of getting on the JJT!" She said, while giving him a carrot or two, or three. He nickered when he stopped strocking his muzzle for a moment.
"Oh, you!" she said stepping in his stall, and giving him a hug. She rubbed her face against Pirates black mane, and started to cry quietly...

Elly slipped out of Starlight's stall and fingered through the medicine cabinet. There were all sorts of supplements, for joints, weight, mare and foal, and coat. She decided she'd ask Kayden tomorrow. She headed back up to her dorm and got changed into her pajamas. She nuggled deep under her covers and went to sleep.
