Shannon's eyes grew wide and then she quickly turned on a side street. She looked around the area franctically and bit her lower lip hard. She had to find something that would work. She just didn't know where she could find one.

What Shannon did not realize....was that there was no escape..... More squad cars were parked at the end of the street she had just turned on. The officers had stepped out of their cars and aimed their rifles at her.

Charlize's eyes widened in fear. She bit her lip hard and then looked to her left. She was on a bridge. "I'm sorry, Mort... I have to do this..." She whispered. She took a deep breath and quickly turned to the left and went straight through the wall and the car plummeted into the water.

The officers watched in awe as the green jeep plummeted into the water below the bridge.
"We need an ambulance on the scene.... and ambulance on the scene..." an officer shouted over his radio.
The helicopter hovered over the lake causing a mist of water to spray along the shoreline.

Charlize felt her whole body jerk forward, as a great force hit the front of the car. Charlize quickly took off her seatbelt, and climbed to the back of the car. She grabbed ahold of Mort and dragged him to the front of the car.
She slowly rolled down the windows and the water poured in. She took a deep breath and quickly swam out of the car. She swam as fast as she could underwater until she and Mort were directly under the bridge.
She then slowly took her and Mort's head out of the water and hit behind the concrete pillar that held the bridge up.

Mort's heavy body started slipping out of Shannon's grasp. His conscious state of mind was hearing the steady beat of the helicopter, the rising siren's from the nearing ambulances and the voices of officers above.

Ambulances could be heard arriving on the scene. The sqawking of radios were buzzing in the cool air. The helicopter flew a few feet away from the scene, but still was within range to see if there was any movement from the wreck.
In a flash, rescue workers were underwater searching for Shannon and Mort's bodies...hoping they were alive.
After a couple minutes of searching, they shouted up toward the police, "THERE ARE NO BODIES! NO BODIES!"
It then seemed as if a commotion of yells and orders were happening on top of the bridge. "Send them!" shouted an officer. Soon the loud barks of dogs could be heard. They slid down the side of the dirt embankment and began sniffing the ground.

Shannon's eyes widened and she grabbed hold of Mort's body in a tighter grip. She then went underwater again and swam underwater for as long as she could. She made sure to barely go to the surface, so she and Mort both could breathe.

Mort's head submerged from the water, he coughed, and started to become conscious of his surroundings. His head swam, and he couldn't open his eyes.

Soon the dogs caught the scent of Shannon and Mort's bodies along the top of the water. Unfortunately, Shannon did not know that a human's scent is easier for a dog to pick up near water.
The dogs ran along the shoreline and barked viciously at them. They did not enter the water but barked in their direction.
Thundering blades of the helicopter were heard, once again, above them. They had been spotted.

[Yeah, I know that. Shannon doesn't, though. ^^]
Shannon cursed under her breath and then sighed deeply. "I tried my hardest, Mort..." She said, softly and then swam toward the shoreline. She gently laid Mort down and then bit her lip. She looked up and saw the police officers there with their dogs.

Mort was coming out of his unconscious state, but very, very slowly. He heard the barking of dogs and thought to himself If Chico doesn't shutup I'll kill him....

Officers were aiming their guns as they leaned over the top of the bridge and over the steep dirt embankment. "PUT YOUR HANDS UP!" they all shouted at different times.
The dogs continued to bark and ran up the embankment and over the bridge to reach the other side with Shannon and Mort.
There was about twenty officers on the scene.

Shannon looked down to Mort sadly and then slowly raised her shaking hands up in the air. She felt tears reach her eyes, so she closed them immediately. If Mort found out all that happened, she knew that he would kill her.

One of Mort's eyes barely lifted open. It examined it's surroundings, but then closed again in annoyance from the sun and that annoying barking dog. "Chico! Shut your mouth!" he said aloud.
