Nightstorm made his final round. No other males had challenged him: it was time to take charge. Winter's idea is a good one. He said so all could hear. We should go there together. WE have all come from a loner's life. We now have enoupg for a pack. Who will join me?

Thank you. Nighstorm said. His voice was deep and gruff, but there was kindness behind it. Quicksilver took Shadowheart by the scruff of his neck and followed Nightstorm to the cave.

Winter looked sadly at the pup. I'm sorry. I did not though I would've liked to. I know it'll be hard but try to enjoy life. You will have a good home among us.

Nightstorm stood at the opening of the cave. just a few minutes ago he had been a loner, with only Quicksilver at his side. Now he had a pack. He shook his coat, sending the snow on his back flying, and walked back into the cave.
Quicksilver curled up and watched Shadowheart. The pup lost his mother young, but he'd survive. He was a strong. She watched as the little wof drifted to sleep. Standing up slowly, she walked over to where he lay and curled up next to him, sharing precious bodyheat.

Shadowheart opened his eyes and smiled at the one who protected him. He snuggled up against her warm fur and whispered, Thank you... before falling asleep again.
