Once again, Liam's narrowed as he heard Guinevere's words and watched her step back. For the second time that morning Miss Eliot proved to be untrustworthy, prejudiced and selfish. His face remained as emotionless as hers as he spoke: "Perhaps you did not agree to the bargain in words, but your deeds proved otherwise. You did follow me to the harbour. I held me to my word, now it's your turn to the terms."
Liam's head tilted slightly and he caught Guin's gaze. He could read her mind; see the longing in her eyes. She would be after the Interceptor, however impossible it was. She would never succeed alone, he thought and a smile appeared on his tanned face.
"Whatever my reward would be, you never meant to give it. If that's your way of treating people, than I will have nothing to do with you." Liam threw Guinevere a last condescending look, which also contained some disappointment, and then walked past here, back to Port Royal.

As Liam walked past her, Guin paused, her anger kindled. If she had been a person less trained in keeping her emotions hidden, she would have scowled, her brow creased with irritation. Like a shot she reached out and grabbed Liam’s wrist before he could walk completely away from her. She held on, resentful at having to waylay him, because, however much he had annoyed her, she did need his help, and she most certainly did want the Interceptor . Running through the correct words in her head, Guin tried to keep back her anger. It seemed that for him to help her, an apology was in order. “I’m sorry.” There, she had said it, however displeasing the words sounded to her. “I did not mean to offend you. It’s only, I need to get away from Port Royal. My reasons are my own, though you can probably guess them.” She spoke with immense dignity, keeping her pride. Realising that she still held his wrist, she let go and stepped back. Guin hated making apologies, but such was the situation that it had been necessary. “Think what you will of me, sir, but if you were in my shoes I rather think you’d do the same.”

Liam halted and slowly turned as Guinevere stopped him. Her slender, pale wrist contrasted with his dark skin, but he did not pull his arm away. He looked up at her, dubious if anything she would say would be worth hearing. Liam could see that emotions stirred within her but finally her rational thoughts seemed to have overcome pride as she made her apology. The apology was made without loss of pride, but her despair was evident as it made her call upon him, whom she seemed to have disliked from the beginning.
Liam remained silent for a moment but then spoke, in an emotionless tone: "I do not need your excuse Miss. I depended on your wordand I was mistaken to trust so quickly. You still did not prove why your word would be any more trustworthy than it has been. Why would I help you?"

[ I really don't hope you all mind! We're just having a bit of fun so you can keep all the rambling between them ]
"I did choose to help you, because I thought it was the best thing to do at that time. You know, after you tried to save me and all." Liam's lips curled up in a smile again and he threw Guinevere a playful look. There was a jingling sound of coins and Liam's eyes were drawn to Guinevere's purse. He watched how she took two shiny coins and offered them to him but he did not take them. "I would not dare to take your money, money of a helpless woman who's in desperate need to escape Port Royal."
He turned for a moment to the blue water and the horizon, far away. The sun glittered on the water, which seemed to emit sparkling glow just like the coins which lay in Guinevere's hand.
"I do not want your money," Liam said. "I do want your word. I will tell you what I had in mind as reward and it's up to you what you'll do with it." He paused for a moment and looked up at at Guinevere's face. "A kiss. A kiss from you."

Upon hearing Liam’s words, Guin’s expression swiftly changed from it’s former gravity; her cheeks flushed red with fury at the insolence of his suggestion, and her eyes round with genuine disbelief, she glared at him. “How dare you!” she exclaimed, eyes blazing. Instinctively, she reached out and slapped him across the face. The very impertinence of what he had said made her furious. She had captained one of the most fearsome ships in the Caribbean, and he spoke to her as if she was some simpering girl! The very fact that he had turned down her offer of paying him in gold made him a fool; what sane person would turn down so much money? But it was not even that that really mattered. The fact of the matter was that Guin hated being treated like he treated her. Slowly, stepping back, she looked at the red mark that appeared on his cheek, the mark that she had inflicted. Unexpectedly, she gasped. “Oh, I’m sorry!” she blurted out, overcome with an odd rush of guilt. “I didn’t really hurt you, did I? It was just an instinct…” She looked unbearably ashamed, and reached out her hand towards him, before she flinched back to cover her mouth in shock. “I’m sorry.” She had no idea why she was so shocked; after all, violence was nothing new for a pirate.

Only shortly after Liam had expressed his intention, all hell seemed to break loose. The quiet and well-behaved woman before him suddenly flushed and shouted. Before Liam fully realised what for effect his words had on Guinevere, her hand had already connected with his cheek. In utter surprise Liam took a step back to avoid a second, potential blow. His hand reached for the space she'd hit him which already turned red. As sudden as Guinevere had started yelling she became silent again, as if astonished by her own behaviour.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t really hurt you, did I?"
Liam could not believe his ears; her mood seemed to change like the wind, but than even faster. "I thought the intention of your action was to hurt me?" he retorted, still rubbing his hand over his cheek. "I've been beaten before, but never by a woman." He felt angry and insulted by her extreme reaction. In his eyes, he'd not offended her as much to justify her behaviour.
"Good Lord woman," he spat angrily. "One would think that you, being a pirate and all, who's used to violence and deceiving, can get over a simple kiss? You're the most prudent woman I ever encountered!"
Turning his back on her, Liam closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. After he'd regained his composure he added in a mocking tone: "But once again, Miss Elliot, you made yourself very clear..You seem to have no difficulties with that."

“For goodness’ sake!” Guin retorted, some of her former anger creeping into her tone. “What did you expect? I may be a pirate, but I still have my honour!” these last words she hissed; it wouldn’t bode well to declare yourself a pirate in public, in broad daylight. Taking a moment to regain her calm, she watched as he turned his back on her. “I’m sorry I hit you, but I think that your impertinent behaviour warranted such a reflex.” Her tone was calm and even now, she took a few more moments to completely regain her usual composure, before taking several steps forward to primly tap Liam on the shoulder. “You cannot remain indefinitely angry with me, sir. I apologised for hitting you – although I believe my anger was justified – and if you would accept my apology, perhaps we could put this irritating dispute behind us.” Peering round, she looked at the red mark on his cheek. “That really does look dreadful,” she commented briefly. Guin stepped back. She turned her back on him as he had done to her, awaiting his response, folding her hands neatly, her expression tranquil.

"Ah and since when do pirates have honour?" Liam replied sharply, not deeming it necessary to lower his voice over the word 'pirate'. He looked at Guinevere's back but did not speak anymore. It seemed to be no use for she seemed to be determined to negate everything he'd said or change her opinion every minute or so. Whether she was a pirate or just a Missus, Liam was thoroughly annoyed with the woman and his mind rebelled against him wasting any more time to understand her.
"Look lady," Liam started softly. "This has nothing to do with me accepting an apology or not, but with you asking for my help. But if my appearance or my character is so disgusting to you and my behaviour causes so much offence, than I believe it's better that our paths will split up from here and may not cross ever again.."

(Poor Guin… she’s not happy! Hope this isn’t too embarrassing… O_o Introducing in this post Cairbre, for a nice little love triangle! Tehe )
Guin did not reply to his question, even though it irritated her. What did he know about her? She listened silently as he spoke on. He was determined, she saw, not to change his mind. He would not specify a new bargain. “You are without doubt the most stubborn man I have ever met,” she said shortly, still not turning around to face him. He need not take her refusal so badly; why on earth should he be so offended? Her arms were folded loosely, but her hands gripped her elbows tight, her fingernails digging sharp into her skin. “Indeed, I do not think I ever met anyone as stubborn as you!” she blurted, anger overcoming her again. Slowly, she turned round to face him. She needed someone’s help. Someone had to help her find a ship, and it seemed that unfortunately, that someone was him. Finally, Guin decided most grudgingly that he could have his “reward”, but that she would make his life a living hell in every possible way from then on. “You had better get me the Interceptor ,” she warned him. Looking like an Amazon woman in her fury, she swiftly walked up to him. “Or else I swear you will regret the day you ever met me.” She leaned forward and kissed him, counting to ten in her head, before pulling away looking angrier than she had probably ever looked. “Goodness knows why it was so important to you!” she growled. “Captain?” At the familiar voice, Guin spun round. Her expression was one of amazement, her anger filtering away to be replaced by astonishment. The dark-haired man standing before her was none other than Cairbre Eagle , one of the officers of her old ship. The last time she had seen him had been on Tortuga on their last trip to the pirate haven to collect supplies, when he had decided to remain behind, for reasons unknown to both her and the crew. “Cairbre? What on earth are you doing here?” Guin said, incredulously. “I might ask you the same.” The man bowed over her hand, like a gentleman might salute a lady. His gaze flickered over to Liam, as if to measure the potential danger he posed to his former captain, who stood behind Guin. “Who is this man?” “Oh. This is…” Guin realized that she did not even know Liam’s name. She looked at him expectantly. “This gentleman is going to assist me in acquiring a new ship. Aren’t you?” Her smile was somewhat fierce, but her fury seemed to be gone.

[ oh my, I did not think that she would really kiss him And have you been plotting a love traingle yes? Hehe poor Liam, he won't be able to compete with a gentleman.. ANd who's Cairbre? I can't open the link.. I'm so curious! ]
Liam could not withhold a smile at her calling him stubborn. He'd heard it before and it was true. He was a man who knew what he wanted and he would get it, one way or another. People did not like him for that, but then, he was only liked by a few. She turned again, her brown-redish hair seemed to blaze in the sunlight and her eyes seemed to shoot fire. Liam realised that only this was a just a reason to tease her; Guinevere's anger made her look even more beautiful.
She walked up to him, leaned forward and their lips touched and Liam pulled Guinevere into a kiss. Abruptly she pulled away again and Liam couldn't help but remark with a grin: "Well, was that now so hard?"
Suddenly a stranger approached them on the docks, who was seemingly acquinted to Guinevere. Liam rolled his eyes on the exaggerated formalities he performed. Those seemed to be the typical manners which Miss Elliot would appreciate. The man looked too dandy to be a pirate or an officer, but Liam was more concerned with his behaviour towards himself, which he thought to be quite straight forward.
"Liam," he stated as he walked up next to Guinevere and lay a hand on her shoulder. "And yes, the Lady just convinced me to find her a ship."

(Here’s Cairbre! http://bp1.blogger.com/_f3mHwdbzQ3Y/RZy ... 3+copy.jpg His face is Matthew Macfadyen, the guy who plays Mr. Darcy! Aww, don’t worry, Liam! A little friendly competition won’t hurt )
Guin glanced at Liam as he put his hand on her shoulder. His mood seemed to have improved considerably. She could not help but note the standoffish manner in which the two men behaved towards one another. Cairbre was much more formal than most pirates; like her, he had been brought up as one of the nobility, but his path had taken him towards piracy. Still, he had never lost his gentlemanly manners. He could not be more different from Liam. “Well then,” Guin said. “Cairbre, this is Liam. Liam, this is Cairbre; he sailed as one of the officers on The Anne Boleyn ship.” Her tone was steady and formal, and she smiled at both of them politely. Cairbre nodded, still observing Liam. His gaze was not directly unfriendly but it was piercing. During his time working for Guin, he had been fiercely protective of her. “This man is going to find you a ship?” he enquired, raising a stately eyebrow. “ The Interceptor. ” Guin’s eyes gleamed. “Think of it! One of the fastest ships in the Caribbean.” For a moment her expression was unguarded and bright, and she looked at Liam with a smile, which quickly vanished when she realized that she was still supposed to be angry with him. “So. What are you doing in Port Royal?” she addressed Cairbre. “From Tortuga I caught a ship here. I’ve dwelt here these last months,” he replied. Still his gaze flickered back to Liam. “I must enquire, captain, are you entirely sure that your safety is secured in this operation? The Interceptor is heavily guarded. It can’t be taken by two alone.” His tone indicated that he also doubted Liam’s ability to carry out the task well enough, and that he might do a better job himself. Guin was no fool; she could perceive well enough that this was not so much about the ship. “Do you doubt me?” she enquired coolly. “You should know that when I go after something, I’ll get it.” “Of all people, I am completely aware that you mostly succeed in your ambitions,” Cairbre remarked dryly with a small smile. He had been there on a number of occasions when Guin had made the impossible possible. “I don’t doubt you; it’s your companion I doubt.” “I’ll be the judge of that,” Guin replied, very much taking the authority on this matter. She was not sure exactly why she was standing up for Liam, but she knew that she needed a ship.

[ Oh! It's Darcy He is lovely! ]
Liam nodded formally as he was introduced to Guinevere's pirate-friend. Cairbre referring to Guinevere as 'Captain' and Guin mentioning her pirateship, told Liam enough: however polite and fashionable, Cairbre remained an ordinairy pirate. Liam's dark eyes examined the stranger critically from head to toe and decided that the man looked haughty and too self-assured.
"I do not like the tone you take Mister," Liam started, taking a step forward but Guinevere interrupted and told Cairbre, who'd obviously been on intimate terms with her, enthusiastically about the their plan to take the Interceptor. Liam growled and cast his eyes to skies, cursing the fact that she told the busybody of their affairs.
But as soon as the man spoke again, stating his doubts, Liam's patience was pushed to the limit. Without even hearing what Guinevere said, he paced over to Cairbre Eagle until they almost stood nose to nose.
"Now listen, Cairbre," he hissed. "You have no reason to intrude in other people's affairs, nor do you have grounded foundations for your doubts." Liam looked at him again and realised that Cairbre had taken a judgemental attitude even from the beginning. "There's a party at the Fort, you'll fit in perfectly," he sneered. "So why won't you be a good lad and go and play there? Miss Elliot and I will then be able to talk about somewhat more important things.."
[Woops! I think this has become more than some friendly competition ]

(Lucky Guin! She has two guys fighting over her, and one of them Mr. Darcy! <3 I mean, Cairbre )
Cairbre met Liam’s anger with an expression of ice; he did not flinch as the other man approached him, nor did he step back from the implied challenge. “You wouldn’t know the meaning of the word importance if it hit you in the face,” he remarked, his tone blank and sharp. He ran his gaze over Liam, unimpressed, and then looked past him over to Guin. “Tell me, where did you find him, captain? His manners certainly leave something wanting.” He glanced back to Liam. “I think I do right to doubt you. I would be a poor friend indeed if I left Guinevere under your protection.” “Stop it!” Guin stepped between them, forcing them to step away from each other. “Heavens above, what is the matter with both of you?” She glared at them both. “It may have escaped your notice, but I am well able to look after myself. I don’t need protection. Nor do I need either of you to start ridiculous disputes over nothing. Do I make myself quite clear?” She paused, raking her bright gaze over both of them. Taking Liam by the arm, she forced him to step well back away from Cairbre, so that there were a good several steps between them. “Now, I think that this amount of distance makes it suitable that both of you should apologize to one another, immediately, or I may just find myself leaving both of you here on the dockyard to fight it out between you.” “As usual, your diplomacy is astounding, but…” Cairbre began, beginning to walk towards her. Guin warded him off by holding up her hand. “Stay there. And you…” she looked at Liam, “…you stay here.” He could hardly do otherwise, as she was restraining him with an iron grip.

It was a good thing that Guinevere dragged him back for Liam would surely have hit the man, gentleman or not. The disdainful words of Cairbre echoed through his mind and anger stirred within him which he could hardly control. Vaguely did he hear Guinevere's words on the background but upon hearing the words 'apology' he returned to his senses.
"I have nothing to apologize for," Liam quickly responsed. He nodded to Cairbre. "Your friend on the other hand.. He has approached with lack of respect from the beginning. Offending and insinuating that I would have evil intention." He'd turned to Cairbre again, his eyes narrowed. "Yes, you're making quite a good friend, treating your friend's friends as such."
Then he turned back to Guinevere, shaking her hand off his wrist. "You were asking for my help.. Shall we go now and skip to the part where I am actually going to help you?"

Guin raised her eyebrows at Liam. “Perhaps I will consider allowing you to help me when both of you have ceased behaving like idiots,” she replied, shaking her head. She glanced over at Cairbre, who was glaring in Liam’s direction. There could be no doubt now that war was declared between him and Liam. He stepped towards Guin, suddenly turning his attention away from the other man, as if he did not stand there beside her, well within earshot. “Guinevere, can you seriously consider accepting his assistance? He’s obviously nothing more than a common scoundrel, and a fast ticket to an appointment with the gallows,” he said, lowering his voice slightly. “If you need support then allow me to help you. I’ve never let you down before, captain.” Guin stood rooted to the spot for a moment, hesitating slightly. Cairbre reached out and encircled her wrist with his hand, as if he would pull her away from Liam. Guin flinched and abruptly cleared her throat, avoiding the intensity of his gaze. She stepped back and pulled her arm away. Over her head, Cairbre caught Liam’s eye. His expression was blank, but he was clearly mocking him. Guin looked between them both and folded her arms. “You know what I think I shall do? I will find a tavern where I can have a drink and perhaps relax. Maybe you two can come along and settle your ridiculous dispute, because quite honestly, I’m getting sick of it,” she said shortly. “Well? Will neither of you accompany me?” Imperiously, she held out her hand as if to summon either of them to her side. She shot Liam a tiny flicker of a smile that held her features for half a moment.
