The white-washed door creeked open when Lucy looked in. It was like a strange dream. One you would have at nights end before the break of dawn. The ones that tugged on your heart when you were child, and would follow to haunt you when you grew.
There in the corner of the room sat the sad figure of Edward. He was curled in a ball, shaking like a leaf, fingers twitching like scissors and his face pale hidden towards the floor.
Even the bright colors of Lucy's happy room had seemed to lost their color as the sad silence fell over it.

Lucy ran to Edward's side seeing the fetal position he had curled himself up into. "Edward, are you ok? Did he hurt you? I'm so sorry, Edward. I'm so sorry."
Lucy placed a hand gently on his shoulder and caressed it.

Edward flinched and his chest tensed at the voice that was suddenly near to him and when the hand touched him.
A stupid question Lucy asked. And Edward decided not to respond. Although, he did lift his head, revealing a bloody nose and a mean gash above where his eyebrow would be.
The two puppy-dog eyes blinked slowly, like they’d pour out large, rolling tears at any moment. His breaths were only barely above a wary murmur.

Katherine sighed deeply, when she saw that Edward was bleeding. "I'll go and get a towel." She told the both of them softly and then headed to the kitchen. She looked through the cabinets and then got out her towel. She started heading back for Lucy's room.

Lucy's face filled with fear as she remembered how it felt to be abused. Feeling complete sympathy for Edward, she knelt on her knees and faced him directly. Taking his face in both of her soft gently hands, she said, "It's ok, Edward. I'm here for you....just like grandma Kim was. I love you too."
Looking deep into his eyes, she could see the years of hurt, neglect, fear, broken love, uncertainty, and now....abuse.

Katherine came back into the room and walked over to Lucy and Edward. She knelt in front of Edward and smiled a little to him. "Everything will be okay now... I promise you." She said softly to him and then gently started wiping the blood off of his face.

Lucy noticed how Edward had cut her off by answering quickly. She felt a little embarrassed....thinking she may have talked too much at the moment....or maybe mentioning grandma Kim was not a good idea.
Watching as the blood was wiped from Edward's face, Lucy could only sit and stare sadly.
Making one last attempt to show her affection and remorse, she held Edward's hand lovingly.

Edward's hand was much warmer than it had been. Maybe a bit too warm. But his lips were still a pale, gray blue. What would worry most, though, was the way he was breathing. With every breath, he gasped, as if it hurt him. He seemed to have gotten worse since the Boggs last saw him. Was N.A.S.A all they were said to be?
"Why did you bring me back?" a small voice asked, eyes frozen to the floor.

Katherine looked over Edward's face when he asked the question and sighed deeply. "Because... Lucy and I really missed you." She told him softly and then finished getting all the blood off. She lowered her hand with the washrag in it and sat down in front of Edward, silently.

"We were told that you were dead, Edward....years ago..." Her brown eyes trailed off of Edward's sad face.
Still clutching his new hand, she said, "Why wouldn't we bring you back home? We love you. I love you. You were really my only true friend."
Her ears heard the sound of his breathing, but she did not say anything afraid that she may worry her mother.

Feeling Edward pull away gave Lucy the clue that he did not want to be handled or touched. She backed away from him and stood up. "Just so you know....umm...daddy left the house. He's not here, so you don't have to worry."
Her feet shifted uneasily as she looked to her mother for direction.

Katherine gently helped Edward up and then backed away from him, as well. "Do you want me to make you some food, Edward?" She asked him softly and looked over his face. She wrapped an arm around Lucy's shoulders and held her close to her side.
