"Your father was a good man, but THIS man is not. What would he think to have his beloved daughter with a shifter? If your father knew you fell in love with his kind, it would know doubt put him in an early grave. God rest his soul, but perhaps it is a blessing that he was spared seeing his daughter fall."

Darius's convulsions finally ceased and he lay lifelessly on the ground. Nevertheless, his breathing remained labored as his chest started to tighten, and beads of sweat soon dotted his forehead as his temperature soared.

Rosalina took Darius into her arms. She could feel him tremble with fever. "He was the only one I could go to, when I lived with my sister and her husband. The only one who gave me love besides my sister." She looked at the men. "He is my soul, My other half."

The men averted their eyes but still no one budged to offer any assistance.
"Oh what the heck," Billy grumbled under his breath as he finally stepped forward to help.
"Don't do it, Billy," another man warned. "Remember how he tried to kill us all."
"But it ain't right to leave a lady so broken. Besides I owe her father a debt of honor."
"You think her father would approve of her being with--with that?"
"How should I know, but he did marry his eldest daughter to a tyrant, and the regret all but destroyed him. Perhaps he would be happy that his younger child found love and would want us to help."

Billy looked at Rosalina in surprise at her words, remembering that was the nickname Rosalina had used for Calista when they visited the village. None of the villagers had dared to address the elder sister in such terms though she had invited them to as she hated such formalities. "Do you mean your sister? She's here?" he asked, shocked as a murmur started throughout the crowd, each knowing that the older sister's presence could bring trouble if Lord Julius ever demanded the return of his wife.
Lowering his head, Billy started to wish he never volunteered to help. The less he knew about the business of lords and ladies, the safer he would be. "I'll go and get a wagon," he mumbled. "And you can ask her for help," he muttered.

Billy slunk off into the shadows and within a short time came back with two mules hitched to a wagon. Taking Darius from Rosalina then, he set him in the back and waited for the young woman to join him and then instruct him where to go.

Billy said nothing more as he drove the wagon to her father's house, wishing that he never invovled himself in this mess. Meanwhile, Darius's breathing grew more labored as his chest tightened as his fever still soared.

When they finally arrived at Calista's and Rosalina's father's house home Bill halted the wagon in front of it and waited for further instructions.
