Shannon took a deep breath, when she saw that an officer was heading straight for Mort's head with a baton. She then looked to the man she had just hit. She quickly got up and kicked him hard in the face. She grabbed onto Dan's hand and started running further down the hall. "Come on!" She yelled.

CRACK!
The baton in the officer's hand hit its target. That target was Mort Rainey's head.
Slowly his world darkened, and the heat of blood escaped his head. He watched Shannon and Dan escape down the hall, while his body helplessly crashed down to the cold floor...
"This ain't finished for 'em Mister Rainey...ain't finished..."

Dan followed Shannon and tightly held her hand. Looking back over his shoulder, he saw Mort get struck, "Oh my God......" His run was slowing down and he was having thoughts of trying to save his 'friend'....or at least that is what Dan thought of Mort.

Nate jumped out of Shooter's arms and knelt down near Mort's injured body. "Daddy? Are you all right? Daddy?" he said as he touched Mort's hand.

"You'll pay for what you've done buddy!" growled the officer with Mort's blood on his baton. He then knelt on top of him and handcuffed his wrists and ankles.
The other officer who was kicked in the face, radioed for more security to catch Dan and Shannon. "Their heading down the south hall! Block the entrace!" Wiping from blood from his mouth, he stood up and helped drag Mort back to his cell with the other officer.

Shannon glared at the officers, as she looked over her shoulder at what Dan was looking at. Mort had been caught. She stopped running and then turned back around to them. She held onto her baton tightly in her one hand and then let go of Dan. "You go after the man holding Mort down. I'll go after the other." She said softly and then started running back.

Dan chased after Shannon and caught up with her, "NO! NO! Leave him! This is our only chance!" He picked her up and pulled the baton out of her hand. Dropping it to the floor, he dashed toward an exit with her over his shoulder.

The other two officers pulled Mort into a different area of the building. This was for the more dangerous patients. He was put in a straight jacket, once again, and his feet were bound together with handcuffs.

Shannon's eyes widened, when Dan picked her up. "NO!" She screamed and watched in horror as Mort was taken away. She couldn't let them take Mort in. Especially after all he did to save her.

Mort's face was smashed into the cold concrete floor, while he layed motionless. Odd silence fell around the room.

Dan dashed down the twisting hallways and looked around anxiously for the only exit.
Eventually he reached it, but suddenly, three officers stepped near the edge of the hallway and stood in front of the door.
Dan quickly hid behind the corner of the wall and breathed heavily, "What now? What do I do?"

The two other officers sat Mort up against a wall and kicked him in the leg to wake him up, "GET UP! WAKE UP! GET UP!"

Shannon took deep breaths and quickly got down off of Dan's shoulder. She bit her lip anxiously and watched him. "Give me that baton." She said and swallowed hard. She extended her hand out, so that he would give it to her.

Dan's hazel crazed eyes uneasily looked at Shannon, "No, I'm going to use it. We need to get rid of those officers by the door. We need to get out of here! It's our only chance!" He shook and breathed hard. Gripping the baton tightly in his hands, he readied for an attack.

Mort woke up. His eyes blinked around and flinched as he felt the damage the officers were doing to his legs. He panicked and immediately went to protect himself with his hands, but found them bound again in the straight jacket.

Dan turned back to Shannon and whispered, "Ok, I'm going to go for it, but as I'm fighting and if there is an escape.....go for it. Do you understand? I've been here too many years and believe me, you do not want to be here, ma'am."

The officers laughed at Mort's reaction. One of them said, "Good thing you're awake now, Mr. Rainey. The deputy will want to have a word with you."
They then began to laugh amongst themselves and then exited the cell, locking it behind them.

Mort looked around in the silence. He was scared to death. He felt his insides twists and turn. How did he get here? What had he done?
He felt cold sweat pour down his forehead. He didn't know what to do...
