Shade was about to answer when something very loud was heard falling on top of the roof. He quickly jumped up and got his bow. "Stay here..." He said, though he figured she'd never listen to him.

Kith cursed at himself. You should have run! That is what you do. You run. Always run! Don't get attached to anybody or anything. They will always let you down. But another part of him whispered to him and told him to revele himself. Not all things are bad, it whispered. He shuddered, but lept down off the roof onto a barrel, then the ground. "My name is Kith, and mean you two no harm. Just let me on my way" He managed to stutter. He rubbed his wrist: they were still sore.

((WHOA, I leave for the evening and you get two pages ahead of me! Someone want to explain what's happening?))

Rhan roughly forced the tiny head back into her leather jerkin- Not on purpose, she had tried gently, and to no avail. The silver, reptilian head poked out again imidiately and let out a tiny chattering noise, akin to a human laugh, showing its miniture fangs.
"Very funny..."the elf murmerd in the ancient tongue, and patted the small head. She heard a comotion in one of the buildings, and shoved the head down again, drawing her bow, edging closer.
Her pace was completely shrouded in shadows, though her jewel-eyes shon with a light of their own.

Hearing part of the exchange going on outside, the elf rolled her eyes and stood, putting her sword down in favor of her bow. The way those two were talking, they were going to alert anyone nearby of their prescence here..and she definitely didn't want that to happen. Quietly, she slipped from the building, nocking an arrow once outside. While the little confrontation continued, she was going to do a sweep of the city..better safe than sorry.

In an abandoned building quite a ways from where the group was, there was a flickering, unsure little fire. A young mortal woman crouched by it, blowing encouragingly. She turned to look up at the brilliant red dragon who crouched behind her. "If only you could breathe fire - though I suppose that's part of another legend?"

On her sweep of the city, the elf eventually smelled wood smoke, signaling another fire, and she froze, quite literally, in her tracks, and looked about sharply for the source of the smell.

(And yes, it's Venesse's fire that's causing the smoke.)

Is a fire really wise, do you think? the dragon asked her anxiously, through their telepathic link.

"There's been nobody here for ages, Bry, of course it's fine," replied the young woman out loud.

Hearing a voice made the elf stiffen even more, and she tested the string on her bow carefully. On silent feet, she moved swiftly towards the building she realized the smoke to be emanating from, and staying carefully concealed in the shadows, she peered inside.

The dragon leaned forward, stretching his neck above the fire. He was quite young for a dragon, and nowhere near what his full size would be, but still large enough to carry the human.

She held out her hands, warming them, and then stood. "I suppose we can't stay..." she murmured, "maybe the Empire wouldn't be so bad. I mean, the only reason we left was because of what people told us, and maybe it was wrong."

The dragon shifted uneasily and growled a little. No. I don't have a good feeling about it, we're better off without them.

Just by listening to the one-sided conversation, the elf was becoming more and more wary of these strangers. But, to confront them would make her reveal herself to them, and she did not want to do that, especially when there was a dragon involved..no, she didn't fear dragons, her own circumstances considered, but it would be foolish to face one all the same, even when she didn't know how strong it was.
