Elise glanced up at the head table. Dumbledore looked as serene as ever, and the professors were chatting politely with each other; a few of them caught her eye and waved.

Then, the great doors at the front of the hall opened, and the nervous but excited group of new students made their way into the hall. Elise recognized some of those whose compartment she had joined on the train; she winked at them and gave an encouraging smile.

"Now they will be sorting us" whispered Brett to his companions. "I see professor Dumbledore there. Oh my, I am so nervous." He looked at Malfoy, who was stepping near them with proud expression. "Malfoy knows he will get into Slytherin." Brett whispered once again.

When professor McGonagall called the first new student, Morgan realised she was in for a long wait, with her last name starting with a W. She caught Elise's eye and gave her a nervous smile, before turning her attention back to the Sorting. It was hard to keep focused when there was so much to see around her: the mass of older students, the floating candles, the four huge House-banners, and the enchanted ceiling.

Soon they heard the name of the first of them.

"Brett Barreth!"

Brett nervously looked at his friends and came closer to the hat that was lying before him. Soon professor put it on his head and everything silenced in his brain. He heard whispering "A lot of cunning...but also bravery...but he wants to be the best deep in his heart..." When the Sorting Hat screamed his House, his veins froze.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Mark stood, petrified. He tried to give Brett a sympathetic look, but was afraid it came out as more of a grimace. He was too nervous. And it was almost his turn. He didn't move, just stared around the Great Hall with amazement. Floating candles! Who could believe that?! He thought he spotted Professor Snape up at the table where all the professors were sitting. He looked exactly like Brett had described him.

"Mark Dimond!" Professor McGonagall shouted, and it took all of Mark's effort to move forward. He sat on the stool as the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. It considered for a moment, whispering in his ear.

"GRYFFINDOR!" it shouted, and Mark practically fell off the stool.

Elise sat at the Hufflepuff table, politely clapping along with everyone else as the line of new first years slowly dwindled down. She was a little startled when one of the boys from the compartment on the train was sorted into Slytherin - he had seemed so nice! The blond boy who had been so unpleasant on the train was immediately sorted into Slytherin (no surprises there).

Then came the name they had all been waiting for: Professor McGonagall called out "Potter, Harry!" Elise craned her neck to get a better view of the front of the hall as a small, black-haired boy walked up to the hat. "So that's Harry Potter?" one of her friends whispered. "Doesn't look like much, does he?"

Morgan looked at the dark-haired boy who was now Sorted. She heared the older and new students whisper, and Harry looked a bit nervous before the Hat sank over his eyes. Some time passed before the Hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR"! Harry looked extremely relieved when he was totally visible again and he grinned as he walked over to the Gryffindor table.

Her nerves returned as she noticed the group of first-years was getting smaller rather quickly. Only a few of them were left, Psyche being one of them.

Ariadne watched as more and more first years joined the other students at the house tables. As she looked around, she saw that the mood in the hall had changed. A few students were chatting quietly with each other, and some were picking up their knives and forks and looking expectantly at the empty golden plates in front of them.

(I have seen Dany, but I don't think I've seen Loki recently. I'm kind of waiting for Loki's post, because Psyche should be sorted before Morgan )

(Hm, tough question! I'd love to go on, but I'd also feel kind of bad for leaving Cara and Loki out! I'll try PM-ing them both, but I saw they both last visited the forum on the 19th of August, so maybe something has happened?)
