Shannon looked over Mort's poor, beat up body and then quickly ran over to the couch. She grabbed one of the blankets off of it and then draped it over Mort's shoulders. She took his hand and led him over to the couch, slowly. "What on earth happened to you?" She asked him softly. She seemed completely upset, with the way he looked.

Whether it was relief from Shannon not turning him away or weakness from something else, Mort fell to his knees.
“I don’t…I…” Fresh tears fell from his red eyes. Not knowing what else to do, he brushed his wet, matted hair away from his face and there onto the floor fell droplets of blood mixed with muddy water from his strands.

Shannon looked to Dan with sad eyes and then kneeled down beside Mort. She wrapped her arms around him and enveloped him in a big hug. "It's okay now... everything is okay..." She whispered to him and laid her head down on his shoulder.

Dan was skeptical that police might be following. He looked to Mort and Shannon, once in a while, but then directed his attention back out of the small window on the door.
After about two minutes, he then briskly walked toward Mort and Shannon. Kneeling in front of Mort, he asked, "Dude, is that your blood? What did they do to you? Where are you hurt? I can get some towels to stop the bleeding." Dan looked nervous and drew closer to Mort to see if there were any wounds visible.

“No, I should just…it’s nothing and…” Mort shook his head and wiped at his tears. He then looked down at his blood stained hands and it started coming clear, "It's...it's not...my blood...not my blood..."

Dan's eyes shifted to Shannon for a split second and then back at Mort, "Wh.....what?" Almost in a way, Dan didn't want to believe what Mort had said, so he asked once again for reassurance.

Mort saw his hands shake. His breathing tightened and someone just yanked his stomach out.
He started to see images.
Flashes of pain. Agony. Anger. Darkness. Puddles of blood on white tile. Splattered blood on white walls. Men screaming.
Mort closed his eyes and grabbed locks of hair on his head. He started to pull and his face winced like he was being choked. He hunched over and started to beat his fists on the sides of his head, "Stop it...stop it...get out...no no.."

Dan stood up quickly with his eyes wide on Mort's abnormal behavior. He looked to Shannon nervously and then swallowed, "Dude...what did they do to you, Mort?"
He took a couple steps back afraid of the thoughts that began to enter his mind.
