This one's loosely based off of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but without the general Quasimodo plotline. Anyway, the plot: Gypsies live freely in the villages, towns, and even cities of Paris, and they have for nigh on twenty-five years. The commoners have no qualms against the gypsies and their nomadic way of life, but there are those that are definitely against them..violence has broken out several times at fairs and festivals, and the targets have always been gypsies. Now, they as a whole are in fear of their lives, and it is still unclear who is behind the persecution of these nomads.. Obviously, spots are open for gypsies, commoners, and almost anything else you can think of. When joining, please post with this bio form: Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: History: If that is too little information, you can go more in-depth. And now..for the characters: Raven's characters: Name: Mirielle Age: 17 Appearance: Very slender, of average height. Has waist-length reddish-brown hair, tanned skin, and dark brown eyes. History: Her family has always been very poor, and her parents finally had to send her away once she was 13. Relying on her rudimentary dancing skills(she had no training, but was just naturally graceful), she often bought her meals and lodging in different towns and villages throughout the country, just by entertaining patrons(always men). When she was 14, however, she became caught up in a band of traveling 'showmen', which was just another word for traveling thieves, and she was really put to the test of her abilities for three years. She finally managed to get away from them when she was seventeen, when she found herself in the company of a traveling group of boys, and they formed into a band, much like that of a Gypsy caravan(and they also classify themselves as Gypsies). Skill(s) and ability(ies): Is fluent in French and Spanish, and is an accomplished dancer. Name: Rene Age: 19 Gender: Appearance: Very tall, with longish brown hair and blue eyes. Bio: Born to a very poor family, the eldest of seven children, Rene had to leave his family at the young age of ten, since his parents simply couldn't support him any longer. For a while, he was able to find honest work around his 'home' village and was able to support himself, but as a fire struck one night and burned the whole village to the ground, he had to resort to nomadism. Shortly after this, he became the leader of a small group of 'outcast' boys, none older than 13 at that time. This group of boys formed into a 'traveling show' of sorts, since each possessed some special talent or ability, and they supported themselves by moving from town to town. For six years they moved around like this, though things began to change for the better when a teenaged dancer, Mirielle by name, joined their little 'troupe', and they became a close-knit group, classifying themselves as Gypsies. Skill(s) and ability(ies): Speaks fluent Spanish, French, and understands Latin, but cannot speak it. Is a prolific acrobat and knife thrower. Name: Andre Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance: Slight of build and height, has longish black hair and blue-green eyes. Bio: N/A, he hasn't revealed it to anyone..neither has his twin, Blaise. The most important thing you need to know about him is that he is a member of Rene's caravan. Skill(s) and ability(ies): Can mimic almost anyone's voice, very believably. Is also a proficient musician. Name: Blaise Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance: Of average height, has dark brown hair and brown eyes. Bio: See Andre's bio.. Is also a proficient musician. _____________________________________________________________ Eruraina's character: Name: Annalett but called by Saphire Age: 16 Gender: female Appearance: knotted red hair, icey blue eyes, tall and slender. History: she is a commoner in the village, but wants to join the gypsies. She has no friends, and she never gets along with her parents and many siblings. One reason is because she is a very good artist, and she has sketched things of people, and later finds out that what happenes in the sketch really happens. It's like she can draw or paint or sketch the future, but only she really suspects it... _____________________________________________________________ Meldawen's characters: Name: Mirabelle Nicknames: Mira or Belle, usually Belle Age: fifteen Gender: female Appearance: black hair and darker-than-average skin, with bright green eyes. Small and slender. Personality: Possessive, sensitive and timid, but will stand up under dire circumstances. Very reluctant to trust anyone. History: Belle helped support her family until her father died very recently. He was stealing food and had his right hand cut off, eventually dying from infection. After that her family broke apart, her and her three siblings to the streets. Her mother died soon after, and Belle and her brother (Carlos) attempted to support themselves and their two siblings but couldn't keep them together. She habitually dances in inns or at fairs to earn money, and has lost track of her younger brother and sister but occasionally sees her older brother. Name: Carlos Age: eighteen Gender: Male Appearance: Dark hair and skin like his sister Belle, but six feet tall and quite strong. Dark blue eyes. Personality: Down-to-earth and responsible. He feels terrible about the loss of his two youngest siblings and has attempted several times to find them. History: Same as his sister's, only he does any odd jobs he can find. _____________________________________________________________ Elenya's characters: Name: Lisette Age: 17 Gender: female Appearance: Long curly black hair, large brown eyes. She's average height and slender. History: Lisette is the daughter of French peasants, who died when she was 11. She got the money she needed for several years by stealing and pickpocketing. When she was 16 she joined the band of Gypsies, working mainly as a pickpocket. Name: Gabriel Age: 18 Gender: male Appearance: Shoulder-length brown hair, green eyes, tall and muscular. History: He doesn't talk about it much. When she got older she would go to the local markets and watch the parades, the jugglers, and the other entertainment, it was there when she learned she wanted to be a dancer. She was intranced by the long flowing colorful dresses and the beautiful girls who danced in them. Her mother forbid her to take up such a profession but Evelyn would not back down. Secretly she learned to dance from a friend she had met in the market and when she was old enough she joined them in the streets, dancing for anything and everyone. Her mother was furious but loved her daughter no matter who much she hated the dancers. _____________________________________________________________ Morwen1739's character: Name: Eponine Age: 18 Gender: female Appearance: deep set dark eyes and dark hair. Blue shabby cloak and a brown dress that she ahs clearly outgrown. History: Eponine was taught to play the viol (the forerunner of the violin) by an old jewish shoemaker, who was her adoptive father. She was treated like a daughter by the old man until he died, leaving her his viol. She has a deep passion for music, and could often be found staring vacantly at nothing while playing her viol. Now she plays on street corners earning what she can. She dosn't care that she doesn't get to eat often, just that she has her music. _____________________________________________________________ Falathiel's characters: Name: Therese Nicknames: Essa, Ther Age: 17 Gender: female Appearance: long, curly dark blonde hair with bright green eyes. Tall, slender, and beautiful but she does not think so. Personality: Therese is very cunning and creative. She is into the arts and it is how she earns money. She tends to be hot-tempered and is known for her sarcasm, and occasional harshness. She is also known for getting into squabbles and fist fights. On the outside, she is tough and fearless but inside she is very sensitive and worries. History: Nothing is known about Therese's birth or parentage. She was found wandering about the streets of Paris by some gypsies with her twin brother at the age of nine. They had no memory of their parents and lived in the Paris catacombs, stealing food to live. The gypsies were a group of street performers and they took them in. This particular group would put on small plays, dance, sing, and play instruments. Therese began as a simple helper. She'd cook meals, clean, and help with performances by taking care of props and such. As she grew older, she became one of their performers and she regularily dances, sings, and acts on street corners. She also is now the apprentice to one of their fortune tellers. ------------------------ Name: Dashiell Nicknames: Dash Age: 17 Gender: male Appearance: wavy dark brown hair with bright green eyes. He is also tall with a slim, muscular build. Personality: Dashiell is a quiet, silent type. He is not shy but often he just doesn't have anything to say. He is very sensible and opinionated but usually keeps his comments to himself after seeing how much trouble Therese gets into. History: The same as his twin but instead of being one of the main performers, Dashiell plays a wooden flute. But his main job is navigating through the catacombs to deliver messages, steal food, or simply hide the gypsies. |

Of course. And now, we can start! __________________________________________ That evening, the ringing sound of tambourines being struck melded smoothly with the rapid drumbeats. Other instruments soon melded with these sounds, and by the flickering light of the campfire, the dance began. Round and round the fire she danced, skirts whirling in a mass of colors and shapes, the tambourine she carried being struck in time with the other instruments. She danced for nigh on fifteen minutes, until the other instruments began to be silenced slowly, and then she stopped midstep and lowered her upheld tambourine. "Excellent, you've come up with a new routine." said a nearby voice from among the dispersing musicians. "Comes with practice." came her slightly breathless response, before she brushed stray strands of hair out of her face. The one who had spoken, known simply as Rene, gave a small smirk. "If only everyone else was as dedicated as you are, Mirielle." Mirielle shrugged nonchalantly in response to that, stepping away from the flickering flames. "If they were, we would be able to play at more festivals than we could possibly attend." |

Eponine cradled her viol in her arms, the poor instument had broken another string. She touched the spot where the string had been and moaned. Without an instument to play, that meant no money, and without money that meant no string. The sound of music suddenly stopped in the distance, she hoped someone there would be able her. Stumbling through the dark she caught site of a fire far of and headed towards it. |

"Very nice, Mirielle," commented Carlos, standing up from where he'd been watching appreciatively. "Your best yet, I would say." He glanced over at Belle on the other side of the fire. She was staring longingly, almost hungrily, into the dancing flames, having watched Mirielle with something closely akin to envy. Carlos's lips tightened almost imperceptibly, but he looked back at Mirielle and smiled. "I look forward to seeing it again." |

Evelyn sat around the campfire watching the others dance while tapping her bare feet on the ground, the tiny bells around her ankles adding to the musical sounds echoing through the dark forests. Her golden hair was held back beneath a white hood that fell down to her feet, the white dress beneath showered in golden specks causing it to glow in the fire light. |

Mirielle dipped her head in acknowledgement of the compliment, allowing the ghost of a smile to shadow her features. "I am glad to hear I have improved..I will need all the skill possible in a few days, at the Midyear's festival." |
