Ages upon ages ago, at the Creation of the world of Varahni, the Creator and the Sculptors(The One God and his Council of Angels) were transgressed by the Destroyer and the Usurpers(The Antithesis of the Creator and his Council of Devils). Elves, Shapeshifters, Dwarves, then Humans were made and placed on earth, while Dark Elves, Goblins, Giants, and Half-Breeds were made and placed at the same time as the former four races. War, though delayed for many long centuries, eventually broke out, nearly annihilating each individual race. They would have been annihilated, had it not been for the intervention of the Celestials and the Demons, respectively. The Celestials, lower Angels of sorts and the Creator's answer to war, were opposed by the Demons, lower Devils and the Destroyer's hand in the war. A measure of peace ensued after several long centuries of fighting, and the Celestials and Demons just...vanished without a trace. While each seperate race rebuilt and repopulated, measures were taken among the elves, humans, dwarves, and shapeshifters, to ensure that no war would break out among them. It was also agreed that any race would help any of the others should war break out again, and with this treatise, peace was ensured among the forces of good. No such measure was made among the forces of evil, who were constantly fighting amongst themselves. Now, nearly 10,000 years after that disastrous war, war is once again being threatened. The Dark forces are stirring again and rising against the Light forces, and it is even rumored that Demons and Celestials have been seen again, seen to be dwelling on islands at near opposite sides of the world...what will come of this? Will war break out, or can it, by some miracle, be prevented? Unlikely alliances may very well be made, and that is what peace hinges on..
Agh..sorry if this is vague. I've been working on it for a while, and this was the only way to explain my idea. Anyway..here's some information on some of the races that may need clarification.
Humans: One of the mortal races, the shortest-living of them all. Also the most common race.
Elves: Semi-immortal, they can live for an average of 5,000 years or more, unless killed in battle or poisoned.
Dwarves: Short and stocky in comparison to most races, they are mortal like humans, yet can live to be about 400.
Shapeshifters: Semi-immortal like elves, they, like their name suggests, can change their form to that of an animal, or even use it to change their appearance.
Dark elves: Just like normal elves, except twisted into service among the Dark forces.
Goblins: Grotesque humanoids, they are cruel and vicious.
Giants: The opposite of dwarves, they average the height of ten feet easily, and can grow taller. They are also inordinately strong, and quite vicious when pressed.
Half-Breeds: Grotesque crosses between Humans and beasts, they can bear sharp teeth and claws, as well as animal appendages.
And now..the two most important races:
Celestials: Immortal, unable to be killed except in battle or by poison, they are very similar in appearance to elves, yet their ears are more noticeably pointed, as the points are elongated. All bear some sort of tattoo or other, marking them for such things as occupation, background, nobility; this often marks them out so that they have to disguise themselves.
Demons: Immortal like the Celestials, they are also very similar in appearance to the aforementioned race, yet two things differ: their teeth are razor sharp, and their nails are unnaturally sharp.
Also, there is magic, but only Elves, Shapeshifters, Dark Elves, Celestials, and Demons can use it. Powers can be control of the elements(fire, water, earth, air, and spirit), or it can me mental communication(telepathy), mind control, moving objects with the mind(telekenesis), etc.
