He calls himself the Wyrmlord, a dragon of unutterable color and size, whose lair is shadowed by the Mountains of Dereksh. Little by little, he is forming a legion of followers he calls the Wyrmlord's Ascendancy. Little by little, his own personal empire is spreading throughout the continent of Tirrad.
They call it the Guild, a powerful academy formed to educate and unite the mages of Tirrad. Its influences spread far. Its archmages are the true potentates of the great kingdoms, the advisors to the high thrones, if not the keepers of the high thrones themselves. Little by little, the Ascendants - followers of the Wyrmlord - are infiltrating the Guild. Little by little, the Guild is falling to shadow.
Every moon-turn, the Wyrmlord holds a banquet supposedly honoring the Guild. Mages are sent as ambassadors and honored banquet guests. Those mages never return. The mages of Tirrad are rapidly dying out.
And the Guild, diminishing in power, is helpless to resist.
You can play any of the mage "ambassadors" sent to this moon-turn's banquet. The positions below don't have to all be filled, but there can only be one of each profession. The ones in bold are still open. Try not to make your character TOO powerful.
Cleric: Priest devoted to the gods of light. Draws magic from the divine prayer, so is dependent on gods' will. Example spells - healing and divine fire.
Shaman: Priest devoted to the gods of dark. Draws magic from the divine prayer, so is dependent on gods' will. Example spells - healing and globe of darkness.
Necromancer: Worships death. Draws magic from a sacrifice of the mage's own blood or health (powerful spells require additional sacrifice, like someone else's blood). Example spells - raising and communicating with dead, short-lived transport to netherplane.
Druid: Wise in nature and earth. Draws magic meditation, so power is dependent on rest and discipline of mind. Example spells - communicating with animals, bolstering companions, manipulating plantlife.
Illusionist: Manipulates and wields power of the immanent. Draws magic from channeling the mind (but cannot read minds, only sense intentions). Example spells - conjuring illusions, invisible walls of force, bolstering companions not with healing but with strength of will/positive thought.
Sorcerer: War mage who specializes in destructive magic. Draws magic from manipulation of surroundings, but cannot manipulate a substance if it's not present (can only cast lightning in a storm, only cast fire if there is fire). Example spells - fireball, lightning bolt, flood.
Elementalist: Specializes in a certain element among the four - fire, water, earth, air (please specify which one in your profile). Draws magic from self, so power of spell is dependent on stamina of caster. Example spells (if air elementalist) - wind and lack of air (suffocation).

Two years of that miserable lifestyle changed his hopes from becoming rich and famous to simply making it back to his parents' farm. He was almost at the point of leaving the city when, on another impulse, he signed up with a mercenary company. Though there was much more work that needed to be done than while he was begging, his income was greater, and he was given a sword and armour. He was far from talented wielding his sword, and gave both himself and others many small injuries while trying to convince himself that he could. Eventually, though, he became adequate enough to go along with the rest of the company whenever they were hired. It was during one of those assignments that he got lost in the middle of the night, traversing a twisted pass in the Mountains of Dereksh. Much to his misfortune, no one either noticed or cared, either, because no one was sent to find him.
