"Mama, I'm hungry." Aithe started. She'd been holding the same mug for a matter of minutes, frozen in the act of wiping it clean. When had she last blinked? Not since ice had suddenly glazed the windows, for certain. "Is it dinner yet?" The small hands on her skirt tugged and she looked down. Three-year-old Lia waited expectantly. "No. It's not dinner. Where's your brother?" Aithe forced her hands into motion, ordering clean glasses on the top of the bar, finding that her eyes slipped sideways at the place where Hal, Fiona and Morgan looked blankly down at the man on the floor. "Inna stables, wiv Jack. But I'm hungry." The last glass clinked too loudly. Aithe scrubbed her hands on her apron and bent to pick up her daughter. "We'll go ask Cook, hmm, if she has a snack for you?" But she didn't move. Neither did the man on the floor. |

Morgan finally shrugged, yet again. She tossed her head back in a motion that would have flicked her long braid over her shoulder, save for the fact that it was pinned securely at the back of her head. "Well, I don't know him." It was true. She generally remembered her father's male customers; the young ones, the far-ranging ones, and the attractive ones, at least. This particular specimen was about fifty, very bald, and very paunchy, and he looked practically senile as he lay unconscious. She huffed and spun around to her position behind the bar. Business was brisk right now, as it was the end of the week, and the end of a workday, and both her father and Aithe had their hands full. Morgan was filling in for Jenna - heavens knew where she was, late again - and wished she'd show up. Filling four flagons with Hal's signature draft, she carried the tray out to the table that had signaled for them, before all this fiasco began. As she began to set out the drinks, a throbbing pain pierced her temple and lodged there. She gasped. She didn't usually get headaches ... but there it was. One of the flagons tipped and almost spilled. |

Jenna ran in her wild red hair thrown up messily. The girl looked more than a little ill- her skin had taken on a chalky pallor. The only color to find on her was the red on her nose, she tended to get this way when the winter came about and rations in her house were cut down - she had a habit of giving her younger brothers most of her food. Black circles remained in their permanent place under her eyes. "Sorry, everyone," the apology was the first thing out of her mouth after she closed the door behind her, and it was mostly directed at Morgan. "Who's at?" She asked seeing then man on the floor . It was not uncommon to see men passed out on the floor of the bar, but it was unusual for everyone to be giving it so much attention. She stepped lightly around the man and grabbed the tray from Morgan seeing her very nearly drop. Jenna bit her lip nervously and looked the girl over. "You alright? Gave me a scare," she said hefting the tray into a more comfortable position. |

Jack shivered and gave a worried glance behind him too the stables. He would drop the boy off and then go and see to the horses. He didn't understand what had just happened. The frost running along the ground like the spring time flood when the river burst its banks down stream of the village. Except this flood was cold and and became icy the furthur you were swalloed up in it. As Jack had left the stables he had already seen the water in the horses trough's turn to ice. He didn't understand. But he knew what to do; he gave the boy his own coat and wrapping him up in a blanket ran with him to the kitchen door of the inn. The boy was hardly dressed for winter weather it being summer and all. Next he must put blankets on the horses and give them a good warm mash, he'd need hot water from the kitchens while he thought of it. "Mistress Aithe, i thought i'd a better return your son to you before he caught his death a' cold." He unwrapped the boy from the blanket but left him his coat to play with. He turned to leave and return to the stabels when he caught sight of Morgan and his heart stopped for a moment. She looked more beutiful than ever. "Good evening Miss Morgan, I hope your feeling well." He remembered the days when they were little and had played together before she'd become too proud for him and moved on. But he never had. He still loved Morgan Cooper with everything he had. |
