[ This takes place somewhere along the southern part of the United Kingdom, in a train--Lord help me, I don't have a world map--yet. SOMEDAY. <Coughed.> Anyway. As usual anyone is welcome to join, however there are some rules this time. Every character -must- be a human. No vampires, sorcerers, people with really cool powers that don't know how they got them bla bla, etc; you get my point. I think it'll make for an interesting and maybe even more challenging roleplay, seeing as we're relying on realistic sources. Okay, enough blabber, just post your character if you wish, and off we go! I'll be using Jacquelin --> http://arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4701]
The compartments weren't exactly hollow, but the passengers were scarce. Today was a holiday in most places; most had gathered together to celebrate the Winter Solstice.
Fresh snow had clustered on the outer corners of the windows, the insides being partially steamed up, giving the compartments a cozy look. Jacquelin sat alone in a dining compartment, quietly sipping from a small bowl of soup. It was nearly one o'clock, but only three others sat in the same compartment, most being well over their prime years, and talking amongst themselves.
She held a first-class ticket, and was not accustomed to the dainty aristocratic social life that passed in and out of the rooms. They did not speak to her, and nor did she to them. In fact, she did her best to keep her eyes averted, returning their shunning glances. The three other people in the dining compartments happened to be men, all clean shaven and beginning to gray at their roots.
Jacquelin was a small and curvy thing, huddled back in the corner of the room, minding her own. Her light brown hair layed 'pon her shoulders in two long braids, seeming most peasantry compared to the curled locks of other girls. She did not mind however.
Turning her soft blue eyes to gaze out the window, she sighed through her nostrils, listening to the sounds of the train.

-Hmm..Do you think Chance would fit in on this one? He doesn't have any special powers, he's just an exiled prince. o.O but if he doesn't I can fix 'im up. He sounds like he should be in here..Oooh and btw. What general time period is this set in?-

[ You know..Jacquelin is really supposed to be around the mid 1700's so to speak, but I can't remember when the railroad was created in these parts, but it should be like.. right after it was invented..I'd say around the 1800's? Bring Chance in.]

-As you wish. Here's the profile, for anyone else who eventually joins. http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/vie ... php?t=5301 -
Chance sighed. Could there be no peace on this accursed contraption? he though as he pulled on his shirt, buttoning it silently as he stepped down the narrow hallway, attempting to button with one hand and grasped a book in the other. He had only passed one or two people before coming to the dining end of the car, and few enough people in there as well. He sat at one of the compartments, and flashed a grin at the waitress who took his order. But even then, he was distracted, he longed to be outside, to be home, to be anywhere but here. Some chance of that happening, he considered ironically.
Again distracted, his gaze shifted from the window to a figure curled up in another compartment. She looked lonely, but he figured that he could not read people very well anyway and that she was probably quite content on her own. Nonetheless, he was surprised to discover that it was he who sought companionship, and stood up to walk over to the egde of her little nook, where he tilted his head slightly and waited to be noticed.
"Excuse me, my lady. May I sit down?" He smiled pleasantly, holding the book clasped in his hands, hopefully where it would be unnoticed.

Jacquelin had not noticed the young man walk in and sit down, it was not until he asked her a question that she peeled her eyes from the window. Somewhat startled, she jumped at his voice, nearly spilling her soup all over the table. It was luckily restabled as she grasped the side of it with one hand, pushing it to the side shyly.
She looked him over, not calculatingly, but somewhat curious. She was not in the mood to be mocked by snobbish boys, and thus was her first thought when he approached her. Then again, she could not discard her manners.
" Y-yes, sir." Jacquelin replied in a small voice, unnable to hide her thick irish accent.

I'll join here's my character profile; http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/vie ... 412#214412
----
Sitting quietly in a corner of the reasonable sized compartment, Asha sat with her chin resting on her curled up hand, her eyes focused on the passing feilds of the English countryside.
She blinked, her heavy dark eyelashes disturbing the tears that had formed there in the past few minuets.
She sighed, moving slightly causing her shoulder length hair to shimmer slightly in the light.
Her facial expressions showed nothing about her past, present and her future was now out of her hands.
She sat for awhile, looking up into the dark snow heavy clouds oblivious to everyone and everything around her, she was too busy wrapped up in her thoughts, memories and dreams.

"Thank you," he uttered quietly before sliding into the seat across from her. It was, to say the least, an unexpected reaction. He had been shunned, made someone do a double-take, or simply been ignored...But no one had ever nearly spilled their soup because he'd said something. He did manage to conceal his smile, as he glanced for a moment out the window. When he turned back, he gazed thoughtfully at her.
Softly, he asked, "If you pardon my asking, what is your name?"

[ Welcome Isteleth.]
Jacquelin had focused her full attention on the young man. It was a habbit at times, to see new people as if they were the only thing in the room. It of course bothered some people. They felt uncomfortable under such speculation, but her features were calmer and her youthful blue eyes seemed now more interested as he implored further, asking her name. She thought tediously as to what answer she would give him. Of course her name would be suitable, but perhaps she did not want to be so open to strangers. Figuring they would only remain acquiantances after they got off the train, she answered lightly.
" Jacqueline. And your's?"

For a moment, he contemplated giving her a false name. But, considering that it was he who had asked to begin with, it would have been discourteous. He could not stand discourtesy.
"Chance. It's a pleasure meeting you."
He turned his gray eyes to pause on her own, feeling her gaze at him, calculating and curious. Chance could not deny that he, too, was curious, but he always was, and so it never bothered him. He looked away, back out the window until his breath fogged his vision and he had to wipe the moisture from the window with his sleeve. An obscure expression crossed his face as he smiled when he looked back at Jacquelin.

[ Of course, Luinnar.]
Jacquelin smiled back uncertainly, until her attention was momentarily diverted. The compartment opposite them, she now noticed, consisted of a lone girl, chin in hand. Her gaze did not linger for more than three seconds, she found it rude to watch people while in the company of them. Looking back at Chance, she studied him.
He seemed nice, but as did all who dug their way in. It could have been a trick, and at that thought she asked coyly, her voice slightly low, but seeming funny as if an innocent child were asking if they were being preyed upon; arms folding.
" You're not one of those boys come to poke fun, are you?"

He furrowed his brow, looking down. "One of those boys...poking fun?" He gazed back up at her with a curious tilt to his head, abashed but with a hesitant skepticism. "Someone was teasing you? Who?"

She blinked. " It doesn't matter..."
Jacquelin grew mute, large blue eyes now looking out the window. The snow had stopped falling, but the glittering whiteness from outside glowed 'pon her face, making her skin seem more porcelain than ever. It was her first time out of Ireland, and the truth was she had no idea when or where this train was stopping, nor did she know what she was going to do once it did.
Tearing her eyes from the window once more, they landed in her abandoned soup bowl, the contents having gone cold and still. She stirred the broth around with the silver spoon slowly, seeming bored and out of ideas. Finally, her attention was brought to Chance's book. She herself did not know how to read, but she decided it was worth an effort to talk.
" Is that a good book?" Her accent clouded her words, embarrassing her.

He glanced down at the book, reluctant to be drawn away from her strife. But he answered, "I suppose. Written by some do-good or another, supposedly built some form of flying machine...All quite a bit of rubbish, really. I don't know why I bother." He bit his lip, conscious of the way his words seemed to be haphazard and out of place.
"Where are you from, Jacqueline?" Her name seemed odd, coming from his own mouth, and he was absolutely certain he was mispronouncing it. It flowed so beautifully off her tongue, he just had to wonder where she came from.
Chance, suddenly very awkward, which was a completely new experience to him, uncertainly set the book on the table between them. Whether she cared to look it or not, it mattered not to him; it was mostly sketches of the new invention, and he knew it would never be in the air.
