A lone soldier stood at the brink of a cliff, looking off into the baren waste land. In every direction there were traces of war and evil and darkness. Other than the sun, which was clouded by smoke, there was no light of goodness to be seen. Yes, fires there were, but only fires that kept soldiers warm, and powered machines of war. There was sadness in the man's eyes as he gazed at the baren wasteland he used to call home.

"This place wasn't always like this, full of fighting and darkness. The land used to be full of light and music and happiness. It was not so long ago that peace surrounded all the lakes and mountains. Not so long ago that fighting was just a game played by children and animals of the wild. I was only thirteen when the war began. Sparing was a sport. Archery was a contest and a means for getting food. Fire did not burn down houses, crops, or people. It warmed cold fingers, and made hot stew. Stories and songs were plentifull and were told or sung all the time. Every full moon there was a feast honoring the peace of the land. The trees were old and deep green, and magic was good and strong.

"Then, a sorcerer, lusting for more power, opened a caos portal to the Other World, and let loose creatures both majestic and terrible. Demons, and creatures of unkown power rampaged the country side, burning homes, tearing men to pieces as they went. Every race, every person was hoping, praying, that somehow this evil could be defeated. The sorcerer that opened the portal? He was slain by a mighty dragon, the most terrible of the creatures that came through the portal. He was bigger than the giants that now roamed the countryside. Crop fields became battle fields, farmers became soldiers. Only songs of sorrow and battle were sung.

"That was thirty years ago. I now stand where the last stronghold of man once stood, now in ruins. A wave of demons were just conqured, but I am the only one left of my comrads. Now, all seems quiet. There are no signs of the evil anywhere. Not but the bellows of smoke from the horizon that come from the nostrils of the dragon who watches far off in the sorcerer's old tower. He gaurds the caos portal, making sure none come too close that try to close it, as more demons come through from the Other World.

"There is only one known way to destroy the dragon and close the caos portal. The Soal Crystals. There are only a handfull of these, and little it known about them because it is only through legend that we know about them. We only hope that one day, they will be found, and one day the finders of the Soal Crystals will defeat the dragon, close the portal and bring back piece to the world."

The soldier stood for awhile longer at the brink of the cliff as the sun fell behind the horizon, and the moon rose. But no longer was the moon white, but red, as if stained by blood.

"Along with the dragon, came the blood moon. A terrible sight to see, for it's light wounds the heart. Yet I will look upon it, for I have lived my purpose. To tell the tale of how Namorine came to darkness..." and with one last look at the Blood Moon, the soldier fell to the ground, dead from loss of blood, and the wound to his soal. The parchments telling the story that he told, that he had held in his hand, blew away in the wind. Hopefully it would reach the hands of someone who could find a Soal Crystal, and bring back the light.

Plot:
If you didn't get it from the long introduction(sorry it's so long...), then here it is in a paragraph. The land of Namorine used to be a beautiful place, until a sorcerer opened what is called a Caos Portal from the Other World. Out of it came a dragon which killed the sorcerer. The dragon guards the Caos Portal to make sure none will close it. Demons and evil mystical creatures of all kinds also came through the portal, killing and destroying everything in sight. For almost fifty years this goes on until the Soal Crystals(the only thing to kill the dragon and close the portal) and the chosen bearers of the crystals start appearing, and must go and defeat the dragon and close the Caos Portal. But first they must find their "other half" as I will explain.

About Soal Crystals:
There are a handfull of these. They look like diamonds missing half. There are an even number of them, so each Soal Crystal does have it's other half, but each is weilded by another person. Usually the holders of two halves of a whole are a boy and a girl. When the two pieces come together, it creates two weapons, one for each weilder. These are weapons of power. The crystals also enhance any abilities of it's weilder, and heightens scenses.

For this rpg, I'd want rpers to be really creative with their characters. Make up a new race or rank or class or guild or so on. There can be elves, dwarves, hobbits, vampires, anything. Accept dragons, on an account as there's only one and he's evil. You can also be on the evil side as some kind of demon. But demons are more like orc or goblin like creatures. Though there are also Minatours, Cerberouses, ankle biters(CoN LWW movie). Hippogryphs are on the demons side, while Griffins are on the good side.

Also, this is sort of a world where technology from Mideaval and Modern ages come together. There are guns, and Mondern transportation ways, and there are war machines, but that's about the extent of that. The rest of it is more Mideaval(sp? I know I'm spelling it wrong). There are bows, daggers, swords(these are used more than guns because the price of bullits is really expensive). Though, you can make up gadgets and stuff that you think would be handy, but not too overpowering and stuff.

In this rpg creativity is nessesity. Make up countries, villages, and stuff. I would make this for the imagination to go wild!

Oh, and magic is more like Elemental stuff. control of air, ice, water, plants, rocks, fire. That sort of stuff.

Even though that was a fair bit to read, I really like the idea behind this one. I'd definitely be interested in joining whenever it becomes an rp.

The only thing I'm iffy about is the technological aspects..considering the forms of magic seem decidedly fantasy.

Yeah... it's sort of like Fantasy mixed with Sci-fi kind of thing... though, it suddenly reminds me of Final Fantasy... I'm not sure exactly how, but it does, lol!

*snaps fingers* I just thought of the same thing. It is rather FF-esque..oh well. If you want it left in, that's fine. If not, that's fine too. It was just an observation.

Oh steampunk is a really interesting genre. Basically you have modern things like aeroplanes and tanks and sometimes computers but they're powered by Victorian-era methods like coal, clockwork, or steam.
