Alrighty - I'm going to do a Therald post next. Things are going to get messy between him and his long standing friend Calimir.

Ok, that had a few more threads to it than I anticipated.

I figured that tidings of Amarwen's recovery would not have reached the docks. The Shieldmaiden's aware of this are off raising hell in the Guild and Amarwen et al absconded.

And given that the Shieldmaidens were dispatched to the Osgiliath Guildhall by Amarwen, I figure those at the hall would have their hands very full with cranky Shieldmaidens bent on arresting someone for the "attack". Hence, they'd not be at the docks.

As for why Therald believes Calimir responsible? He knows Calimir has been sniffing around, arguing that Amarwen should be married off to one of Castimir's sons. He saw it at the tourney and the growing boldness of the Usurper is what decided Therald to finalise the betrothal negotiations.

As for Therald's relationship with Calimir, both hail from Pelargir and both studied together at the Guild in their time. They have been friends for many years. Calimir's life kept him in Pelargir whereas Therald met and married Amarwen's mother and settled in Edhellond. Over the years they have maintained their friendship, with Calimir a frequent guest at Edhellond - this is how Halvarin and Amarwen first met as small children. However, in recent years, their friendship has been strained by the rival factions for the throne.

Looking good, guys.

I've got something to get us from Rie's place to the palace if that helps.

Indeed. lol

Off to read the post now. Do you have any particular ideas about the response of the "powers that be" to this event once the characters all get back to the said palace?

I've got a few things I would like to work in towards my ultimate goals for Almara and Rie-Zunic, so long as it doesn't interrupt anything anyone has planned.

Good question, Jax, and one I've been grappling with myself.

Accounts would be requested of all, as you've written. I imagine the Captain of Guard will make his report to Eldacar.

Now, I intimated that Eldacar was aware of the ruse and so I dare say he will move to hose down any lingering suspicions the Captain may have.

So, what I was thinking is that those arrested (the Captain of the boat, his first officer and perhaps master-at-arms) will be found guilty and imprisoned/executed. Promotion recommended for Rie-Zunic, mayhaps, in recognition of his assistance. Possibly, a monetary reward for Almara and Halvarin too for their help in returning Amarwen to the palace safely.

Amarwen will say the attack proves the palace is unsafe in the hopes of this scuppering the very basis for the betrothal (increased security for Edhellond and herself). To counter this, the palace will move to speed up betrothal and increase security.

That would seem a rather logical train of events.

How would it effect things, however, if they were to all be discovered to have not brought her back right away? Or would it? Would it be seen as serious or cautious?

Just something to think about.

Generally, I think it would be seen as cautious - particularly given Amarwen's state - with some caveats.

The Shieldmaidens who encountered them will come under some heat for not reporting in sooner. They will say that they acted immediately on reports of a high level, treasonous plot but still the fact will remain that the docks remained sealed for hours longer than they needed to - at great expense for compensation etc. And, having turned the Guild house over, the Shieldmaidens came up empty handed.

I'm thinking there might be intensifying rivalry, if not conflict, between the Shieldmaidens and the Palace Guard. The Palace Guard will point to the above and the Shieldmaidens will assert that the Palace Guards are so useless they can't even keep the palace safe. That the Captain of the Guard is poking about probably won't help.

No matter how he pokes about, though, he won't be allowed to get far enough along to blow it up. Eldacar will make sure of that. Left with the facts as he knows them to be, then, the Captain will accept that it was caution (and perhaps mercy) that prompted Rie-Zunic to act as he did.

Now, the caveat: Farien is already suspicious. That Halvarin washed up at the palace gates, and given the time elapsed between the Shieldmaiden's report and Amarwen's return, she will have her suspicions confirmed. A battle is coming between Farien and Amarwen and both women have leverage.

I posted a bit I wrote a number of days ago. Thought I'd get it up before it gets too far behind. I'm working the Halvarin part and will hope to get it up shortly.

As requested, wrote an interim piece to place Calimir at the palace.

So what's the plan for the plot moving forward? I am thinking of causing some more trouble to shake Rie-Zunic's faith in the crown.

Likewise we have Almara's illegitimate relation to the royalty. Anyone want to throw that in the mix or shall I take it where I will?
