Hello there fellow RPers! :goofy:

It's that time of year again, where we hold our annual Return of the Rings event. And RPs are an important part of it. :)
So my question for you is: what kind of RPs are you interested in? Funny and random ones, or ones with serious, carefully thought out plot? :teehee:

Feel free to share your ideas! Your help is appreciated! :)

Don't know what RotR is? Want to be part of the organisation? Want to share your ideas for the event? Then click here to visit RotR's Planning&Discussion thread:click here

I'd say funny and random.. there are a lot of serious RPGs but silly so goofy usually works well! :teehee:

I think that it's nice to have a mixture of the two into one RP. It's nice to have a thought out plot, but to add some comedy and even romance to it.

If I had to choose, I'd say funny and random, but Amara has a bit of a point.

Thank you, Aranel. :)

I just really want to make it a goal of mine that I figure out the perfect RP plot that meets everyone's needs.

Even though that's nearly impossible.

Actually, though everyone says they like the random fun ones, I found that the serious, plot-driven, epic adventures last longer. Usually when you have a well built plot that's not too loose but loose enough for deviation, it's alright. Also, it seems rebellion rpgs go the furthest, but that's just from experience.

My favorite, whether light hearted or dark and suspensful, are always the ones with plenty of action and tons of character interaction. When characters seem to be off doing their own thing it makes it kind of hard to post.

But I'm just going by my experience here.

I absolutely agree with Eru here. I'm a fan of plot-driven RPGs, with enough room for character development. Nothing is so terrible as an RPG where characters just do not develop themselves. Personally, I'm also fan of RPs with longer posts (but quantity never goes over quality!) with description of scenes, thoughts and actions. Those are often the slower-paced RPs as it costs people more time to post, but the result is usually epic. It calls for commitment of the players just to stay devoted to the RP and its quality and usually as the RPG has started, it's hard to jump in, but those are my opinion the most succesful.

Btw Eru, speaking of epic adventures based on rebellion, I'm still in for Darkest Before Dawn and I will try to post something just get things started again. ;)

Thanks for sharing your opinions on this matter, guys! :D
RPGs were always a vital part of RotR and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

I've had this idea for RP about how the Elves prepare themselves to departure from Middle-earth, the roads they're taking to the Grey Heavens, how they encounter different characters on their journey - Hobbits, Dwarves, Men etc. But I'm afraid that the plot has it's flows and I can't think of a way to clear them. :erm:

I like the sound if that too, Elenthari, but I think what it needs is some kind of conflict? Don't know what though. :-(

Well, I think it would be cool if we started an RPG where everyone could be either a)characters from books, tv shows or movies or b)original characters. That would be really funny, especially if we went, like, everywhere. We could go to middle-earth, or Narnia, or somewhere else. :) And a loose plot would be nice, too.

^I have a secret adoration for Extreme Crossover RPs where a thousand fandoms collide. One set in Middle-Earth would be a riot, I'd definitely join that. :D

That's exactly what I mean! The plot doesn't sound complicated at all and I find it a bit mary-sue friendly. I wanted to involve ''some dark scheming'' from Sauron's side - like hordes of Orcs ambushing the travellers and closing the main roads to the Grey Heavens, but yeah, it's still kind of plain RPG. Something is missing.

Really interesting idea, Harthad! I like it! Do share more about it, please? :P

Maybe some evil mens from the North? I mean, not all evil things spontaneously blew up when the Ring was destroyed, it's canon that there were still orcs and trolls and various evil things roaming around. I guess if it was set late enough after the War of the Ring, it would be believable for these guys to try and start more problems. Our characters could discover them making plans or something. *le shrug* (This made more sense in my head. :P)

Post subject:  Re: Return of the Rings 2011: RPGs

Oh, well. On my site, we started a "Random RPG" where we have tons of people from everywhere. I was the 11th Doctor from Doctor Who, my friend was herself and the 8th Doctor, we had Captain Jack Harkness and Captain Jack Sparrow, a vampire, Bellatrix Lestrange, Voldemort and some band members I fangirl over. :D And we ended up in Hogwarts after teleporting from Araluen (Ranger's Apprentice).

So basically we all started in a room, where all of us enter different ways randomly. And then a random bad guy comes and wreaks havoc among everyone. And then it ended up that we had *me* popping in and saying that everyone was in a story that was being written on my website. . . .and I think we're going to have to find an object that can save the world from evil dudes who want to mess everything up. So, we could do that, with finding an object that can save the world and be funny and completely random about it. :) Different people put into abnormal situations. So, what do you guys think? Minus myself popping in, of course. ;)
