Boromir is one of the key characters in FotR. Especially his conversion at the end, where he's dying and he's with Aragorn.  One of the best moments. I also love the song where Aragorn and Legolas are singing the song after Boromir's death, I think it's the Lament of the Four Winds, except they don't say anything about the East Wind.

I'd have to say Aragorn as Strider the Ranger. Mysteriously cool at the Prancing Pony, and rough all around. Liked Aragorn as he morphed into King as well, but he was at his best as Strider.

Well, Sam is more or less the Bilbo of LoTR, when it came down to it, Frodo would never have reached Mount Doom without him. But - perhaps by now somewhat influenced by Sir Ian McKellen's brilliant portrayal of him - Gandalf is my overall favorite character.
