Yeah--every time I read the books, it's like the first time all over again. So many new and wonderful things. It's like Christmas morning all wrapped up in one book.

I think that Galadriel and Celeborn were Celebrian's parents. The Celebrian married Elrond and they had Arwen and twins Elladan and Elrohir. But Celebrian was shot by an orc arrow, and though she was healed by Elrond, she lost the will to live in Middle-Earth and sailed away to Valinor.

Recently, I've become quite obsessed with Elrond's relationship with Arwen and the rest of his family. We never see Celebrian, but I can only assume he loved her very much and was very torn up to see her "go before him". In a way, Elrond's life seems like much of a tragedy mixed with bits of happiness to me.
He spent much of his life fighting for a cause that seemed hopeless at times, and was left with a wife dead [in a sense], 2 sons at war, and a daughter who could have been just as good as dead since she gave away her immortality.
I can only hope that when Elrond passed over the sea he had some relief from grief in the prospect of seeing his wife again though he was leaving his only daughter behind.

I have to admit, I never really thought of him like that... Thanks for putting that in that light for me Larael!

Not a problem. That stemmed from lack of sleep and looking at Elrond/Arwen caps from the movies.

I seriously pity the elf now. Not to mention he didn't get Kingship of the Noldor.

Actually, I thought Rivendell was created pre- War of the Last Alliance. And King of Noldor doesn't mean that you're going to be at war the whole time. Sauron was destroyed by the time Elrond was eligible, remember.

Rivendell was created before the Númenoreans defeated Sauron and took him back to Númenor. It was Elrond's refuge when Sauron was sweeping across Eregion.

Eh, I don't recall, to be honest. It might be so, but I just don't remember if he wanted the kingship or not.

Well, I have alway been told by my dad(who has read the books and is an LotR fan), and friends, and a few people here on A-U that Elrond is the son of Galadriel and Celeborn. But this gives me doudtes. Unless Celeborn is Earendil, and Elwing is Galadriel... but if so, why different names? I've pondered this alot... and I can't figure this out... can someone help me? Who are Elrond's sire and dam(father and mother)? CELEBRÍAN is the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn not Elrond

This is exactly why Elrond interests me so much. He is kind of the tragic hero. He has bee through so much tragedy in his life, he has had happy times. And even when he sailed to the undying lands and met his wife at last that happiness must have been dimmed by the knowledge that his daughter stayed behind. Happiness mixed with grief.
