I like the Council of Elrond a lot, even though it goes on a bit.

I can't decide. The first time through, it's useful - clears a lot up and introduces you to the characters.....then it gets a bit tedious.

I really like this chapter. You can learn a lot of things in a few minutes. The whole plot starts to have a meaning now. And plus there is a moment when Gandalf says what is written in the One Ring where we can just take a glimpse of his powers. Remember that he does not ask sorry from Elrond for saying these words.

I really like it for all the history and stories in it. It seems sort of a "book within the book".
Although, Gandalf mentioned that Saruman was wearing a ring.
Can anyone explain this ring to me? Surely he did not make another Ring of Power?

Well Saruman is also caled Ring-maker although this titled was originally given to Sauron.
Saruman studied a lot of years the Ring and how they were made. Maybe he made one for himself hoping that it would have the same power as the other Rings of Power.

I totally agree. There is so much to be learned about many of the characters here by what they say and how they interact. And it is not without drama. I especially love it when Frodo takes out the ring. The atmosphere in the Council is electric at that point and Tolkien's description is really great!

Would you explain why boring? I mean you can read the real Ring story, you can also learn what happened to Gandalf at Isengard and many more things. How can this boring.

Me? Well, I said it was boring and interesting at the same time. Parts of it I liked better, parts of it I found a trifle dreary.

I really don't think boring is the correct word to use here. Sometime's you just might not be interested in that particular bit of history or part of the story. I know how that can be. Sometime's you just want to get the action, or you want to get to the part where your questions are answered. You might want to rush through it, just to get there. Or sometime's people might not be interested because they don't understand what is going on. I know I had that trouble the first time I read the chapter.

I thought the council of Elrond was very interesting and I wish they didn't cut so much out of it in the movie I guess it would have been way to long though if they put everything from the book into it though I just love all the info you learn in the council of Elrond, of course the first time I read it I thought it kinda dragged on but after reading it a second time I understood a lot more of what they were saying
