My cousin just brought home from his vacation in Croatia, upon my request, a copy of the Fellowship of the Rings in Croatian. It's called Gospodar Prstenova (lit. Lord of the Rings): Prstenova Druzhina (Fellowship of the Ring).
The cool thing I found out about it as I was flipping through the pages, was that even the poems were translated (only manipulated here and there in order to preserve rhyme), and that most place-names on the map were translated to Croatian, or had the Croatian translation beside the Elvish (I'm a nut for languages
).
And, of course, the text is accompanied by illustrations by Tolkien. Speaking of illustrations, the front cover is awesome. I especially lovee the font. I'll try and get pics of it here (if it's allowed, of course).
A different languaged LotR (by that I mean a language other than English) isn't new to good host of forum members, but to a guy like me is highly fascinating (and good to increase vocab in a language I need working on).
And so this topic isn't without purpose, I have a suggestion: I propose we all pool our pictures of our books by Tolkien (or even Tolkien-related) and post 'em on these forums. Maybe we can get a seperate page for it?
