*smiles* Yeah, they are excellent debaters aren't they!!
I couldn't agree more with what have been said already. Bilbo is old but he has also been a Ringbearer, both will inevitably have affected him.
Concerning the scene in the movie with Bilbo and Frodo, I think Frodo made an unplayed comment about the ring, being so relieved that it was all over. "I think I lost it" sounds like he would have just gone to the mall and lost his watch on the way.. but when we know what Frodo has been through and what was at stake if he failed at his quest, it puts things in quite another perspective. Frodo's line is a relieving detail that work well in the movie, but wouldn't fit in so well in the books. The scene also put a smile on my face, it was like taking a deep breath of fresh air after a long movie of death, despair and destruction!

I agree with every word you said Ea. Nicely put. And thanks for the compliment. You're an excellent debater yourself.
That line certainly seems to make light of all that Frodo has gone through and overcome. I agree with what you said about it making a different perspective. And it also brought a smile to my face. However, I also think that this is to show that Frodo knows that everything is over now He knows he is moving on from the chaos and the pain in Middle-earth. He knows he has come to journey's end and he is moving on to Valinor. i think this line shows Frodo's kind of finality in leaving Middle-earth, his resolution to put his quest and his cares behind him, and to keep his eyes towards the white shores.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm fearfully sleepy. And when I'm fearfully sleepy, my explanation's tend to come out sort or jumbled. So please excuse me.

Actually it's interesting that Frodo can be so light and carefree when talking about the Ring. He went through quite a lot (*cough* understatement!) and as have been pointed out already, being a Ringbearer will for ever has marked the person.
And you are right Legolas. It's nice that so many people post on the LotR boards.
... and I think it's spelled 'debaters'
[Pretty new banner you got there T.T]

It is very interesting, sort of ironic, and also very emotionally stirring that Frodo can make so light of everything that happened. The tone of his voice when he says it too..... it's very....... sorrowful almost. I can't even describe it. But I have a feeling you guys know what I mean. You've seen LoTR after all.
Legolas 101, fearfully sleepy means awfully or terribly or really or very very sleepy. Extremely tired. Etc,
By the way, thanks for the compliments on my new banner Ea.

But in the movie rotk at the end Frodo tells Bilbo he lost it. And bilbo just says "I wish I could hold it one last time." Its like bilbo didnt know about it. can anyone explain?
I think they did that just to make it easier. If people who haven't read the books saw the movie, they wouldn't really understand what Frodo and Bilbo were talking about.

Very good points that you two brought up!
I've always thought that Frodo's line in response to Bilbo's question was put there for an almost uplifting sort of moment. It's such a simple answer to a huge question. Bilbo seemed so content with the answer though. Do you think he really believed Frodo? Or, do you think the two really knew exactly what happened, but there really wasn't anything left to say? Maybe because they had come to a sort of understanding?

its kool that legolas was a messanger and becomes in a huge battle!
I thinks its also kool that Aragorn is just a Strider and then becomes a king!
dont mean to change the subject or anytjing I just love the book!

Thank you . You bring up good points, too. Maybe Frodo said to Bilbo what he did to avoid causing him any sense of panic or anxiety. Bilbo was pretty old, so he probably didn't want to cause him any emotional pain. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense, or just sounds weird .

How does the book RotK end? Do Frodo ever talk about the ring after the WotR? It's been a while since I read it, so I don't quite remember?

wotr? do you mean fotr? well the end of rotk Frodo goes to another land to have more adventures. Bilbo goes to the elf island to live forever. It is soooo sad.
Elwing_Star_Spray, Looking back at my post it does look confusing. I was just saying you were right to thank her and I should thank her too for pointing that out.
lol

WOTR means War of the Ring Legolas 101.
Also, Frodo never went off to have other adventures I'm certain. He sailed away to Valinor with Bilbo.
Larael, I enjoyed your post on this subject! I agree with everything you said there, and very well said it was.
I think that Bilbo was so aged by then that he probably did believe what Frodo told him about the Ring. He didn't know otherwise. At least, in the movies. However, I think there is also a possibility that he did just kind of accept Frodo's answer as there was a sort of understanding between them, not only because they were so close and loved each other so much, but because they were both Ringbearers.
I think that when the Ring was destroyed Bilbo must have felt the effects of it. Not only because of his aging (that happened when he only gave up the Ring). I think that he had born it for so long that there had to be a piece of himself within the Ring, and that when the Ring was destroyed, he could feel that piece of him being destroyed with it. I think the same would go for all the other Ringbearers.
Sorry if I've confused you all now.
