I am confused. I love fotr book. In the book Bilbo knows all about the ring and talks to frodo at elronds house all about the ring. But in the movie rotk at the end Frodo tells Bilbo he lost it. And bilbo just says "I wish I could hold it one last time." Its like bilbo didnt know about it. can anyone explain? |

That's a good point. I never really thought about that before. I guess it was just to make the point that the Ring never really lets go of you. Once you are a bearer, it stays with you forever. That's why Bilbo anf Frodo left Middle-earth. To escape the pain. I think they also wanted to show a nice tender moment between Frodo and his uncle. I alwasy think it's so sweet when Bilbo falls asleep and Frodo lays his head on top of Bilbo and sleeps too. Those are just my thoughts on the matter. |

You bump a thread to bring it back up to the top so people remember it's there. So it's not something you're supposed to do randomly.Just to warn you.... I don't think the mods would be too crazy about that. |

Glad you decided to bump this thread, because I think I've got a couple of things to add to the discussion. Of course Bilbo knew all about the Ring, and where Frodo was going. I'm also positive he knew it had been destroyed. But I also think that as Bilbo got older things became more muddled to him. It might also have been a long term affect of the Ring its self. After having that Ring for so long, I'm sure it did something to his mind to make him constantly wonder about it. |

Very good points Larael. To semi repeat what she said, we have to remember that the only thing keeping Bilbo in his youthful state and health was the Ring. Once he lost the Ring/it was destroyed, he started aging. And we all know that as people grow older, their minds tend to........detiorate. They can't remember things any more. So it's very probable that that was the cause for Bilbo's question. |

I guess I didn't mention that. Good point though. I do think though that the Ring had some kind of affect on him still. A lingering affect if you will. |

Aye, the Ring had a huge effect on him, even after it was destroyed. That's why he was leaving Middle-earth! To escape the pains of being a Bearer. And of course it lingered. To bear the Ring of power stays with you forever. |

You've just hit the nail on the head again, by bringing up points that I didn't even think of! ![]() |

Aww. Thanks Larael. ![]() I think we're all agreed upon the factc that this scene, though not in the book, definitely made sense and had some purpose in the film. Which is good. By the way (slightly off topic), Larael, are you strongly opposed to people giving you odd nicknames? Because I keep having this weird feeling that I should call you Larry. ![]() ![]() |
