I wish my parents had read LOTR to me when I was younger. I feel like years of my life were wasted, years I could have spent loving LOTR but I didn't even know about it. I think it's a good idea to start your kids on The Hobbit before LOTR. Not only will they understand it better and be more interested in it, but it will also help them to understand LOTR and why bilbo has the Ring when ever they finally read that. I think it's a really great idea to read Tolkien to them though. :)

I'm reading the books(just finished FotR) but I haven't seen the movies yet. I'm going to watch them after each book.

Good for you Estel! I'm gald you're discovering the wonderfulness that is LOTR. I think you have a pretty good sysytem worked out there too. Be sure to come back and post in some discussions when you've read and watched them. Good luck to you! I'm sure you'll love them.
