Legolas is hot. And no, that's not the reason I like him! In the books, he strikes me as a bit of an idiot. Maybe that's too strong, but not as smart as some of the other elves. I mean, how many elves would go charging off to see some creepy moving trees? But I think that's good, gives him some personality. Without him doing stuff like that, he would seem just like all the other perfect elves na dcould easily be Elrond or someone.
Wow, I sound like an elf hater. I LOVE elves, so I guess I must just be in a bad mood.
And by the way, where does it say that Legolas is a young elf? I'm not saying I disbelieve it, I always think of him as young too, but I just don't remember Tolkien ever saying that he's young for an elf.

Well i think that people just assume that he is young, saying that he is a prince....usually prince's are young not old.....i dunnno, that's how i think

Tolkien said that Elves looked neither young nor old. I think it's interesting, but it's kind of hard to picture... Well, at least for me it is...

Yeah, I guess we do think of Princes as young, even though they can be old...*coughprincecharlescough*
And I agree, it's hard to picture someone neither young nor old...an interesting idea, but it's getting more common, so I don't think alot of people think about it as much. Still a good thing to think about and try to picture.

I've always considered Legolas to have been at least a thousand years old--certainly not young.

And as for the "young or old" thing, I think it's possible to have a youthful face, but still look old.

In Fangorn Forest Legolas said I have seen many an oak grow from ancorn to ruinous age So I suppose he's not young

:surprise: *Sarcastically* Wow!!! There's a shocker!!! I like the detailed characteristics of an Elf. Not any Elf specifically, but I like how they are light-footed and don't need sleep, along with the super-senses...

Well... I have looked back on my previous post in this thread and I've found that my opinions have completely changed. I used to be a compete Legolas Nazgirl [fangirl] basically because of the movies. Now, I've found that my Orland craze has gone down and I am looking into the book aspects of Legolas' character.

His friendship with Gimli is an amazing one, and shows that we can overcome prejudice and precedants. Elves are also healers, scholars, and show human qualities at a more perfect caliber.

Really? i've kinda been the same...my friends jokingly made fun of me not being obsessed with orlando bloom. I don't know why but i'm just not that crazed about him ne more! but what you have said about Legolas is very true! good points!

My personal opinion of book Legolas is that he is a skilled warrior and loyal, trustworthy friend. My opinion of movie Legolas is basically the same, albiet that he's more fun to poke fun at. ;) (And *occasionally* drool over. Very occasionally. )
