Does anyone know which one is older, Elladan, or Elrohir? I have chosen Elrohir to be the oldest, but I might be wrong! Oh, and if you know anything else about them, the info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure who of the two is older (I, personally, always thought of Elladan as firstborn but that might be because most people put his name first...) but according to Wikipedia, Tolkien never actually says that they are twins (which I never noticed!), just that they were both born in TA 130. And it also says that Elladan means "Elf-Dúnadan" and Elrohir means "Elf-rider".

Oh, I didn't know what their names meant. Cool!
I've never read that they were twins, either...but everyone always says they are, so that's what I thought, and Tolkien didn't really give them seperate personalities, or speak of them as individuals. Also, everyone always assumes that Elladan is the oldest, so I thought it would be better if Elrohir was just to be different. But I don't know...
Do you have any idea if they are anywere else in lord of the rings beside at that very first part where Aragorn just mentions their names when he is talking to Bilbo and Frodo in the hall of fire? I thought they had SOME dialogue somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

I think it was Elrohir who spoke when they were at the Paths of the Dead, but it might have been Elladan. Either way, they're both there...

LOL nice... I figured just as much.
I think Elladan is older... but I have no reason to support that

I thought about it but I wanted someone else to come to that conclusion first.

I always had believed that Elladan was the older twin.

Technically, they don't have to be twins to be born in the same year. If the mother was pregnant eight of the months in the previous year and the first one was born in January, the other one can still be born in the same year without being a twin to the first one. The thought it quite weird, but it's possible.

^ Good point. I was just saying it's possible they're not twins. I do believe they are

Yes, its possible, and if true, Elrond & Celebrain sure were fiesty for elves, but then they were Noldor... yet it took only a mere 111 years before Arwen was born...
Seriously, Tolkien notes in his Letters (No 211, dated 1958); 'Elladan might be translated "Elf-Númenórean"'. This is doubtless a reference to his dual descent from the noble houses of Elves and Edain. The Encyclopedia of Arda says: "In the one hundred and thirtieth year of the Third Age, Celebrían the wife of Elrond bore twin sons. Dark-haired and grey-eyed, only those that knew them well could tell them apart. The first of the twins was named Elladan, 'Elf-Man' as a token of his ancestry; he was descended not only from the royal houses of the Eldar, but also from the Three Houses of the Edain." They also show Elladan as first-born on their family tree. This sounds close to what I read somewhere in Tolkien's writing. 'd look it up but don't have my books handy.

Thank you for the info, Hanasian. I've never read that. Of course their descriptions contradict what I wrote in my story just to make it more interesting, though I was pretty sure it wasn't completely true, but oh well! "The two did not look exactly alike. Elrohir had black eyes like his father, though with a hint of blue, but Elladan’s were a deep gray. Yet Elladan’s hair was black like Elrond’s and Elrohir’s was a lighter shade, appearing more brown as did his sister’s."

What in the world?! I guess I should not try to make quotes. I can't get it right. My post starts at "thank you".

Got it ~Miriel~. You did ok with the quote. You just need to write your response after the [/quote] code is all.
Fanfic stories are cool. I'll have to read yours sometime.
