i guess i do not see forty two pages as a short space.
but then i guess you are right because there is a lot of info in that chapter. it took me three days to read it the first time. i've never been able to read it in fewer than two though.

I personally enjoyed, because it not only revealed what happened in the story, but there were a great many flashbacks to prior history, that fires the imagination.

I liked it! Well you know, maybe there's no so much action and tension as in other parts of the book, but it helps the reader to relax and to be ready for heavy things :) Furthermore, it's a kinda way of joining all the races in Middle Earth, so we can see how they get on and so on, you know. I find it quite interesting :)

I found it to be a bit unnecessarily descriptive. It was kind of a long chapter for nothing but talking. However, I realize that they needed a long time to go over everything and weigh it into their decision. I mean, they're bascially deciding the fate of Middle Earth, so it's not something that can be done in five minutes if you see what I'm saying. Overall, slighty too long but definitely important and informative.

I guess you'd have to call it a necessary evil...I don't but you can.

I don't think it's an evil. The overall chapter is wonderful. Very interesting as it answers a lot fo questions you've been wondering about, like what happened to Gandalf, etc. Actually, I think I've changed my mind. I actually like the extra description. It really helps me to picture the scene and the characters more clearly in my mind.
Anything Tolkien writes is wonderful, and Tolkien wrote this chapter. Therefore, the chapter is wonderful.

I like it as I find it funny as in it there are so many people under threat from one source and instead of making rational discussion on how to defeat Sauron most of them sit there and all be really catty to each other. Well I found it funny....

Yes! There were some great facial expressions there. I love "One does not simply walk into Mortor...." I laughed hysterically the first time i read that.

That's a funny point Eonwe. They're all supposed to be deciding the fate of Midde Earth basically, but they all end up fighting with each other. It isn't until Frodo steps in and offers to take the Ring that they all stop. *sigh* Frodo. He's so brave. :)

Books or film versions Galadriel 2182, as there are differences.

I'm not sure about the films, but I have my copy of FOTR here, and I can tell you everyone mentioned in the book.

There were:
Elrond (:duh: "Council of Elrond)
Frodo
Bilbo
Gandalf
Aragorn
Glorfindel
Gimli
"several other counsellors of Elrond, of whom Erestor was the chief"
Galdor, who was a messenger from Cirdan at the Grey Havens
Legolas
Boromir

I hope that was helpful!

Something else: I never realized the Council of Elrond was so far back in the book! It's in book two of FOTR. I could have sworn it was in book one, somewhere in the middle. Who knew? :P

EDIT: Oh! And Sam was hiding in the corner! Dear Sam. :)

In the films there are more Men and Dwarves involved. They also dont introduce Glorfindel or erestor in the Films so we cant easily say what elves were there apart from Elrond and Legolas.
