Very true EonwesBestMate. There were definitely more Men present, Glorfindel (sonce he didn't exist in the movies) definitely wasn't there, and while Erestor could have been there, he is never mentioned by name. Not many people are mentioned by name in the movies except the Fellowship and Elrond. The books are more specific in that area.

Goin a bit off track here, I think that Glorfindel of Rivendell was the same glofindel of Gondolin who died fighting the Balrog, but in the Eldalie tradition, he was reborn and started all over again. Any thoughts? Please Post!

I like it. It reveals part of the history before the War of the Ring. This history is majestic and ancient, and without it, the rest of the war would look like some local conflict. It really is boring in some parts but I think it's a key chapter.

Er........... I think it would be best if you started a separate thread for that, and I think there may actually be one already if you look around for it. I don't think the mods would be too crazy about us starting a random topic in the middle of a completely different topic. So, my recommmendation is, start a new thread, or find and restart the old one. You'll probably see more people there, and get more people to answer your question if you do that. ;)

Teah the only chapter i could get up to in FOTR so far is Shadow of the Past because i haven't had an awful lot of spare time on my hands and to be honest i don't think i will until I've done all my work, read teh last chapter of animal farm and the rest of Huckleberry Finn.

I shall then do the former as I am kinda curious as to what the general concensus is on this topic. Thanx lol for that!

You're quite welcome! :) Perhaps you'll see me there as I've often wondered about this topic myself.

i love the council of elrond. i mean, i'm a big fan of tolkien's usual style, but the masses of description do mean that it takes forever for anything to happen, so the council of elrond's kind of a relief cuz they just rattle through everything and it all seems to happen really quickly. plus, i agree with ivreniel - i love that there are so many stories that are all so interesting in themselves.

The council was a really well written chapter. It is hard to write loads of speech coherently and that it is as gripping as that chapter.

I chose 'can't decide', because I can't! It takes skill to write that much speech and still make it understandable, and the background info is very useful and interesting. Now I think I should have voted 'like' :annoyed:

I think that was one of my favorite chapters in the whole book.
