Frodo, Frodo, Jolly Old Frodo. So Frodo is described by some Hobbits in FotR. Is that how you see him? Does he change *within FotR*? How so? What do you like about him, or dislike? Anything and everything Frodo is free discussion (non-movie please!) |

In FotR Frodo is still rather not oriented what is going on and put into wild adventure. He thinks that everything that happened to him should happen to somone else. But I like him more than in TTT or RotK. He seems less serious and more human-like that hero-like. And the Ring doesn't corrupt him yet so he seems more stable. I started disliking him in the end of TTT. |

Frodo is one of my favorite characters. I admire how he would give up his own life for the sake of Middle-Earth, and for him not wanting to go at first - how would you feel? Especially if you were a hobbit, who believed in peace and being altogether merry. I know that, as a human, I would definitely hesitate to take the ring. For a hobbit that's a whole new level of brave. I think that the ring corrupting him was to be expected, especially since he seemed to be one of the only characters who could withstand it. By the end when the ring fully took over, I guess that Tolkien was trying to say how if Frodo, the only character who wasn't turned malicious by it, couldn't bear to throw it in the fire, then nobody would be able to. It was dumb luck that the ring got destroyed, and though people are saying how Frodo didn't even throw the ring into the fire, I guess they weren't thinking about the whole journey he made from the shire into Mordor. If he threw the ring in, that would have been one (admittedly extremely important) but small deed. He carried that heavy burden for a good part of his life, and it drained him physically no matter how young he looked. By the time he reached Mordor I was surprised he was still alive, I know that I wouldn't be. |

I think the most courageous act Frodo did was to leave the Shire. Imagine he had never been outside his own country and he left even without the guidance and leadership of Gandalf. Even though his mind was set for adventures like the one Bilbo had with Thorin's company he was soon realising what kind of danger he was in when the Black Riders started chasing him. When Frodo took the Ring and the quest upon him in Rivendell it was merely a continuation of the journey he started when he left the Shire - even though the Ring might have worked its magic on him already. |

Frodo is such a heartbreaking character... He does start out very fun and fun-loving, and the age difference between him and his cousins doesn't seem to matter much at all. But as the story goes on it's painful how much spirit the Ring drains out of him. If there was a way to measure it, I think Frodo's sacrifice would be the biggest. He gave up his happiness, his merriness. The others were willing to give up their lives in that they were willing to die- Frodo gave up his life in that he kept on living. When I first read the Fellowship of the Ring and then the Two Towers, he did annoy me. But reading the Return of the King, I understood him much better, and understanding him hurt a lot more. |

i like frodo, he is my favourite character in FotR i like the way he is happy and is the glass half full kind of guy (which changes when the ring begins to corrupt him) i think it really shows how much the ring takes from him when you see him like this care-free in the shire. |

I admire what Frodo did. He resigned from good life in Shire and went for dangerous journey, not knowing what can happen next. He was afraid but went where Gandalf said him to go, because he believed it's right path. |

Frodo indeed was very brave, not even knowing what can happen, not knowing the REAL danger. He just thought is would be right if he fixed the mistake of VBilbo and go on the journey. I really bow before him in that. He changed much through the books but I like FotR Frodo most. |
