As to that, I think the reason why PJ gave that line to Frodo was because he's the Ringbearer and therefore the main character of FotR. . .

And I agree, I would not object to a day (or week! :-o ) long movie. The more the better! :D

I read that in he film, Beregond was going to be in it, but the role was so small that they thought the character to be named Beregond. That would've been cool if he was in it.

Hey Golden, another Merry fangirl right here too! I agree, I wish they would have given Merry the 'friend' line at Moria. They could have also given Sam a bigger role in the beginning because Merry and Pippin were going to have their own roles later on with the Ents and helping the different armies, I guess they figured Sam needed something to start out with. And I agree, it would be an easier transition for audiences to see a close relationship between Frodo and Sam right from the get go rather than see a big switch from a Frodo/Merry relationship. And I wouldn't object to a week long movie either, lol!

I am also fan of Merry  After Sam, I like him most.

As for the title thread, I also looked at the realationship between hobbits and its true, Sam is only a servant and Frodo doesn't care for him as much as for Merry and Pippin. Its later in the books, where their paths going another way, they are bond together.

I see Sam as friendly but not very relevant part of the story at the beginning. I started liking him in TTT :)

And Pippin! Dont forget him! Pippin fangirl here too! :)
Yeah, its when the Fellowship separates and Frodo and Sam go on their own path together you really see their relationship change into a true friendship, and Frodo really starts to lean on Sam for support. It was probably just easier on audiences to make them good friends from the beginning.

Poor Sam, Frodo never have seen him at the beginning, he was like fifth wheel in the group. But he showed many times that heis worth to bein this bunch.

Pippin is unchagable - he always was a fool of the group :teehee: Only Merry was very important for Frodo at the beginning. I think he was best friend of Frodo.

i think that pippin and sam in the beginning were best friends (on the book), Merry and Pippin then became closer ...

Yah, I agree. It's interesting how in the book, Frodo's more in touch with Merry and Pippin, whereas in the movie, it shows them as just being these random guys who barely know Frodo and just happen across Frodo and Sam, not conspirators in Frodo's departure.

Merry seems closest to Frodo from whole bunch and Sam ironically least close to him. How things can change through the three books. I honestly liked that Merry/Frodo closeness.

I liked the transition, because this whole journey kind of gave Samwise a chance to prove himself, and I think Frodo just hadn't seen what was in him before.

Agree. Sam became his closest friend because Frodo saw something in him, something important. It's not only growing together or hanging together.

And I think likewise Sam saw that in spite of offering to carry the ring and keeping his spirit up (to begin with), Frodo would soon need someone to lean on and he decided to become that person. That's real friendship if ever I saw it.
