I got a new favorite, but I can't remeber what's it called.

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair glowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning,
Or behold the flowing years of the Sea returing?

Lady Nienor Níniel, I believe it may be called 'Lament for Eorl the Young'? I agree, it one of the good ones.

Hantanyel, Hanasían! I've been never sure about the name of that poem, (or is it a song..?), so that helped a lot!

Nienor Niniel, but this poem is in TTT, nor FotR ;]

My favourite poem from FotR is The Tale of Beren and Lúthien. But the other ones I also like are Namárië, The Fall of Gil-galad, and the one that starts with "I sit beside the fire and think".

OOps... Lady Nirielle caught me on that too. Definitely time to re-read the books...

Poetry as such simply does not resonate with me. Songs somewhat more so, but the accompanying music is missing on the printed page. But one poem, specifically who recites it and in what circumstances, does bring a smile to my face: in the chapter "A Knife In The Dark", when Sam, to the utter surprise of the other three Hobbits and undoubtedly also Aragorn, recites "Gil-galad was an Elven-king" just before they reach Weathertop. Perhaps the first glimpse of the fact that there is a lot more to Sam Gamgee than anyone would have thought previously.
