I really don't like frodo in the book. He's really really snappy and mean. I mean in the beggining of the fellowship he yells at Pip dor asking to many questions! I mean, he has the right to know!! Does anyone else agree with me?
(keep in mind i've only just started this one for the first time...I LOVE TOM!)

Finally somebody that I agree with! I also dislike Frodo to an extent. Yes I give him credit for lasting so long with the one ring. HOWEVER, I dislike him. He is clumsy, not very smart. Lets faces it, without Sam, he would have died in the first Book!!! You know its true. Without Sam, He is worthless.!

Oh, I know! We all know Sam was the REAL hero! lol. And I reckon Sam could've done it. After all, he took the ring and gave it back with no hesitation......

Yes, in the book he's a bit snappy sometimes, but I don't dislike him. Sam is a lot nicer, though.

Yes, Sam's the hero. Tolkien himself said he was.
As for Frodo being snappy and mean... I never got that impression and have read the book several times. Perhaps it's because I can relate to him in ways.
You can't blame him for being snappy. He's been given a heavy burden and we all know a lot of questions can be annoying to someone, especially if they're under stress.
Might also take into consideration that the ring of power could also be at work on him, even at the very beginning of the story.

I thought Frodo was a bit mean in the book... he treated Sam as if he was an underling at first; getting him to fetch water, stuff like that, because he was his gardener. But at the end he treated Sam more as an equal... and as a friend, actually.

Yes. That is true, but he did work for him. It's a developing thing though.

I never liked Frodo. I especially didn't like him during the Scouring of the Shire, he was way too uptight about it all. I mean, come on, Merry and Pip didn't want hobbits hurt and more than he did, but they weren't being all upity about it. But no, I found Frodo completely irritating. Sam rocks my socks! He's the real hero. The unsung hero!

Yes, Frodo has been a bit rude in the LOTR trilogy, however there is (Italic)Some(Italic) good in his heart. At least I think so!!

Yes, he was a bit snappy in the book, but I still like him... I also agree that Sam was the real hero, perhaps not at the beginning of the story, but later of course...

Ehh... I dunno, Frodo can be whiny sometimes, but as for the snapping... I've always really connected to Frodo. I can understand why he snapped at the times he did. That might also be because I have a friend who can be just as annoying as Pippin can be.

I agree with you Anargil, completely. Reading this topic has made me wonder if I'm reading the same books. I don't recall Frodo being "snappy" at all... though everyone has their moments. It is probably because I related to him and understood why he "snapped" when he did.

I think that might have been because the Ring was affecting him. I also agree with your posts about Sam; he really helped Frodo all through the triliogy, and he was so loyal to Frodo.

Same with me. At the beginning he was really cool, until he got further on his journey to Mouint Doom. Then he was a bit rude. But dont we all get a little Whinny when we are pushed to our limits.

Hmmm... I didn't get the impression that he was very snappy and mean.
I guess maybe the Ring caused him to be a tad bit paranoid, and protective, maybe even a bit secretive about the whole journey. But I don't think Frodo's real personality is downright mean. :/

That's true, I also think it was because of the ring... and if he gets a bit snappy with people like Pippin I can understand it very well, because my best friend is just like Pippin and I tend to be a bit snappy to her sometimes
